Especially at first she seems consistently out of breath, so I guess she's nervous. I do like how she shared some (not very personal) memories of spending time in Asturias with her maternal family. It must be great for Asturias to now have a princess carrying their name with 'Asturian blood' as she herself puts it.
She doesn't rush. She still has some problems with pausing with punctuation, specially when there is a flowing sentence following afterwards.

I have several Latin American friends that found difficult when first arrived in Spain how fast we speak. Castilian is fast spoken language and making a speech in that setting, it's not easy. Even someone like Meryl Streep, with her experience, made a couple of nervous mistakes last year...and her speech was in English.

I love these trips highlighting the best little towns in Asturias. It's my favorite part of Spain.

Was there a larger than normal group of protesters there on Friday night.
They seemed to be louder this year!

On the contrary, in recent years protests have actually attracted fewer people and they are quite irrelevant. It is already a tradition for far-left organisations to meet to take advantage of that day and have media coverage... but they protest against everything, against the Monarchy, against job insecurity, for Palestine... all at once. Asturias is a mining and industrial region where the left and the unions have traditionally had a lot of influence, and where protests have always been very strong, and the square next to the theatre is linked to historical protests... so they are just another part of the local culture and tradition.

Something totally anecdotal compared to the thousands of people who come to applaud the Royal Family and the prizewinners or who participate in the Foundation's activities which for two weeks offers free conferences, concerts, exhibitions and activities, the tickets for which sell out so quickly that many people are eager to attend the events.

As it has grown over the years, the Foundation has planned more and more activities around the Awards that involve all citizens. They plan activities with schools, universities, professionals, reading clubs... years ago the Republican left accused them of being elitist and based their protests on that, but they can no longer use this argument. Serrat, this year's Culture Prize winner, a Catalan left-wing singer, highlighted precisely this, that this award is not like the others because it really is an award united with the people and he has been seen very moved at all the events..

If say this is the last year we see the King attend - would maybe we see Letizia attend in a similar way to Queen Sofia and sit in the balcony and watch proceedings?

Always a great weekend each year, there is always so much enthusiasm and people on the street, as is usually the case in Spain of course. Lovely to see Princess Leonor so caring and helpful with her grandmother. Sofia must be very proud, as will be the King and Queen. A nice applause for Queen Sofia too at the beginning, with Paloma Roscolano in the audience.

The princess is a great speaker for somebody so young. In her mother she must have had the best teacher of course.

Nice to see that Mario Draghi was awarded. I imagine that may have been Serena WIlliams daughter in the audience and perhaps her mother? During the speech to Serena WIlliams she reflected on Serena's words about her sister [Venus] and said how indeed sisters 'are our great travelling companions', obviously reflecting to her own.
