Princess Leonor's Military Studies 2

I believe one of Leonor's royal cousins from the Borbon Two-Sicilies branch is also with her on that boat, right? Has anyone found news or social media on Leonor and her cousin interacting on this trip?

No, he is not on that boat. The Elcano trip is for 3rd year students, while Pedro Lopez Quesada y de Borbon dos Sicilias is a 2nd year student.

One of the guests at last night's reception on the ship shared her impressions on Spanish television.

"She's just another one of the midshipmen and midshipwomen."

"They welcome the Spanish community. It's like a floating embassy. They welcome us all to explain what they're doing."

"She was wearing a ruff, which is a gold plaque around her neck that indicates who is in charge of the event and who is carrying weapons that day. She was drinking water because she was on duty and was charming and very affectionate. She welcomed us on board and was grateful that we came to greet her."

"And one more thing: Leonor has rough hands, calloused from working with ropes, exercising, tying lines, and being at sea. You don't have to tell me she's being just another one, because it shows in her work."

"You see her interacting with them and the crew; you can tell she's delighted and having a great time. She radiates happiness. She was in charge of making sure the celebration went smoothly and tried to slip away because everyone wanted to say hello. She had a very spontaneous daughterly gesture when they talked to her about her mother, and she thanked them effusively."

Princess Leonor de Borbón, heir to the Spanish throne, carried the national flag this Saturday during the swearing-in ceremony on the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano in Cartagena de Indias, as part of her training voyage.

Such pride it must be for her to be the standard bearer

Cartagena is gorgeous and filled with such rich culture and customs. I do hope Leonor and her shipmates get to let their hair down and enjoy Cartagena.

Princess Leonor de Borbón arrives in Santa Marta aboard the training ship 'Juan Sebastián de Elcano'

Colombian singer-songwriter Carlos Vives attended a luncheon on the Juan Sebastián de Elcano ship this Wednesday during its stopover in Santa Marta. The luncheon was also attended by the Princess of Asturias and heir to the Spanish throne, Leonor de Borbón.

The luncheon was also attended by dignitaries such as the Spanish ambassador to Colombia, Santiago Jiménez; the mayor of Santa Marta, Carlos Pinedo; and the executive president of the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), Sergio Díaz-Granados.

Not sure why this unfortunate Mexican naval ship accident has to do with Elcano and posted in this thread?
I posted it because the Mexican ship is a training ship like the Elcano, heading for New York in a few weeks.
Its very tragic that cadets died because of this accident, apparently mechanical failure.

I guess this will be a hot topic on the Elcano -
A mexican training ship collided with the Brooklyn Bridge in NY

When I saw the news in YouTube live news this morning my very first thought was those pictures we were all concerned about with Leonor all the way up the mast hanging with just a belt to protect her. I hope with this accident someone steps in and decides the heir to the throne can't be up there on public presentations, or up there at all from this moment on.

The Elcano never had this kind of accident in their 100 years history. Leonor is very protected as heir of the throne, like the rest of guardiamarinas have always been protected.

I frankly don't understand comparing and catastrophising a Mexican naval vessel accident with the Elcano. Different navy, different countries.

I can speak for myself only but my reaction when I saw the ship crew on the mast and that the narrator stated those saved were because they had the safety belts attached to the mast, my thought was on the pictures we saw of Leonor and how many of us commented on her safety.

Yes, its a different navy, different countries situation but our reactions were based on remembering seen Leonor up there on the mast and, at least me, thinking these poor sailors had no idea how it takes but a moment to turn a photo op for the people watching them to a tragedy.

That's all, the tragedy today just reminded everyone on the pictures taken with Leonor at the Elcano weeks ago and why so many in here worried about her safety.

All of us who commented on Leonor and the mast were informed that the belts are only unattached when the ship was in port. The Mexican training ship was sailing (obviously).

Strictly speaking it has nothing to do with the Elcano, but I would be extremely surprised if it isn’t being discussed there, even formally by the commanding officers to the cadets, as it’s not only a humanitarian issue but the sort of thing future officers will need to bear in mind.

It’s unfortunate and spooky this happened so close in time and distance to Leonor and her shipmates, but we can only hope they learn fast and continue to be safe.

Lunch with the Spanish Ambassador to the Dominican Republic, the Minister of the Interior and Police, the Minister of Finance, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Dominican Navy

Princess Leonor and the First Lady of Dominican Republic, Raquel Arbaje

The heir to the Spanish throne performs her radio christening on "Españoles en la mar" (Spaniards at Sea) by @ree_rne from the training ship Juan Sebastián de Elcano during its stopover in the Dominican Republic.

"From the Dominican Republic, I greet all the Spanish men and women who work at sea and congratulate Radio Exterior for the 40 years in which they have listened to and served all these professionals on the program Spaniards at Sea.

There are many compatriots who dedicate their lives to fishing, the merchant marine, port infrastructure, oceanographic research, recreational boating, marine resource stewardship, and, of course, naval military training.

From one of the stops on this training cruise, I send my love to all of you who spend so much time away from Spain dedicated to the sea and who, through this program on our public radio station, feel closer to home. Congratulations and thank you very much."

Vice President Raquel Peña met with Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias, Leonor de Borbón, during her visit to the Dominican Republic.

They discussed the historical ties between the two countries and highlighted the role of education as a fundamental pillar in the development of leaders committed to a more just future and greater participation of women in decision-making.

After disembarking this week in New York, the Princess will return to Spain and embark for several weeks on the frigate Blas de Lezo.

She will re-board Elcano in July when the ship returns to Spain. She will do so in Asturias to conclude the cruise in Marín, as is tradition, on July 16, the day of the Virgin of Carmen.

While Leonor returns to Spain where will the El Cano and her crew mates be in the month long interim?

While Leonor returns to Spain where will the El Cano and her crew mates be in the month long interim?
They will sail back to Spain from New York (where they will moor from 5-10 June) and stop at 3 different locations before returning to Cádiz.
3-7 July: Gijón
9-12 July: Ferrol
14-17 July: Marín
21 July: Cádiz

Leonor will take a plane instead.

It is hard to believe that her time is coming to end on this leg of her training. September and the airforce will come quickly. I am sure her parents and Sofia (when she returns) will be glad to have her back in Spain for the summer

Leonor must be looking forward to returning home to her family. After all, it was 6 months away from her family, it must not have been easy.

Those few months have simply flown by!

In the unlikely event that the Oman state visit is rescheduled for the summer, Leonor might be able to attend the welcome reception and the state dinner.
