Princess Zein seems to be incredibly low-key, although I did find this article about her.

AMMAN - Nine months after His Majesty King Hussein's visit to Al Hussein Welfare Institution and the revelation of the substandard situation in which the orphans were living, the renovations of Al Hashemiyeh Palace were completed and it was officially opened Wednesday by King Hussein in a celebration that included all the children in the orphanage.

Their Majesties King Hussein and Queen Noor attended the ceremony, as well as members of the Royal family and representatives of charitable associations and donors from the private sector.

The King inspected the renovations of the new orphanage, which is now named Dar Al Bir, met the children and their nannies, and attended a ceremony in which HRH Princess Zein, the patron of the orphanage, delivered a speech.

She said the opening ceremony was another event marking the King's birthday and pledged to continue her work and ensure the best opportunities for all the children.

She expressed gratitude to King Hussein for his humane gesture and said "I hope that God will give me the strength to be the best father, mother, and friend to these children as you were to me.'' Nadia Zaza, the director of the orphanage, and two senior doctors who had supervised treatment of the children in the past months also thanked the King.

Eliana Swies, one of the doctors, described the King's gesture as "a fairy tale of a king who gives his home to the needy children of the land, only this one is for real."

Several of the children performed dances and sang for the audience. At the end of the ceremony, the happy cries and applause of the children could be heard in response to a magnificent and colourful fireworks display.

The King, upon inspecting the previous facilities in February, was saddened by the state of orphaned children in the country and the lack of care they suffered.

After the King's visit, the institution was put under the supervision of the Royal court and witnessed drastic changes, according to Rania Khasawneh, the director of the institute.

In a letter addressed to former prime minister Abdul Karim Kabariti, the King ordered that Al Hashemiyeh Palace be "turned into a home for the innocent children, who should be able to move there as soon as possible."

Dar Al Bir, which is home for 210 children, has several new faculties to make the children's lives easier and safer, including a fully-equipped medical clinic operated by private specialists and a private ambulance, Ms. Zaza explained.

Future programmes for the children will include a sector for gifted children to expand their talents, passports and identification for all the children, and the chance to obtain college degrees, Ms. Zaza said.

The institution is operated by 65 staff members, including nannies, inspectors, cooks, nutritionists, and administrators, she added.

The new institution now provides the children with a real home and a sense of family that was previously absent, Ms Khasawneh said.

Gulf Peace Campers Heading for KuwaitAn advance party of the London-based Gulf Peace Team is now in Iraq. Theinternational team of seven, which set off from Heathrow on 16 November, intends to establish a camp as near as possible to the line dividing Iraqiforces from those of the USA, Saudi Arabia, and other nations in the conflictarea. If conditions are appropriate for a more permanent peace camp in the area -and non-interference by the Iraqi authorities is the critical factor indetermining the project's viability - one member of the team will return toLondon and mobilise the next wave of volunteers. "We intend to explain to theIraqi authorities that the rest of the team will join us later on, only if weare allowed to go to the border area and to operate with maximumindependence", Jean Dreze of the advance party said prior to leaving. The advance group includes Pat Arrowsmith, Jean Dreze, Bela Bhatia, Sa'adAllah Atrib, Bassam Fattal, Richard Crump, and John Steel. They arrived inBaghdad late Sunday night, 18 November, and were accommodated with other peacedelegations at "International Peace House", a holiday camp on an island to thesouth of the city. Pat Arrowsmith, speaking to Peace News on 19 November, said the group hoped to meet Iraqi officials the following day. "Indicationsare that they will receive our plan favourably."The group spent two days in Jordan en route for Iraq. Bassam Fattal metPrincess Zein, daughter of King Hussein, who pledged backing to theexpedition. While the group went shopping for supplies, the US televisionnetwork NBC accompanied them; journalists reportedly expressed surprize thatthe British media had largely ignored the team's project.Several other international peace groups are in Baghdad or plan to travelthere in coming weeks, but the British group is at present the only oneintending to use Kuwait as a base. A second Italian delegation has arrived atInternational Peace House; the first team of volunteers returned from Iraq inlate October, having secured the release of 112 Italian hostages. A Greekgroup, including three retired generals, is in the Iraqi capital makingarrangements for a cruise ship to sail into the Gulf to mark the New Year. The first delegation from US Fellowship of Reconciliation returned fromBaghdad in late October. A second delegation is expected to arrive around 25November; like the first group, its members will stay about one week. Theywill bring medicines, and will contact US detainees as well as Iraqiofficials, citizens, and the Red Crescent. Members of the first groupnegotiated the release of a group of sick and elderly detainees.Four Spanish members of the Association of Artists and Intellectuals forCulture and Peace in the Mediterranean went to Baghdad during October, meetingmusicians, writers, and the press as well as government officials. The groupwill send another team soon.A German group will travel to Baghdad later in November. The volunteers willstay in Baghdad, and intend to hold a fast as well as meeting local groups anddelivering medical supplies. A second team would travel to Iraq in earlyDecember.Gulf Peace Team, 7 Cazenove Rd, London N16 6PA (tel +44 81/081 442 4664; fax+44 81/081 442 4694)liberated from Peace News, No 2336 December 1990.When you read this an Australian team will have flown to Iraq via Amman,Jordan where they will have met peace camp organizers to arrange the nextsteps to Baghdad and the peace camp, which will be several hundred kilometresaway in a stony desert. Conditions will be harsh with no running water, lownight-time temperatures, scorpions and snakes, but current intentions are forthe camp to exist for as long as necessary to prevent the war planned for the15th of January.A communication network has been organized using phones, fax and the Pegasusnetwork to assemble this team and provide continuing support. For the future, money is needed, not a lot but several thousands, as areexperienced people with a commitment to nonviolence, either as campers orsupporters. The effort to improve living conditions for Jordan's orphans was led personally by His Majesty the late King Hussein. In March 1997, after a surprise visit to a home for orphans, King Hussein was moved by the children's living conditions. He immediately announced his donation of Hashmiya Palace to be a new home for the orphans he had just visited. King Hussein assigned his daughter, Princess Zein, the responsibility of running the new orphanage at Hashmiya. The palace was renamed "Dar al-Bir" (Home of Piety). Jordanians from all walks of life are donating their time and money to help this and other homes for the orphans.

I remember this very well,a few months later he went with QN and a few other princes/princesses (I can't remember who),to check on the children and see how their situation turned to. They had a ceremony for receiving the King, thay sang for the him in a very cute way, everyone was touched,KH cried and then hugged Princess Zain and they both started crying,I think this was a couple of months before he left to the US for treatment :( Princess Zain was soo emotional.
I can never forget that scene,I still remember the song the children sang for him :( Allah yerhamu.

I agree.:( ......

:( it's sad,I'm not a daughter or even a relative of the late king (i've never even met him),but I still cry when i see a pic of him or when he's mentioned in front of me,I even dream about him a lot :(
I wonder how his children feel about it now,I can be sure a couple of them have gotten over him so well though....:(

do u think Hamzah and Hashim got over him? I can sense Hamzah hasn't yet,may be because he looks a lot like his father (may god Grant Hamzah a very long life),so there's no way to run and hide,he remembers him even when he looks int he mirror.

lil monkey, we share the same sentiment toward KH's children..I think Hamzah has moved on towards his grief to his late father..but,who knows, might be he still feel sad remembering his father..especially that he was stripped as crown prince :( .It was his father's own wish that hamzah be made as crown prince..and I have just read from another thread that,Prince Hussein, the eldest son of King Abdullah has been called HRH the crown prince in their news pic caption..Back to the topic, any new news about princess Zein?

I dont know if this has been brought up before, according to the official Hashemite family tree, Princess Zein has an adopted child named Tahani al-Shahwan. Does anyone know more about him/her and the circumstances surrounding the adoption?

Did you know that Princess Zein AlHussein's husband is the brother of Princess Alia AlHussein's husband?

Yes PrincesPrincess, Zein's husband is Majdi Saleh who is the brother of Mohammed Saleh Princess Alia's second husband and the father of her two youngest children, whom she married after divorcing her first husband.

Oh so Princess Aisha has a fraternal twin sister, I didn't know. She definitely is a low-key royal figure, as I've never seen her in other photos of the Royal family.

Anyone know anything about her children? Apparently a son named Jafaar, a daughter named Juamana as well as an adopted daughter? Can anyone confirm or post any pics? :)

That is correct. Princess Zein has three children:
Twins Jaafar and Joumana, born on November 9, 1990.
An adopted daughter named Tahani Al Shawan.

just to corret the information above, jaafar and jumana are not twins, in fact jumana is born in july 1993

I saw a magazine ( Layalina) in which Princess Zein's daughter Joumana was. she made a fashion show ( they said she 's a designer) but really she is gorgeous and beauty. I'll post the pics once scanned.
