Prinsjesdag 2023 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Were there louder than usual protestors at this years Prinsjesdag?

This group of protesting crazies - who actually think that we are ruled by a WEF conspiracy of people who drink the blood of children- should be admitted to a mental hospital and are a danger out on the streets.

I believe it is the first time the king is reading his speech with reading glasses?

Yes it was.

As for the crazies, they should be dealt with before, not just a danger,a huge danger!!As is Dutch NOS with their nagging on polls nobody heard or knows off, offending, irritating and it should be banned from the streets and tellies..

I read that the grade of the king went slightly up vs the one in april. But the articles in the newspapers only pushed it in the narrative of downwards sliding polls.

According to lip readers Pss Alexia said 'Happythat it is over' when she entered the carriage after the speech.

The original plan was that the Inner Court would be ready by the end of 2026. This is already delayed to the end of 2028. It would not be surprising it will be daleyed even further.

Really so long , What are they doing, Taking out every stone and turn them around

These kind of projects in the Netherlands usually tend to take twice as long as planned and triple the budget. Not sure why as the last renovation wasn't all that long ago. They made a mistake in closing the Inner Court down completely and should have listened to the original advice which was to stay there while the Inner Court was renovated part by part.

Prinsjesdag will be changed, says the NOS. Plans of the first and second chambers of parlament, various ministeries, the city of the Hague and the royal house have been leaked to the national broadcaster.

Though King's day has been changed several times between the different reigns, the opening of parlament always stayed exactly the same for 3 generations.

Since COVID started the day has become less and less festive. It is now used by various protestors and is a magnet for crazy people: from COVID deniers to conspiracy lunatics to aggressive and vandalous farmers. This ánd the additional security measures has resulted to the day being less festive than previously. Last year the RF was even booed by people protesting against the government.

The authorities want to change this. The elements as we know them will stay: carriage ride, speech from the throne and the balcony scene. But more elements will be included. The King will meet with the public/citizens. There will be a concert on Het Plein, members of parlament will not be going to the venue in blinded busses but they will meet and have breakfast with visittors, after whcih they will walk to the venue. Other proposals:

-Allow the public to be closer to the carriage procession
- Opening Noordeinde and Kneuterdijk palace and the royal stables for several days.
- performances of the military marching bands
- debates between politicians and citizens
- performances in the city with foodtrucks, theatre, concerts.

The change will happen gradually. It will take years before it will be concluded in its new form. We will not notice much changes in 2024.

An interesting move. It seems the goal is to make it more like a party - hoping to attract larger crowds. I wonder whether they intend to make this into a yearly second(ary) king’s day party.

The king sadly seems to be a target for a lot of these unhinged protesters !

Because he is the easiest target, by travelling in a splendid carriage and appearing on the Palace balcony.

There have been a few incidents and last month too at the Holocaust museum in Amsterdam, eggs were thrown.

He should take the eggs and throw them back on the protesters

Other than the protestors the safety rules make it difficult for spectators to be close to the whole procession. Parking and even bike storage is far away, and people have to pay to use the stands along the route to see the whole thing.

I don´t think we need another Orange-day. One King´s day is enough. Prinsjesdag should be about parlament and less about the RF. But I appreciate that they are willing to see what can be done to make it less a magnet for crazy people and more a thing other members of the public like to go to, as they did in the past. I am not sure they will succeed.

The Prinsjesdag 2024 will be held on September 17.

The Prinsjesdag 2024 will be held on September 17.
Yes, because that happens to be the third Tuesday of September. It is always done at the exact same day: Third Tuesday of September.

I hope the proposed changes on Prinsjesdag won't strip away too much of the pomp associated with the Ceremony in attempts to modernise it!

In the mean time the King said during the summer photo session that the leaks about Prinsjesdag were nonsense and that not much will change.

On September 14 Catharina Amalia visited the three mounted Honorary Escorts in preparation of tomorrow's Prinsjesdag:

What a nice surprise to see her there. She looks great.

Why is the leader of the VVD wearing a fabric-crown as headpiece?????

It seems to be a headband?

The King has been looking great recently, much more healthy and his hair is a bit shorter. His diction of the speech has much improved too.

The location still misses the beauty of the Inner Court. But it seems our parlament will be under renovation for all eternity. Khadija Arib -former chairwoman of parlament- was absolutely right that it should have been done in phases while the inner court was still in use, instead of how it is done now: locked up completely for a decade.

Nice to see Pss Beatrix there. I imagine she was at Kneuterdijk Palace, as the cortege does not pass the Cabinet of the King any more, now the location has changed.

It seems that with the new government the protests have stopped. No boo's and no protests along the route or in front of the palace. One sole and tiny upside-down flag was noted by the camera.

Alexia seemed sad...

Video of today's (royal) activities:

The princesses weren't too impressed by the new policies regarding the migration/asylum seekers - based on their body language (see at 6 min)

Possible she might not be supportive of the government ((thank God she the spare and not the heir))

This also wasn’t very appropriate for such event
