Princess Margaret’s Ruby Earrings

Cartier Ruby Flower Brooch

Sadly it was sold off after the death of the Princess!

This week, I am in the Sultanate of Pahang to celebrate the Wedding of Prince Muhammad of Pahang, Tengku Arif Bendahara, the son of the Sultan of Pahang and Tengku Ampuan (Queen) Azizah, and have a very exciting discovery to share with you!

Queen Azizah of Pahang and I have come upon the conclusion that her Diamond Bandeau Tiara is Queen Mary's lost Diamond Lozenge Bandeau last worn by Princess Margaret. Her Majesty graciously invited me to the Palace to view the Tiara (and five others) and we both compared it and could find no differences.

Queen Azizah bought this Diamond Bandeau Tiara on the advice of Princess Chulabhorn of Thailand in New York. Like Queen Mary’s Amethyst Tiara, the Diamond Lozenge Bandeau must have been discreetly sold off by Princess Margaret by the 1980s. In our excitement, the Tiara did drop and get slightly damaged but will soon be repaired.

This is a major discovery. Congratulations!

How interesting! It is entirely possible that the tiara was disposed off, but probably by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. It was she who has sold the amethyst tiara.

It is not a significant loss to the BRF as the tiara was largely used by Queen Mary in her last years, often as a base to attach stones to, as demonstrated in the picture above.

I wonder when it was sold off?
Its a very pretty tiara on its own and not too keen on the new addition of those diamonds snow flakes!

I think the diamond snow flakes and the lozenge brooch are removable additions.

Thankfully as they don't really work that well.
Yes, they were just attached with wire. HM sent me the picture with them attached first, but a few minutes later, they had been removed. She has used the same brooches on other tiaras, but this was less successful IMHO.

Fantastic!

Fantastic the HM let you view the tiara with her, and thank you both for solving the mystery of where the tiara went.

What a fascinating story to the apparent story of the sale of this ring which has only come to light with its subsequent recent auction.
And its not a ring I was familiar with and it sold well above its guide price!

:previous: In what year did Princess Margaret acquire the Emerald and Sapphire Ring?
