Princess Ingrid Alexandra's Fashion & Style Part 1: January 2022 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
It's nice over all but it is very matronly. She can wear the same outfit when she is 70.
I would like to see her in some modest, yet young and chic styles. She can take tips from Duchess of Brabant.

The Princess is beautiful as always, and the accessories are just right for her, but the coat is to big and stiff for her, because it is again her mothers from Brock collection.
Yes, the coat does not fit. It's a very beautiful outfit, but the coat is the wrong size. If she loves this coat of her mom's, I can't see why it wasn't fitted to her and given to her for future use.

She’s as beautiful as ever but I can’t get behind the headband. Maybe she needs a different hairstyle if she wants to wear one?

Im Ok with the headband, it gave a youthful look to a very mature look with pearl earrings, gloves and even a diamond brooch which is not really what her age usually wears, not even her mother very often...

I do get that Ingrid wants to be careful as to not get the ExpensiveGucci-princess label that Princess Madeleine had for many years, but if they want to give this frugal image and then her mother shows up in a new Dior outfit the communication from the palace is not crystal clear...Mette-Marits clothes does not fit Ingrid, she is much smaller, not busty and generally much more petite. She should leave the borrowing to purses, accessories and jewels. Hopefulyl a new-to-her dress tonight, but probably she has borrowed a navy dress from her mother to go with her new order.

Maybe that’s why I can’t get behind the headband… it belongs to a more casual outfit. She should have tried a Dutch princess fascinator or a low-key hat if she was going for Classic Formal Princess.

And yes, not borrowed or altered the coat. Sonja is an educated seamstress — how have they not had this discussion by now?

Nothing wrong with this look for her very first state visit but I look forward to when she has the confidence to express her personal style in official settings. As a fan of jewelry I appreciate the brooch.

Is she wearing the dress Mette-Marit has worn at the wedding of Victoria and Daniel?

Shame on everyone, since when is the Royal House of Norway a poorly house? Has all the money been used to pay for Marius' lawyers that the beautiful young Princess has to wear her mother's god-awful hand-me-downs!?

Terrible, just terrible.

She would look lovely in a plastic bag of course and it is nice to see her recycle her mother´s clothes. But this dress feels a bit dated due to the loose fabric in the skirt, which was something we saw more often around that time. She is very young still and is still exploring her style. Perhaps the darker palace lights make the dress look less nice as it did during the daylight in the sun of Stockholm back then.

I agree, she is young, and still working out what works and what does not. It is good to see her use her mothers clothes, sadly this dress did not work well for her.

I also thought her hair was not styled as well as she has had it styled previously for gala events.

Some how the dress looked better on Mette-Marit than it does on Ingrid Alexandra. Shame

I also think she should have worn her hair up. She is wearing a stunning necklace but it is partially hidden by her wearing her hair down.

I agree. The gown looked good on Mette-Marit, but it doesn't suit Ingrid Alexandra at all. She should also have had her hair up, now it looks like she hadn't been at a hairdresser at all, her hair is a mess.

I think that the "culprit" with Ingrid wearing her mother's clothes is that younger people are very invested in sustainability so wearing a dress of their mothers is their way of addressing climate change and other environmental issues. I think the same applies to Danish Princesses Isabella and Josephine.

Speculation on my part, I suspect if they were to splurge on new clothes or invest in tailoring, that the princesses would rather spend money on clothes worn to off-duty social gatherings than for official royal events. In other words, they'd rather look their best for their friends / peers than for the public. Although I will state on my end with Ingrid, I think that she looks fine when she wears her mother's clothes to daytime events - yeah I can see that the clothes are dated, I did not need to be told that the daytime outfit was a Mette-Marit hand me down, and if I really scrutinize, I can see the fit issues.

Her clothes for evening events are where I have gone "yikes" a time or two, specifically this state visit and Christian's 18th birthday, and also an outfit she wore to one of her 18th birthday events that may have been Sonja's. It wasn't quite a "yikes" but the proportions were out of whack. Despite me having a "yikes" reaction, if Ingrid and other princesses are standing on principle, I respect them for it.

Everything looked messy; hair, dress. Not a very dignified appearance.

I hope she doesn't get her mother's horrid dress-sense, but what other examples does she have? Sonja's style is often questionable IMO. Goodness knows her auntie M is a lost cause.

I think this dress looks great on Princess Ingrid Alexandra. I don't think the dress is ugly. It was nice to see Ingrid wearing a tiara again and for the first time with the royal family's order.

I won't often comment on how Royal women look especially the younger as it is so hard but here and sometimes seeing the Princesses, heirs and otherwise of IA's generation I have the strong feeling they have a PR method to not look too perfect. Royal watchers and commentators may not see it but I take it they are trying not to look too unreachable and different to the younger public audience in their countries. Almost like Princesses that could have trainers on but they don't.

Of the generation up from them in Europe there are 2 women married to heirs or incumbent monarchs that I do not understand how they can dress so unsuiting for their own figures after 20-25 years of advice and clothing allowances. One is very confident in doing it too. Needs some friends to help her perhaps but not people pushing brands. One other I think is or was too showy about spending and another forum covers that.

I like Ingrid Alexandra, but she looked like a big ole mess tonight. From hair to dress to tiara placement and everything else. Messy messy messy.

I did not like the dress when MM use it at Victoria's wedding and I don't think a hairstyle would have helped Ingrid except that they were extensions for abundant hair (Hi Madeleine Nobel 2012)

I keep hoping CP Victoria or Q Mary might provide some advice and guidance, especially CP Victoria since she had a similar role at the same age

As she has been proving, only if the plastic bag were altered.

She is a beauty who needs almost no polishing but it doesn’t mean everything will flatter and suit her, especially right off her mother’s rack.

Queen Mary yes, Crown Princess Victoria, no. Victoria will have Ingrid wearing her hair in a tight bun and wearing ill-fitting pants suits in ugly patterns. Now when it comes to being nice, relatable and approachable, Crown Princess Victoria can give master classes to Ingrid and all the other heirs.

As I mentioned earlier, I think these young royals are wearing hand me downs as their way of practicing sustainability. I am hoping as some of them get older and possibly using stylists, the stylists will help them look well-presented while still adhering to their principles.

I agree that CPV is not the one you want to go to for dress sense but she does have a couple outfitters who make her some very nice, flattering things, and has learned to reuse her mother’s clothes sparingly for best effect (as well as having her own daughter wear her clothes). So aside from being a friend, there are a few lessons Ingrid could take.

Ingrid loves her mom. She likes vintage, and she is committed to appearing to practice sustainability. All these are good things. But her position requires her in fitting outfits, in all senses. If Sonja’s not willing or able to give her a hand, then they need to get her something like a part-time stylist before events who will go over MM’s wardrobe with her. And then take the picks to the tailor. And hopefully persuade her to a few more purchases of her own.

One more note: while IA and her cohort do love closet shopping and doing a small part for our poor planet, let's not forget part of the PR strategy for rewear rotation is “getting the obsessive press to care somewhat less about whatever they wear by making it much less interesting”.

As she does appear fond of her nice sparkly vintage jewelry, though, I can’t think IA is extending the strategy to make the poor fits deliberate. She just might not realize some things from her different-coloring, different-bodied mom don’t work.

I'll be the odd one out here and say that I don't mind the dress on her. Yes, her hair wasn't the best, but even then, she didn't disgrace the NRF, or was inappropriately dressed. Clearly the dress was suited for a woman in her mid-to-late 30s (CP Mette-Marit was 36-37 when CP Victoria was married), but even then, the Princess did pull it off - for someone her age.

Comparing a 21 year old to other then and now Crown Princesses, who were close to and/or over the age of thirty when they debutted into the Royal sphere (other than CP Victoria), or even suggesting she needs their advice is harsh and unnecessary. Let her find her style, and if that is one where she recycles old gowns, I applaud her for being true to herself and her values.

I don' t like the way she' s wearing the Diadem. Like a soldier in Uniform on holiday😢
