Her Majesty The Queen pays an official visit to Brazil in October together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard to focus on Danish-Brazilian cooperation on biodiversity, health and the fight against violence against women.

The days of 2-5 October, The Queen travels to Manaus and Brasilia in Brazil on a trip that will help to emphasise the desire for additional strengthened cooperation and deepening of the Danish-Brazilian relationship. Areas such as sustainability, biodiversity and climate are central, common priorities for Brazil and Denmark.

Among other things, The Queen will visit the Amazon rain forest and its river systems as well as the hardy Brazilian savannah, the Cerrado. Previously, Denmark has committed to providing support for the Amazon Fund, which fights against illegal deforestation of the rain forest and promotes sustainable development. In connection with the visit to Brazil’s botanical garden, which is located in the Cerrado, The Queen meets with the United Nations Environmental Programme, UNEP. The Queen, who is the patron of UNEP, has focused on biodiversity and conservation of nature for a number of years.

The Queen will also meet with female leaders, representatives from ministries and the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, to discuss equality and the fight against gender-based violence in Brazil and globally. Through her commitment to the rights of girls and women, including as patron of UNFPA, The Queen’s visit can contribute to creating a platform for Danish-Brazilian experience exchanges.

Wednesday, 2 October
The first two days of the visit take place in Manaus.

Boat tour on the Amazon River
The Queen takes part in a boat tour on the Amazon River, where The Queen will, among other things, gain insight into the Amazon region’s challenges and possible solutions in relation to combatting environment-related crime.

Visit in the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve and at Museu da Amazônia - MUSA
The Queen visits Museu da Amazônia (MUSA), located in a 100-hectare area of the Adolpho Ducke Forest Reserve, which is an original dryland forest area of the Amazon Forest.

Official reception by the Governor of Amazonas and attendance at performance at Teatro Amazonas
The Queen is received by the Governor of the State of Amazonas, Wilson Lima, at Teatro Amazonas, which is a theatre and opera house in the centre of Manaus.

Thursday 3 October
Visit at the National Institute for Amazonian Research (INPA)
The Queen visits the National Institute for Amazonian Research, which through the years has carried out scientific research on the physical environment and conditions of life in the Amazon region.

Visit at Centre for Bioeconomy in the Amazon Forest (CBA)
The Queen visits the Centre for Bioeconomy in the Amazon Forest (CBA), which was established in Manaus in 2002 and has the objective of promoting sustainable development in the Amazon region.

Luncheon with focus on food with products that indigenous people in the Amazon Forest eat in their everyday lives
The Queen takes part in a luncheon at a local restaurant that prepares food with sustainable use of produce harvested and grown by indigenous people. Moreover, the restaurant mainly employs indigenous people.

Friday 4 October
The programme will take place in Brasília.

Participation in official meeting
The Queen, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, participates in an official meeting in Brazil’s capital.

Visit at public school
The Queen and Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard visit a public school in Brasília, where The Queen will be introduced to Brazil’s school meal programme, among other things.

Visit at the Brazilian agricultural research institute Embrapa Cerrados
The Queen, together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard, visits Embrapa Cerrados, which is the Brazilian agricultural research institute in the savannah area, the Cerrado, and has, among other things, focus on challenges and opportunities in relation to agriculture’s impact on biodiversity and environment in Brazil.

Working dinner with UNFPA focused on equality
In her role as patron of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), The Queen participates together with Minister for Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard in a working dinner at the Danish Embassy in Brasília.

Yes, her 20 years as a royal has serve her well. But even in her first years as a royal, she did not shy away from carrying a solo agenda. Makes sense to cover more and more as a team and solo.

I have always admired how comfortable Queen Mary is on her visits, solo or otherwise. She just jumps right in and seems at ease with whoever she is meeting with.

I’m sure her Private Secretary and Lady in Waiting Mrs Henriette Ellermann-Kingombe is accompanying her, as it is an official working trip…. Probably also one of the press secretaries at Amalienborg to take care of the media, and someone from the foreign ministry to represent the government.

Maybe she has a stylist with her too to assist with hair, makeup and clothes, unless she wants to do it all herself….

Queen Mary is the patron of the UN Environment Program (UNEP) and paid a visit to the botanical garden partially in that capacity. She looks fantatsic!

I have always admired how comfortable Queen Mary is on her visits, solo or otherwise. She just jumps right in and seems at ease with whoever she is meeting with.

Firstly I think it's down to hard work. I.e. she is always well prepared. I also think she feels more comfortable that way.
She's a natural.
And last but by no means least, she has had a lot of practice going solo since she became a part of the DRF. So she is by now very experienced and she has over the years grown and been allowed to grow into her role.

So as with so many who are very good at their jobs, she makes it look effortlessly, even though it really isn't. Queen Mary didn't reach the level she is at today for free.
