Steny Hoyer is a member of the House of Representatives. So while he is not a United States Senator he is a part of the House leadership where he holds the position of Minority Whip. A great Marylander (as am I not great just a Marylander). He used to represent my district until I moved.

Anway, I had no idea he was Danish American?! How fantastic is that!

So the Democrats are currently in minority in the House of Representatives, as he is Minority Whip? - Which I guess serve the same function as chief whip in the British parties in Parliament?

According to wikipedia, I am going to say yes and no.

I actually did not know there were whips in the U.S. Congress. I thought it was just a British thing!
