Can someone enlighten me more about the "swearing in"?
Are those 45 individuals holding dual citizenship for Spain and Uruguay?
How can they pledge allegiance to Spain whilst being Uruguayan citizens?
Yes, they are people with dual citizenship or Spaniards residing in the country.. During the 19th century and during the Civil War, there were many Spaniards who emigrated to Uruguay, and their descendants can apply for dual citizenship. 2% of the population of Uruguay has Spanish citizenship.

What's the mood on the streets in Spain in regards to Leonor's cruise and time in the navy? I assume this is covered well by the Spanish press.
Pride?
Indifference?
What cruise?

Not Spanish, or in Spain, but I imagine only the diehards are following her at every stop.

But she’s a lovely hardworking young lady and soldier/sailor/soon-to-be flier and I get the sense they are all still pretty proud of her, even the ones that don’t care much for the monarchy.

The Princess of Asturias and her companions from the training ship Juan Sebastián De Elcano have participated in different cultural, social and military activities during their stopover in Montevideo.

The Juan Sebastián Elcano will arrive in Punta Arenas, Chile, today, ahead of schedule, as its arrival was originally scheduled for Thursday.

Among the planned activities, crew members will pay tribute to the statue of Juan Sebastián Elcano in the town and will visit Puerto Hambre, where the ruins of the city of "Rey Don Felipe" are located, an enclave founded by the Spanish in 1584.

Princess Leonor, flag bearer in Montevideo aboard the Elcano

As her father did in 1987, she carries the flag at the swearing-in ceremony in Uruguay, one of the countries in the world with the most Spanish immigrants

Emotional swearing-in of 45 Spaniards on board the Elcano in Montevideo with Princess Leonor as flag bearer

I didn't quite understand what this swearing-in ceremony is about. Is it a ceremony for Uruguayans who are dual Spanish citizens? Why do they have to be sworn in?

EDIT: I noticed my question has already been answered above. Thank you.

This is the testimony of one of the participants, which I think explains it perfectly.

The "reunion" of the Asturian woman who swore allegiance to the flag before the Princess of Asturias in Montevideo

María Teresa Villarmarzo, an Asturian woman who emigrated to Uruguay at eight months old, participated "with almost childlike enjoyment" in the event on the Elcano ship, which stirred her memories as an emigrant.

The event will be recorded in the official chronicle as the moment when Midshipwoman Leonor de Borbón carried the same flag in the same place and at the same ceremony her father had performed 38 years earlier, but in Teresa's personal history, it was "a reunion." An emotional and evocative one that will forever remain on the "subjective map" of an Asturian woman who arrived at this port in 1949 on another ship and in the arms of her parents, Genoveva and Secundino.

This Friday, 76 years later, she sought and succeeded in joining the ranks of 45 Spanish civilians residing in Uruguay who paid homage to the national flag before Leonor and her Navy dress uniform. Why? "Rational in nature, I would respond that, with my origins now recognized by having traveled to Asturias and obtained the documents as just another citizen, it was the necessary proof to consolidate my Hispanic identity. But that's not true. It wasn't a bureaucratic procedure. It was, in its own way, a reunion, although paradoxically, the only face I recognized was the most inaccessible, that of the Princess of Asturias."

Arrival of the ship to Punta Arenas

The Chilean Navy welcomes the Elcano: "It's an honor to sail through this historic strait."

Having arrived in Punta Arenas two days earlier than expected, Princess Leonor and the midshipmen took the opportunity to explore the city. It's a small city, and the local press seems excited by the princess's presence. They published a photo of her in a bar and security camera footage from a shopping mall; they're not letting the poor girl enjoy herself in peace. Local people who have been able to approach and speak with her highlight her kindness and interest in local culture.

The Royal House reported to the Chilean police the illegal acquisition and dissemination of images of the Princess of Asturias in a shopping center in Punta Arenas (Chile), during a private and personal excursion by Leonor.

They finally got somewhere cold. Wonder if they’ll need the same gear heading anywhere else? The other ports are more temperate.

Not surprised they have reported this, shocking that the shopping centre cctv was released totally invasion of her privacy.

Not just Leonor’s privacy; it’s in violation of data protection regulations in both Chile and Spain for the people monitoring the closed-circuit to sell the images to the media like this like it would be for any ordinary person, not just a princess.

Which is apparently why Casa Real considers it particularly unacceptable.

It's time to close this thread. You can find the new one here.
