Queen Camilla Jewels 2: February 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Sorry no, that tiara did not work for her. First the tiara blends to much in her hair and tends to disappear, like the Girls and not even her hair can successfully hide that ugly frame part in the centre below the central element.
I appreciate the visible central pin, very akin to what comes with an Iphone, which helps achieve the "high point" in the tiara, is not the most attractive design element of the tiara. But it is what it is. If you can ignore that, IMO, the tiara works well for what it is. And I think it works better with Camilla than it did for either Sophie or QE2.

I actually think it worked best on QE2 but then there are few pics and certainly no HQ's or closer pics from the one Event she wore it

Fair point!

I didn't expect to see the aquamarine tiara on Camilla abut it was nice to see it again.

It’s interest she chose not to wear the Brazilian aquamarines. I actually prefer the shape/cut of the stones in her necklace than the ones QEII wore frequently. Perhaps she chose this particular combination as working better together than bringing in the Brazilian tiara.
I do like the way she seems to enjoy experimenting.

When Sophie wore the lotus flower tiara, I was wondering whether Catherine would now also share in the five aquamarine tiara. But to see it now on Camilla was a total surprise for me. Here is another sign, that the British royals are moving away from long term tiara loans towards sharing some of the tiaras. If this continues, it will be very exciting to watch future tiara events.

This aquamarine tiara looks quite good on Camilla, but I don't think that it is the best tiara for her. Those tiara that go further around the head tend to look better on her.

I think the Queen is still recovering from a bad chest infection, and probably wanted to wear something light and easy to wear. I suspect the Brazilian aquamarine necklace will come out to play, but when Queen Camilla is feeling up to it.

It is very early in the reign of KC3, and we don't quite fully understand how the jewellery lending policy has evolved. All we do know is that it is all change in this regard, and that a new set of regular tiaras for use are starting to emerge.

If we see Sophie in the Lotus Flower tiara again, we can assume that it will be her regular diamond / diamond & pearl tiara. She already has the convertible aquamarine necklace / tiara, and she has her wedding tiara to round up the collection.

We have already seen Catherine wear the Strathmore Rose. Funnily, I do not expect to see her in that tiara many times. I hope we will soon see her in an upgraded all diamond offering, possibly the Queen Mary Fringe. She may also start to use the sapphire bandeau and the Greville emerald Kokoshnik to add some colour to her tiara rotation.

I think that one belongs to her as it was reported to be a gift from Edward. Her Wedding tiara was also a loan from QE2.

I am not getting into ownership of the tiaras, just access.

I have always understood that her wedding tiara was a gift from QE11 and the Duke of Edinburgh , constructed from diamond element's in the vault's . Certainly the fact that Sophie has worn it in it's altered form solidified that idea in my mind .

At the time of the Wedding in 1999 it was announced to be a loan. And given the apparent history of the elements i doubt that it was gifted

I'm curious as to why she is not also wearing the Royal Family Order of Elizabeth II.
I was curious as well - I do wonder are we going forward only going to see the Order of the current monarch worn by senior royals

The aquamarine tiara was a really surprise - I dislike it and wish it was broken upon and brooches created or something. Camilla certainly has gone into the vaults and explored.

I hope not as I always enjoyed the continuity associated with the RFO!

I agree, it was lovely to see the older royal ladies wear all of the orders they had received through different reigns. Why change that?

Lets see. The Queen is recovering from an illness, and may have chosen just to go "light" for last night. She did wear both RFOs for the Japanese state banquet a few months ago.

I agree that it needs to be more deeply set into her hair.
I find this tiara a strange choice as, given how rarely tiaras are worn by British royals, it doesn’t strike me as being sufficiently significant for the Queen to wear & she certainly has quite a range to choose from.
What I do think is interesting is that there appears to be a different approach emerging where jewels aren’t worn by just one senior royal during their lifetime- but perhaps this isn’t the case with the Princess Royal. With the previous monarch, such pooling seemed to be mainly confined to a brooch or necklace related to a country or organisation.
I think many of the tiaras Anne wears are her own property by virtue of being gifted to her specifically so they wouldn't be shared out in the same way as the more general family connection. It would be a bit like Camilla sharing her own family's Shand tiara to Catherine or Sophie - not really going to happen (though not never ever going to happen). The tiaras in question are those that are part of the RF's collection so which could be worn by any member of the RF.

It is definitely seems to be a different approach that under HLMs reign - possibly not a bad thing.

I hope Queen Camilla has chosen to open up the vault for more sharing like they do in Sweden and the Netherlands. We also saw that Kate wore the diamond necklace for the coronation and after that Camilla wore it. But it will take a long time, considering how few tiara events the British attend, to see a new pattern. All the other queens, for example the late Queen Elizabeth, Margrethe, Silvia and Sonja f.ex. have a "uniform" approch to jewellery and we could and can always think what they will wear and pair different sets of jewellery. I hope that Camilla will bring out the Cartier resille necklace to pair with the large kokoshnik and the love trophy collar. She suits chokers and large necklaces.

I originally asked the question as to why she was wearing one because I assumed ladies always wore all their orders. I've read up and looked at old photos and I see that it is not always the case. Even the Queen Mother eventually stopped wearing her first order(just one example).

Yes the Queen Mother had the RFO of George V (her father in law), George VI (her husband) and Elizabeth II (her daughter) but was most often pictured wearing on the more recent two - those of her husband and daughter. I guess at a certain point it just gets unmanageable or uncomfortable wearing all of them.

Yes she stopped wearing the Royal Family Order of George V upon QEII’s accession… It was probably a question of comfort, or wanting to use brooches… As the riband of the Order of the Garter is worn left shoulder to right hip, it means that the RFO(s) are mostly pinned to the riband, making very little empty space left for brooches..

Princess Margaret often wore 3 but she only had the Royal Victorian Order that is worn right shoulder to left hip, so it did not took away space for any brooches..

I think there are simply too many Jewels in the british Vaults. For example they have about 5 or 6 diamond necklaces in the style of the King Fahd one. And i think about 5 or even more emeralds demi Parures. nd one and on.

I agree, the BRF jewel collection is very vast. QE2 had her favourites, and tended to make her choices from that pool only, with very rare excursions outside that (eg, rare use of the Kent Amethyst demi-parure or the one time use of the Oriental Circlet). Margarethe, Silvia and Sonja have had fewer choices.

Queen Camilla has only recently gotten access to the wider jewellery collection, and is feeling her way through it. Favourites will no doubt emerge, as they did when she was Duchess of Cornwall.

I know there are alot of jewellery. What I meant is that the queens that has been in the role for a longer time, we see a pattern for what they will wear and what they have access to. Now in Britain it will take years to see that pattern. Camilla can mix and match endless. People forget that the late queen was queen for 70 years, and for the first 30-40 there were endless of tiara events to see jewellery worn in different ways. She had her favourites too.

But then her collection grow by the many gifts she received on foreign Tours and another time in 2002 when she inherited her mothers collection.
She certainly had no a so vast collection for the first 30 years of her reign then Camilla has now.

Queen Camilla wore her two family Orders for the State Visit from Japan.

Wonderful to see the Russian sapphire cluster brooch!
