Letizia's baby will be born 2 weeks early? Wasn't Mary's baby born 2 weeks premature, also?

i thought if the baby is born within like the last month (last 3-4 weeks )of pregnancy...it's not considered premature....?

I thing that will born 3 weeks before. According to what i read in El Mundo, she's 8 months and 1 week pregnant

just in case you want to know the information by el mundo, here's what we don't know already.

appart from what we know, at 22.30 a red carpet was installed at the entrance. the personel of the clinic also gave the press sandwiches and water.

most of the doctors in ruber clinic can't go near the place where letizia will give birth. they all had to sign a confidential pact.

It is so eerie how Mary's and Letizia's royal lives seem to "mimic" each rother...engaged, married, pregnancy announcements and births of their first children close to each other! I've read that its raining in Madrid now...it also rained during Felipe's and Letizia's wedding...Showers of Blessings!!!!..About the news reporting on this story..we have to remember that Spain is still closely related to the Latin American countries, and there are large latin American populations in North America and many Spanish media outlets, so I'm not surprised that this news is being widely reported! Does anyone know what official celebrations will take place to commemorate the birth? In Denmark, we saw the firing of two sets of canons, bon fires being lit and an official flag waving day being declared! Does anything like this happen in Spain?

Oh, I am so excited about the birth of the future King or Queen of Spain!

Alexandria, Which newschannel was it on?? CBC newsworld or the CTV one?
It's defintely surprising.. The only articles I remember here in Canada were about Catharina-amalia but nothing about Mary's baby..This is exciting..

It was on the ticket of CBC Newsworld then I saw it on CP24. I was very surprised, too. The CBC is known for being a monarchist news station, but that's usually reserved for the British royals. CP24 is sort of all over the place, but I've never seen royal coverage before. Even when Prince Joachim visited Harbourfront for SuperDanish two years ago or when Princess Margriet visited earlier this year to mark VE Day, there was barely more than 10 seconds devoted to either of those visits if at all.

I wonder what makes Princess Letizia and this impending birth such a draw? I know why I'm interested of course ;), but surprising that the producers of CBC and CP24 would think that it interesting news for the greater world at large. I hope that this means that they'll cover the baby's arrival more then.

In the past, the cannons bon fires were fired, but i belive that no longer happens.

Oh man! It would've been nice if they can re-start these traditions in honor of the birth of the first child of the heir of the throne!

Thanks for letting me know, Alexandria.. I know I will make sure to keep an eye on CBC..I share your sentiments, I am a bit surprised myself thatit is covered here in Canada considering that there is a higher percentage of Latin Americans in the US..but, hey I m not complaining.:)
BTW are you in Eastern Canada?'

i couldn't say about what american channel will cover the birth but in the case of princess mary nothing was said here and that pretty much is the same for all the other royal babies born. outside of prince charles & princess diana children we dont here about any other royals.

For whom was asking for the red carpet, I have just read that it seems that it is for the tent that the Royal Household is mounting for the press in the parking of the clinic.

I think the U.S. channels will only cover it when the baby is born...just like when Mary and Frederik's son was born.

Beate, I'm in Toronto -- or more accurately, Mississauga.

I'm not sure what the Canadian appeal is either in regards to these news stations carrying news of the birth. As far as I can remember no one from the Spanish royal family has visited Canada in the last couple of years, and neither Felipe and Letizia have since their engagement or their wedding to have developed a fan following of sorts.

I do think that aside from/without a personal connection (between Canada and Spain or the Prince and Princess of Asturias), there is a broader social and political connection that wasn't shared as much with the other royal countries who have experienced births lately (eg. Denmark and Belgium). Whether the Prince and Princess of Asturias have ever stepped foot on Canadian soil or not, they represent Spain and as a country and as a culture, I think that means a lot to Canadians.

Just my two cents to pass the time until the big moment! :p

The USA Spanish channel Univision has it as one of their headline stories for the nightly news.

I can´t wait.:p Que nazca ya!,Que nazca ya!:D

lucys, the Univision news is on right now. Will they talk about it now, or at night?

I agree...I definitely think the reason that we here more (still only a tiny little bit) here in the U.S. about this birth and the wedding last year is because of the large Hispanic population in the U.S. I have heard how popular the Spanish Royal Family is among latinos, so I guess that's why.

I was thinking... this baby is going to be born on the eve of All Saints Day... Very appropriate, considering that the heir will be named "de Todos los Santos"... ;)

It's now turning 5 hours, since they arrived at the clinic...

To change the succession law in Spain a chenge in the constitution is needed and that is a long and complex process. The goverment needs to be dissolved, the changs must go on a referedum to be approved by the people and only then the change is made. I think that the spanish goverment will made this at the time of the new general elections in Spain. In this way a dissolutions isn´t needed.
