Is the 2-hour commute one way? So, the poor boy is to spend 4 hours a day in traffic, so he can remain living with his parents and only occasionally stay at a Bachelor suite near campus.

It could be 2 hours one way, depending on time of day. Other estimates are 75 to 90 minutes. For the 9am entrance ceremony, Prince Hisahito and staff left the Akishino residence around 6:30am, according to TBS.

I think he'll spend more days at the apartment near campus sooner than later. A long commute can get tiresome quickly, even with drivers.

The Princess has been shining on this visit!
I didn't realize that Brazil was home to nearly 3 million people of Japanese descent.

As always she comes across as a lovely young lady.

The Argentinian side of Iguazu is arguably more impressive but as this is a visit to Brazil, I assume she’ll have to make do with only the Brazilian side.

It's been a long visit to Brazil, with so many engagements!

Yesterday, June 17, Princess Kako has arrived back in Japan.

Today, June 18, she went to the Kashiko-dokoro in the Imperial Palace, according to the costum:

Due to dizziness and fatigue, Princess Kako canceled her June 23 visit to the mausoleums of Emperor Showa and Empress Kojun at Musashi Imperial Graveyard. She does not have fever and has not been tested for influenza or other illnesses. Her poor health is attributed to the long journey from Brazil. The customary mausoleum visit after traveling abroad will be rescheduled.

Her attendance at a tea reception at the Imperial Palace on June 24 will depend on her health.

Hope she feels better soon. The Brazil itinerary was busy.

Brazil is a quite diverse country demographically speaking. There are also many Brazilians of Italian, Portuguese, Syrian/Lebanese, Spanish, and German/Austrian/Swiss ancestry. Of course there is a strong African genetic ancestry too because Brazil received 40 % of the Atlantic slave trade.

Members of the Japanese imperial family have visited Japanese-Brazilian communities many times over the years. Most of the new generation has mixed ancestry now though and are losing their connection with Japanese culture.
