A great surprise today!

The Palace has shared a number of wonderful photos of Queen Magrethe's private birthday celebration yesterday evening - such great joyful snapshots! 🎂

Her Majesty Queen Margrethe celebrated her 85th birthday with a banquet in the Dome Hall at Fredensborg Palace. The table was covered with newly sprouted branches and decorated with Easter eggs, which Her Majesty herself has decorated over the years.During the dinner, Queen Margrethe was surprised by a choral performance by the Sankt Annæ Girls' Choir. For dessert, the birthday cake was brought in with lit candles, as is appropriate on a birthday, and the candles were blown out in accordance with tradition 🎂💨After this, the Pantomime Theatre performed excerpts from the ballet Clumsy Hans, for which the Queen herself has been the costume designer.📸 The Royal House

Seems like an amazing event fitting for a queen! Do we have any confirmation regarding the attendance of Queen Mary and her grandchildren (Nikolai, Felix, Christian, Isabella, Josephine, and Vincent)?

No, (so far) nothing further has been released about that, just the photos and text posted above.

Strange birthday without Prince Joachim , Princess Marie , Henrik and Athena. This is not a Family when half are missing. Nikolae and Felix were lost !

It seems like they were not present for the dinner… It was only about 50 guests… Apart from Frederik, Benedikte, Anne-Marie and court officials, it seems to only have been Margrethe’s friends there

Looks like a nice dinner! And it seemed like it was for Margrethe's crowd, including her two sisters. No older grandkids. Frederik as King and son attended. I bet Mary enjoyed the night with her sisters, who traveled from Australia for Isabella's celebration. It's not everyday they are in town. I hope they enjoy the next few days or however long they are here.

Joachim's kids might be in school or not. It varies by state and school. My nephews don't have days off this week. Either way, Joachim would have work.

Strange why? Are you implying they weren't invited?

While, at a stretch, I suppose one can argue that Joachim was indispensable, Marie's role at the embassy certainly is not significant enough that she couldn't actively choose to return home alone with the kids for two major family celebrations (and tend to some of her patronages – that the DRF mindlessly claimed wouldn't be affected by the couple's dispatch abroad – while in the country).

At the end of the day, Joachim and especially Marie, it seems, almost pointedly decide to miss out on family events. (..)

Joachim's kids school is out this week and next.

Queen Mary didn't attend. Strange

Getting back to the subject of this thread...which is Daisy's birthday

Lovely article about her dinner outfit and jewelry and the connection they have to Prince Henrik.

So wonderful to see the Birthday Girl Queen Margrethe looking so well and in great spirits. I loved seeing all the lovely photos of everything that has been happening with the Danish Royal Family in the past week. It’s been a real lift after all the political stuff that has occurred over the last few months.

I don't find it strange at all. She attended the family lunch with the kids, Nikolai and Felix. The dinner seemed like a small group and mostly Margrethe's friends. Margrethe had her two sisters with her and I'm sure she approved of Mary spending time with her own sisters. Who traveled from far off Australia.

Daisy looks remarkably well for being 85 ! She said in an interview around her 80:th birthday that she did not belive that she would reach her mothers age (who became 90) but i’m not that sure….

She is and have always been a woman full of surprises 😊

Does anyone know who the man accompanying her is? I've seen speculation that he's her partner.

I don’t know who he is. But he is not the first one that the media speculates would be her partner so i wouldn’t read too much into that until something is confirmed…
