Princess Leonor arrives in New York tomorrow aboard the ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano

Princess Leonor will attend a concert by the Teatro Real de Madrid at Carnegie Hall, near Central Park, on Thursday, along with a group of ship's midshipmen.

There, Spanish violinist María Dueñas will perform songs by Erich Wolfgang Korngold, a composer who fled Nazism and found success in Hollywood, alongside the Teatro Real orchestra.

During her stay in New York, the princess will also participate in the swearing-in ceremony of the ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano, which will take place this Friday at 11:00 a.m. (4:00 p.m. GMT), during which she will serve as the flag bearer.

By the time she will leave the ship, she will have been away for 5 months. However, her mother visited her only a month ago. And while she is returning to Spain, she won't return home until mid July - after she has been training on board (of two different ships) for 6 months.

Princess Leonor to participate in military exercises with the Navy in waters near Spain

The concept and importance of deterrence not only permeates high-level diplomacy and EU and NATO politics. It has also permeated the Zarzuela Palace. For the first time, Princess Leonor will participate in a high-intensity royal exercise to demonstrate the Navy's ability to control and defend its territory against increasingly real threats. After a five-month tour of the Americas on the training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano, the heir will embark on June 14th on the frigate Blas de Lezo to immediately join the second phase of the deterrence and defense exercise Dédalo 25 in the waters of the Atlantic and, subsequently, the Western Mediterranean.

Ah...It would have been lovely if Infanta Sofía would have surprisingly welcomed Leonor to New York as many of the shipmates family did.

That must have been a deeply felt moment for Leonor and her classmates.

Princess Leonor returns to Spain on Monday, June 9th, after spending five months aboard the Navy training ship Juan Sebastián Elcano. This is one of the stages of her naval military training, which she will continue in the coming days on the frigate Blas de Lezo.

On the Blas de Lezo, considered one of the most capable and advanced anti-aircraft frigates in the world, the heir to the throne will complete her military, seamanship, and naval training for a month, with an operational phase during which she will participate in Exercise Sinkex and then join the "Dédalo" Expeditionary Combat Group in the waters of the Atlantic and western Mediterranean.

She will embark on June 14th in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The frigate Blas de Lezo, as other similar warships in the Spanish Álvaro de Bazan class, is fitted with the US Aegis weapons system, also used in the US Navy's Arleigh Burke class.

The Princess is scheduled to leave the Blas de Lezo in early July, as she is due to rejoin the Elcano ship on the 3rd when, after crossing the Atlantic, the training ship arrives in Gijón (Asturias). From there, she will sail to make another stop in El Ferrol (A Coruña) before heading to Marín (Pontevedra), where she will arrive on July 13th. On the 16th, the feast day of Our Lady of El Carmen, the delivery of dispatches ceremony will take place at the Naval Academy headquarters. On July 14th, Princess Leonor will receive the Medal of Galicia at a ceremony in Santiago de Compostela, and she will also be named Marín's Adopted daughter.

So, she’ll only be on this ship for about 3 weeks. I guess they are undertaking a rather important exercise that they had Leonor disrupt her studies on Elcano to join them for a few weeks.

The Blas de Lezo is the real deal in comparison to the training ship, good that Leonor has the opportunity to get some insight with the knowledge she has gained by now.
And gained a lot of confidence, as well as having earned some valuable street credit even as a new crew member.

The stay on the frigate is part of Princess Leonor's curriculum. Midshipmen embark on various military ships. In their third year, it's the Juan Sebastián de el Cano, but in the remaining years, they embark for shorter periods on other Navy ships. Leonor had to do this during the year she was in the Navy.

Her official arrival on the ship will take place this Saturday, June 14, at approximately 7:30 p.m., marking the beginning of an intense period of maritime training that will include her participation in the live-fire Sinkex exercise and, subsequently, her integration into the "Dédalo" Expeditionary Combat Group.

Interesting that she is saluted while going aboard. I supposed that until she has officially signed on as a crew member, she is the Heir, and as such outranks everybody else present.
Neat that she, naturally, salutes the flag/quarterdeck, before saluting the waiting officers. As is appropriate.

Leonor has such charisma. In the end, her parents were 100% right for "shielding" her during childhood. Since she turned 18, it has been non stop for her.

It's so easy to miss her salute to the flag before she gets on saluting the officers. Thank you again, Muhler. You always give us experience information some of us, even Spaniards, totally miss.

I agree. Felipe and Letizia (specially her) coped a lot of critics for shielding the girls when they were children. They were often negatively compared to other royal families, exposing their children to royal public scrutiny as a way to make them be known to their people.

The reality is that Leonor has literally had non stop engagements for her country since she turned 18 y.o, and had a few serious institutional engagements, including public speaking since she turned 16.
