Princess Isabella's 18th birthday & celebrations: April 21, 2025

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
On the occasion of her birthday Princess Isabella has got a present from the Parliament and government worth 26.000 DKK. - That's a little more than 3.000 Euros.
It's from the Moonlight Grape collection by Georg Jensen. I'm sure the specialists here on TRF can go into much more detail than I can.

Wonderful photos. How beautiful that Queen Margrethe gave this tiara to Princess Isabella!

What are these jewels?

This is the collection mentioned, we can only guess and speculate on what piece or pieces she received.

I missed the fact that Isabella and her younger siblings already became Knights of the Order of the Elephant upon King Frederik X’s succession to the throne because “the statutes of the Order of the Elephant stipulate that the Master of the Order (regent)’s sons – today also daughters – are born members of the Order”, but only receive the insignia on their 18th birthdays.

By the way, have female members of the Danish royal orders always been titled Knight?

Her personal coat of arms still needs to be hung in the Chapel of the Royal Danish Orders of Chivalry.

See here for the announcement and discussion about the tiara (which is a gift from Queen Margrethe and separate from the Folketing's gift of jewelry):

Do we know who was the last holder of the order of the elephant princess Isabella is wearing, if I remember correctly Prince Christine got the order previously worn by his late grandfather prince Henrik

The announcement doesn't say. It does state that the insignia was refurbished and Margrethe II's monogram replaced with Frederik X's, so it presumably had a previous owner.

Ordenskapitlet = The Chapter of Orders probably have a record of who owned what elephant, but I doubt that information is ever disclosed to the recipient, perhaps with the exception of elephants within the DRF.
Because some orders were given to some less desirable recipients who happened to be heads of state. And not all died in their sleep...

More info on the private party Sunday night

"After dinner inside the elegant setting, the party moved out into the backyard, where a few tents had been set up.
...
A hot dog cart or food truck had rolled into the garden behind the mansion, and from here Isabella, the royal couple and all the guests could be served, among other things, a grilled sausage or a classic steak sandwich."
The Pølsevogn = hot dog cart/stand is a national treasure and much loved by everyone from birth to death.
I know of course they are common in other countries, but in DK we have turned them into a vital part of our culture. Everybody meet at the hot dog stand, from the CEOs of international businesses to retirees to not least police officers and craftsmen. (Always look after a eatery with many vans or patrol cars, no matter where you are in the world, that's usually a sign that the food is good and affordable.)
The hot dog stand came to DK in 1917 and never left.
An archetypical one: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f4/Pølsevogn_på_Nørrebro.jpg
Where they serve delicacies like these, that are almost not at all fattening or otherwise unhealthy:

But just as loved and popular the street hot dog stands are, just as loved and popular are those you can rent for parties and work events or a neighborhood party.
So it could be a guy like this the DRF rented for Isabella's party and I can say with absolute certainty that the queue was long!

It's not the first time the DRF have rented a sausage stand though.
And when the Regent Couple first made an official visit to Australia after they got married, they brought with them a hot dog stand at one of the events. The Australian police officers immediately lined up in front of it. Guess the got a hint from the Danish PET officers.

So if you are ever in DK, don't walk past a hot dog stand. Try it and learn first hand how it feels to become an addict.

Today was an official Flag day for Isabella's birthday. The Øresunds bridge was lit up in her honor.

a great video of Isabella's participation in the Royal Run over the years. Love how she and her siblings have been involved since the beginning

Isabella was already popular before her birthday. The way she has been presented (and allowed to be celebrated with the people) and especially how she has presented herself, has not diminished her popularity according to the comments I have seen and heard on the streets.
She was a natural, and genuinely delighted with the way she was celebrated, it's difficult for such a young person to fake and keep faking, so her reactions were genuine.
She gave her first speech as though it was her 724nd speech.
She approached the onlookers and well-wishers in a confident and natural manner as if she has been doing it for years..
And she presents herself well, both in manners and dress.

So the general feeling here in DK is satisfaction and a little pride, combined with a sense of relief that we do have a spare who is fully capable of stepping in and support, if she should wish to become a working royal.
Some commentators have remarked that QMII and the Regent Couple have previously stated that Christian is the only one ensured an apanage and that they might have to do some back-tracking if Isabella is to become a working royal. That's not considered a problem by most I have encountered, because people would genuinely like for Isabella to become a working royal, so an apanage is not considered a particular issue. Because there is a very popular somewhat cynical quote here in DK: Man har et standpunkt til man tager et nyt. = You make a stand until you make another one/until you change your mind.
That quote is very apt, as well as true.

- The apanage issue isn't considered a big one here IMO. It's more a question of us getting the best suited support for Christian and the Regent Couple, as possible. Who is also a spare. And Isabella at present fulfills these criteria. And that is worth an apanage.
It would no doubt be a different matter if she wasn't well liked, if she wasn't presentable, if she wasn't comfortable in public. As you know, the Danish tribe can be very practical-minded when it comes to our royals.

On another personal note; I am looking very much forward to seeing how the twins will present themselves when they turn eighteen. We may be in the most fortunate situation that we have several who are qualified to become a working royal. That would of course also diminish the pressure and expectations on Isabella, should she have other dreams about her future.
Both Isabella and Josephine have the undeniable advantage of being girls, and both of them are prettier than Christian and they no doubt look better in a dress than he does. He's got big feet you know. Would only ruin the overall impression if he wore dresses.
The world is unfair, but girls are simply more glamorous. Hair, dresses, jewellery, shoes, romance, holding cute babies = lots of coverage.
So a girl is simply a very good contrast to Christian.

Vincent can be the silent Prince everybody is sighing about...

I think Isabella made a wonderful official debut! She looked amazing, comfortable, was personable and her speech was great! Given that Christian is the only male heir of this age range at the moment, having Isabella make such a great presentation is a good balance and also provides the DRF with the younger generation glamour other royal families have given they all have female heirs. At 14, the twins are already very well media trained and did great during the official visit to Greenland. I think Josphine is going to keep growing into her own confident person and I think Vincent is going to have the young girls squeeing (as they say). Not to say that Christian is not a very handsome and capable heir. He is and has had more training than people think growing up. You can also already start to see the difference in him since he began his military training.

Anyway - before this post goes off track - Isabella had wonderful celebrations and I hope she enjoyed herself and all the events! Looking forward to seeing her hopefully participating in more royal events going forward and as her schedule permit. Fingers crossed that at the next incoming state visit, she is able to participate in the state banquet at least. And hopefully see her next year at the New Year's gala.

"Thank you so much to everyone who helped me celebrate my 18th birthday. It has been really nice that so many people have spent their time, thought and effort to make my day so special. This means a lot to me.

The latest photo of Isabella reminded me of this one of Margrethe, a behind the scenes, casual in gala vibes (minus the cigarette : D )

And lovely message from Isabella. Love that it was from her and not for the first time her and Christian have written a message in their social media. Nice!

What a great snd natural photo with a lovely message. She looks so pretty. I like she chose this photo to go along with her thank you post and not a more formal one.

Lovely portrait photo. She looks every inch a Princess. Although it’s a formal portrait with the various gorgeous jewels, sash and gown, the way she has been posed and her gaze to the camera suggest there’s nothing stuffy or remote about her.

I love this photo! Her smile is so natural and as a mum I can imagine the Queen taking the photo and thinking that is the Bella they as her family know and love! Also nice to get a closer look at her jewellery and makeup!

That's a lovely photo. Reflects her personality.

Since they share the same birthdate would it be possible that she received Queen Elizabeth II Order of the Elephant?

The Danish Royal Court choosed to not disclose who the previous wearer of that elephant was… Only that it had been worn before…

They almost never disclose such information… That they disclosed that Crown Prince Christian was wearing his grandfathers elephant was a rare exception.
