Princess Märtha Louise & Durek Verrett News & Current Events Part 2: 2024 -

It is striking that as soon as Durek is accused of irregularities, he immediately threatens to sue. He could first listen to the accusation calmly and give an explanation, or justify himself, or, if the accusation is true, clarify the matter without going to the press. But no, he immediately turns it into a media drama and once again portrays himself as the victim. Seems typical of him.

But the King gave his consent to the marriage . . . .
I don't think it would have helped if King Harald had not allowed the marriage to Durek. He certainly knew his daughter best and, as she grew up, he realized that she was special and had a very strong will. So he probably wanted peace in the family and gave his consent. As I see Märtha, she would have married Durek even against her father's will, perhaps moved to the US, and the family would have had little contact with her or her children. It's also very difficult to forbid a 50-year-old daughter who says she has found “the man of her life” getting married.

durek in IG published 'I lost my kidney transplant several years ago. I now undergo dialysis three times a week just to stay alive. ' - what does he mean exactly by that he 'lost' the transplant?

According to an article in "Hello" from August 2024 he got a new kidney in 2012, the donor being his sister Angelina. As far as I know even donor kidneys don't last forever. A dear friend of mine had two donor kidneys during her life. When the second one didn't work anymore she died. It is a very serious condition.

It would have been perfectly possible to personally give his blessing without giving official approval. Many monarchs in various countries did so before him when the only ‘crime’ their future spouse committed was being a commoner (or for other reasons).

Exactly. And it should be underlined that if King Harald V had simply given his personal blessing as a father, and refrained from actively invoking Article 36 of the Constitution, the only difference it would have made is that Princess Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett would have lost their right to automatically become Norway’s head of state and first spouse under certain circumstances.

Both of the couple have claimed they have no desire to be head of state/first spouse. Assuming they were being truthful, I see no reason why they could not have publicly explained that they did not want Article 36 invoked for their marriage because they personally had no wish to be queen and prince consort. That would surely have dissipated any misguided outrage on their behalf.

But the King gave his consent to the marriage . . . .

Yes, indeed. And, according to the well-informed @ROYAL NORWAY, the (majority of) the general public felt strongly that the King should invoke Article 36 for the couple’s benefit, to the point of backlash if he did not. That means they (the majority) “voted” for Princess Märtha Louise to remain potentially their head of state – not as a “lesser of two evils” choice (the “alternative” (next in line) would have been Maud Angelica Behn, of whom the public seems to be less critical), but as a personal vote of confidence. So, despite their protestations, the majority of the public have received what they “voted” for.

The "feud" between Durek and podcast duo Fredrik Græsvik and Zahid Ali escalates. In a recent episode of the podcast “Fredrik and Zahid Solve Nothing”, the hosts discuss hours of audio recordings that Durek has shared. In these new recordings, Durek acknowledges having served six months in juvenile detention. He strongly opposes the "thug" label and criticizes Norwegian culture for being characterized by xenophobia and herd mentality.
The audio recordings also reveal that Durek is also dissatisfied with to the Norwegian press and Norwegians.
– When you talk about me like that, I understand that you are speaking from a Norwegian perspective. When I first came to Norway, I was shocked by how Norwegian culture shapes Norwegians' skepticism towards spirituality, and makes it scary to go against the herd mentality.
Durek believes that such culture and attitudes can create skepticism towards new, foreign ideas, which in the worst case can lead to a rise in xenophobia.

On Thursday last week, TV 2 and several media outlets reported that Durek Verrett is threatening legal action against Fredrik Græsvik and Zahid Ali, following their mention of him in the podcast "Fredrik and Zahid solve nothing."
– You are slandering an American citizen – which is illegal. (...) You are spreading lies that I am a fraud and a charlatan, Princess Märtha Louise's husband said in an audio message, which was later played on the podcast.

Durek reacts strongly to the fact that his private messages to Fredrik Græsvik were shared with the public.
– I am not asking for special treatment. I am asking for justice. For truth, writes Durek in an email to Nettavisen on yesterday afternoon.
The statement comes after two of Durek's private voice messages were played in the latest podcast of Fredrik Græsvik and Zahid Ali.
Durek about legal options against Græsvik and Ali:
– We are considering all legal options with our team. Defamation, misrepresentation and public harassment are serious matters, and we treat them accordingly. This is not about revenge. It is about protection. Protection of the truth, of our family, and of the right to live without constant violation.

Norwegians have once again been riled up by Durek, and vice versa. Now experts are flabbergasted by his latest statements. Sociologist and reputation expert Trond Blindheim's first reaction after hearing Durek's sensational showdown with Norway and Norwegians:
– I think it's great humor when a self-proclaimed shaman, pharaoh and reptilian from Hollywood tells us how we Norwegians really feel up here in the rock pile. Clearly we are a flock of sheep without dreams and with low self-esteem. I don't think it's possible to lower his reputation any further ...

I wonder why he claims that slandering "an American citizen" is illegal.

I am not familiar with defamation laws in Norway, but I assume that slandering any person may be illegal depending on the nature and circumstances of the slander. Durek seems to think, however, that US citizens in particular have an absolute degree of protection against slanders in Norway or, maybe anywhere else in the world. Does that come from a (commonly held) belief among US citizens that US law applies extraterritorially to all countries? Or a belief that US citizens perhaps have a special status in international law or domestic Norwegian law?

Most donor kidneys only last 10 to 15 years before they start to fail. He means that he is now again in complete kidney failure because the transplated kidney is not working anymore.

If Durek wants to sue in the US for slander that has occurred in Norway it seems he will need to consult an attorney specializing in international law. I can't imagine he needs more bills piling up to pay for expensive attorneys when they have barely paid for their wedding.

Durek threatened Fredrik Græsvik and Zahid Ali with legal action after a podcast mention. Now the duo has responded with the song "Kongens svigersønn" (The King's Son-in-Law), published last Thursday on Spotify.
– This says more about them than about me, says Durek to TV 2 about the song.
Græsvik and Ali sing about the threats from Durek and in the lyrics, Durek is referred to as a "charlatan". among other things.
– The podcast is going into summer mode, and we realized that we had to end this Durek stuff. We sat down and wrote a song. On Monday we were in the studio and on Thursday the song was out, Græsvik tells TV 2 yesterday.

Yes.

Interesting that she registered a business under the name "PML International AS" (I assume PML stands for Princess Märtha Louise) in May 2020, after the agreement in August 2019 that she would no longer use her title in her business activities. A "P" probably isn't technically violating the agreement, but wouldn't plain "ML" have made it clearer?

The abbreviation PML probably doesn't mean anything to most people at first glance; it's just another abbreviation that many people use, and very few people bother to find out what the letters stand for.
However, it shows that she is very aware of her title and uses it, for commercial reasons of course, where it brings financial success. Even the discussion at the time that she used her title to sell a product only led to the product becoming well-known and therefore selling better. I can imagine that this is a strategy that such members of a family use when they enter into a business. If you look at all the other examples, you can see the pattern.

It might be interesting to discuss which members of royal families feel the urge to make themselves known on social media and at the same time earn an income from it. Or even former members of royal families, who are often only known because of their relationship to the royal house in question and use this connection for this purpose.

Märtha probably needs to earn money to support herself, her husband, and her children. Recently, we have not received any information about whether Derek continues to work as a shaman and contributes to the family income. Are their daughters supported by their parents? I think so, as long as they cannot earn their own money through “influencer” activities.
