Princess Madeleine, Chris O'Neill & Family, General News Part 4,February 2021

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
It would seem then that although Chris O'Neill stated he was learning Swedish in at least one interview around the time of his marriage, either he has either not followed through or his attempts to learn have been unsuccessful.
I doubt he ever made any serious effort to learn Swedish to the level of understanding complex speeches when he lived outside of Sweden. He probably acquired only basic conversation skills to interact with his children or his wife in Swedish. I imagine it was mostly informal learning, rather than following any type of formal instruction.

Now that Chris lives and works (at least part time) in Sweden, I assume his Swedish skills will improve much faster and he will be motivated (maybe) to target a higher level of language competency beyond basic conversation skills only.

In any case, even though Swedish may not be one of the toughest languages for English speakers to learn (in fact, quite the opposite), learning any foreign language as an adult is normally tough, so we shouldn't expect that Chris will start speaking and writing Swedish as a Swedish university graduate in a short period of time. It normally takes many years of formal learning and immersion in the target language to reach that level.

After reading, just listening to a speech in which there is no expectation for you to interact is one of the easier practice grounds when learning a new language.

So, if he is going to attend more activities in Sweden it would definitely be beneficial if he doesn't need someone to translate for him in such situations.

Madeleine and Chris attended their friend Cedric Notz's 50th birthday celebration.
The party took place at the cozy neighborhood pub Bistro Marie in Stockholm.
Andrea Brodin was the hostess, earlier in the evening, she posted on social media revealing that the celebration is for husband Cedric Notz, who turns 50 in early October.

Article about Madeleine and family's future after the move to Sweden in Finnish family magazine Seura.
Some things from the article:
- Madeleine's absence has been discussed regularly in Sweden. People now expect a more prominent role from the princess, but what does that mean in practice?
- If you live for free in an apartment, it is necessary to do something.
- As of 2019, Madeleine and Carl Philip's children have been titled princes and princesses without the title "Royal Highness". They have their own duchies, and they are included in the order of succession, but they do not have representational duties as adults.
With the decision, the children have the opportunity to live more freely outside the court, but there are also places of danger in it. Even without responsibilities, children are subject to certain expectations, for example regarding behavior. It's a double-edged sword. Then, when they start living more freely, it's easy to point out that you are princes and princesses.
- If the children settle abroad as adults, the Swedish duchies in particular would remain as empty titles. Madeleine's children can become international figures. They can choose whether to use their titles or not.

I wish the best for the family as they make their new home
I am sure Madeleine is happy to have a "princess life" again. Living as a middle-class housewife in Florida might get boring after a while for someone who was raised as she was.

The children are still young, so they will probably adapt to Sweden quickly.

My biggest concern is Chris as living in Stockholm was probably not his first choice.

Madeleine announced in February that she became the patron of Millesgården Museum.
Millesgården was created in the early 20th century by world-renowned Swedish sculptor Carl Milles as a home, with studios for himself and his wife, artist Olga Milles. In 1936, the couple donated their work of art to the Swedish people and converted Millesgården into a foundation.

Today Madeleine posted photos of a visit to Millesgården:

Looks lovely. Do we know where it is? I thought they lived in the city in the Royal Mews so I guess its either a park or they have escaped somewhere?

They don’t write where it is but it looks like somewhere at Royal Djurgården recreational areas to me, wich it not far from the royal mews

Author and historian Herman Lindqvist (who also taught Madeleine and Victoria history) describes Madeleine's role after her move to Sweden as "very modest".
- Many thought she would come home full speed. There is great expectation among the public and an interest in watching her and seeing her "in action". But she hasn't done much, almost nothing. Even though she has been here, she hasn't done more than when she was in America. There is room for her.
Lindqvist thinks Madeleine will do more royal work in the future, she and Chris can no longer blame the everyday puzzle of children, school and work. It's not an ordinary family, they get help with everything. She will eventually have to get started with more representation and presence at royal events. It's not enough that she works in her mother's foundation. She should work for Sweden too.
Since Chris isn't part of the royal family, the court doesn't talk about his affairs. Lindqvist thinks Chris is longing to go away or do something else. He made it clear that he is not interested in the royal business and doesn't want to participate in it. If he shows up at a Nobel party, we will see him.

I don't get this desperate need some reporters, magazines and opinion spouters have for Madeleine to do royal work. She doesn't "have" to do anything and there's no wish for her to do any more work among the general public.
That said I do believe that if she doesn't do more royal work then her family shouldn't be able to live rent-free at the Royal Mews.
Herman Lindqvist is severely out of touch. He doesn't even live in Sweden anymore, hasn't done so for yonks.
He's been an irrelevant opinions-for-cash-machine for years and is no stranger to cash in on the fact that he had history talks with the Crown Princess all those years ago.

I think it's because she is a pretty and glamorous Princess - that's why magazines and opinion people want her to do more royal work. Because it would then create content for them...
It makes little sense for Madeleine to have a full-time royal role, when Carl Philip doesn't even have one.

Yes, I agree. But in the past we saw lots of engagements of Carl Philip and Sofia, now that the birth of their fourth child is imminent, they have scaled down.
Not having a lot of knowledge about the work load of Swedish royals I don't know how necessary it is for Victoria's siblings to get engaged.

The swedish press has had something against Madeleine ever since she met Chris and moved to USA…. Something changed in their attitude towards her then…. Until then they had treated her as the young swedish blonde partying bimbo they could do whatever they wanted with… Madeleine herself sometimes certainly contributed to that perception too…

Then she broke off the engagement with the brat Jonas Bergström (wich was not good for the press because he loved to talk to them and tip them off) and then she met an american husband who absolutely loathes media (an american who does not come from and refuses to adjust himself to the swedish jante-mentality will never have an easy time in sweden) and ever since then the swedish gossip media has not treated her well… Because they don’t like the fact that she has matured, married an american, and lived her life in USA…. She is simply not their ”money-machine” anymore…. So it will be really interesting to see how things will go from now on….

As for Herman Lindqvist… Like JR said above, he is never late to say yes thanks to new interviews in swedish gossip magazines (in exchange for not so little money) where he can have his annual angry outbursts on the royal family and anything that is swedish, and pretend that he no longer understands the swedish mentality as he lives in France - and then still can expect to be invited to the royal palace to talk history with tourists every summer….. He is just an irrelevant bitter old man nowdays… Wich i think is sad because he is a very intelligent man and once upon a time i really liked him… But he is so angry and bitter nowdays that i have lost all interest in him…

This is unfortunate about the negative publicity Princess Madeleine receives especially from the self-serving old Herman Lindqvist. I applaud her for wanting to raise her adorable children at home in Sweden among family. One can't help sometimes who you fall in love with and obviously Chris and Madeleine are very much married (and in love). I applaud the couple as well for compromising to make it all work for their lovely family.

Princess Madeleine is very much involved in Queen Sylvia's "World Childhood Foundation" having spent time in NYC with Queen Sylvia celebrating the "Childhood Prize 2024 in early Dec 2024. I follow Princess Madeleine on Instagram and she looks like a very busy wife, mother, and working royal.👸👍

Madeleine and Chris had lunch at restaurant Crème today. Then they went to Gabucci, where Chris bought something after having tried various jackets. After that they walked home to the Royal Stables.

I'm pretty sure articles like this are the reason Chris would rather live elsewhere...
There were many more of these articles when they lived in London. The main difference is that in Sweden they're mainly photographed by private individuals who spot them on the street while in London they were often photographed by professional photographers.

If Chris can make it a few more years, the press will be all about Estelle, and may finally lose interest in him and Madeleine?

Svensk Damtidning tells that Madeleine met up with some of her closest friends at the exclusive Villa Dagmar on Nybrogatan in Stockholm to celebrate her friend Ellen Dinkelspiel's 45th birthday (which was yesterday). At the dinner were also Leonie Persson, Louise "Lussan" Thott, Lina Tham von Heidenstam, Lovisa de Geer, Sofi Fahrman Engelbert, Veronica Arph, Natalie Werner and Katarina von Horn.

Andrea Brodin was also there, she has a short clip at her Instagram stories. Miriam Bryant was performing for them.

That is just trash! Why all the picking on Chris? Give him his privacy. He seems to be a good husband and father. What else do they want from the man?

It is important for the children and certainly for the parents to be near family for the support. One hopes that the immersion in the local language helps Chris learn a bit better.

The Swedish press has always been hostile to Chris for reasons that I am not really clear about.😟
I agree, but if Chris and Madeleine got their own house in Stockholm and stopped living in the state-funded apartment at the Royal Mews, there would be less ammunition to feed articles like that.

I am pretty sure the couple understands the issue and must be taking steps to fix this situation.

In my opinion they'd be much wiser to get on with their lives and ignore these stupid click-bait articles by online tabloids that nobody actually reads.
