Princess Madeleine Jewels 2: Jun 2023 -

The Cut Steel tiara is my least favourite Swedish tiara and looks like something from an exotic carnival.
The Cut Steel tiara has a typical early 19th century design. I agree it looks exotic (actually a bit flamboyant) by modern standards, but the alternative would be this historical piece (probably one of the oldest royal tiaras still worn in Europe) being relegated to a museum exhibition.

I actually like it somewhat when CP Victoria wears the Cut Steel, but it didn't look good on Madeleine at all at the Nobel dinner.

I wonder why Madeleine chose this particular tiara when she could have worn her own Modern Fringe or the Amethyst tiara.

I like the Cut Steel Tiara when it is worn by Victoria.. It fits her headshape and her facial features like a glove…

But i did not like it at all on Madeleine… Kudos to her for experimenting with a new tiara, but it was not a success

Lovely. I can't tell from the pictures, but do we think it is a sapphire (or emerald?) surrounded by diamonds?
The colour looks like aquamarine or blue topaz to me.

I wonder if Madeleine had some of Lilian's jewels that she kept in Sweden rather than take to America with her.

I suspect Madeleine stored most of her formal jewellery in Sweden, only taking the more casual and wearable pieces to the US.

I’ve been told it was in Princess Lilian’s collection.

Has anyone found a photo of princess Lilian wearing the brooch? I don't remember having seen it on Lilian. When I read Lilian's will, I looked a lot of photos of Lilian and her jewellery and didn't see this brooch.

No photos has been found yet. At least not to my knowledge.

The only significant jewel Princess Madeleine inherited from Princess Lilian was as far as i am aware of an aquamarine-ring…

It could ofcourse have been altered to a brooch since then, but it does not look to be the same aquamarine to me…

From what we know Lilian's will said that besides the things with a specified recipient everything else was to be equally divided between Victoria, Carl Philip and Madeleine. Given that the inventory featured many more pieces of jewellery than specifically mentioned in the will it's likely they were all part of the lot that was shared by the trio.

Yes she had a lot of both precious stones and costume jewellery that was not specified in the testament that must have gone somewhere, so it is not impossible that Madeleine’s pieces from monday indeed comes from there..

Given that the quite substantial brooch wasn't mentioned in the will another possibility is that it was a gift that Madeleine received while Lilian was still alive.

It is a lovely brooch - I am surprised we have not seen it until now and she Is only bringing it out of her vault
