On January 20th, Princess Hisako attended the opening ceremony for the special exhibition commemorating the 1150th anniversary of Daikaku-ji Temple, the former Saga Imperial Palace "A profusion of colors: paintings related to the Imperial Palace" at Tokyo National Museum - Heiseikan in Taito, Tokyo. The exhibition runs from January 21 to March 16.

Princess Tsuguko will attend the opening ceremony and preview of the "Japan Grand Prix International Orchid and Flower Show 2024 - Festival of Flowers & Greenery" on February 5th at the Tokyo Dome City Prism Hall.

As always, I except also former Princess Noriko to attend as advisor.

Of course, when it comes to Princess Tsuguko, I'm looking forward to it. I wonder, is Princess Hisako handing over some events to her daughter? If that's the case, welcome  This month, I also hope to see her at the 3rd Global Youth Forum for a Culture of Lawfulness (she attended the 1st in 2021 and the 2nd in 2022).

On February 5th, Princess Tsuguko attended the opening ceremony and preview of the "Japan Grand Prix International Orchid and Flower Show 2025 - Festival of Flowers & Greenery" at the Tokyo Dome City Prism All, in Bunkyo, Tokyo.

She delivered a speech during the event, stating that "I hope that people will not only appreciate the beauty of orchids, but also reflect on the importance of protecting the environment and preserving biodiversity". In her speech, Princess Tsuguko mentioned that there will be a special exhibition of the Rebun Slipper of Venus (Cypripedium macranthum var. rebunense, which enters flowering between May and June), a plant found only on Rebun Island in Hokkaidō Prefecture, that she will also attend (or attended already? My translator made a bit of a mess). Noting that the island's ecosystem has also collapsed and that the number of Slipper of Venus is declining, the Princess has asked to respect biodiversity. She also toured the preview of the exhibition and enjoyed chatting with the presents.

I suppose that from now on she'll attend regularly every year, as she is not cited as attending on her mother's behalf.

ETA: Former Princess Noriko as advisor attended as well.

Thanks! I’m not convinced about Princess Tsuguko taking over. Princess Hisako had a conflict in the morning and will visit the flower show later. It's always nice to see Noriko.

On February 5th, she attended the opening of the 2024 / 27th Japan through Diplomats' Eyes photo exhibition "Inspiring Japan" at the Red Brick Factory in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture. This is the exhibition's last stop after stints in Tokyo, Kobe and Okinawa.

I'll believe Tsuguko has taken over when Hisako stops attending

Princess Tsuguko will visit Kyoto Prefecture February 14th-15th to attend the 3rd Global Youth Forum for a Culture of Lawfulness (February 15th-16th) which will be held at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Kyoto City.

This is Princess Tsuguko's third attendance at the forum: it was held respectively as the 1st edition in October 2021 and as the 2nd edition in December 2022 and she attended both of them. She also attended the Kyoto Congress Youth Forum in February 2021.

Maybe she'll perform other activities while in Kyoto? This news absolutely made my day ❤️

On February 15th, Princess Tsuguko attended the opening ceremony of the 3rd Global Youth Forum for a Culture of Lawfulness at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Kyoto, Kyoto Prefecture.

She delivered a speech at the beginning of the event. She visited the Prefecture February 14th-15th.

I'm still searching for more photos or a video. As for the previous forums, Princess Tsuguko has received more media coverage, and I expected the same for this year. At least I expect a summary from the official website of the forum, as for the previous ones. Maybe the Princess has taken part in other activities in Kyoto? I hope.

It's always frustrating to search for photos and never find them. I understand that they are members of a collateral branch of the Imperial Family, but they are Imperial Princesses in the same way, so they deserve media coverage like the Emperor and Akishino families, because they have nothing less than them.

Princess Hisako will speak at the "Chester Beatty 25th Anniversary Online Lecture: Zodiac Animals in the Takamado Collection" on March 19.

In 2002, he became president and editor-in-chief of the Yomiuri Shimbun Group Inc., and in 2004, he became chairman and editor-in-chief. He also served as owner of the Yomiuri Giants from 1996 to 2004.

She was presented with an exclusive first-harvest green tea produced at Pazo Quinteiro da Cruz, a historic garden in Galicia that is part of the European Route of Historic Gardens.

The tea, cultivated in Galicia, was gifted by Beatriz Piñeiro Lago, a representative of the pazo, alongside a handcrafted camellia brooch from the Japanese brand Tsukabi&Co. On March 12th, Princess Hisako attended the 27th Chichibunomiya Memorial Sports Medicine and Science Award ceremony at Nippon Seinenkan Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

Emperor Showa's younger brother, Prince Chichibu, was known as the "Prince of Sports," who enjoyed and promoted many athletic activities such as skiing, mountaineering and, in particular, rugby. Following his death in 1953, several sports venues and awards are named after him.

Using the bequest from his widow Princess Setsuko, who passed away in 1995, the Japan Sports Association established a fund and created the Chichibunomiya Memorial Sports Medicine and Science Award.

Prince and Princess Takamado attended the first and second ceremonies after the award was established in 1997 and attended milestone ceremonies. Princess Hisako has attended every year, except during the pandemic, since the 20th anniversary.

Princess Hisako commented at this year's ceremony: "The Chichibunomiya Memorial Sports Medicine and Science Award is a very significant award, the first of its kind in the Japanese sports world to be established in the field of sports medicine and science, funded by a bequest from the late Princess Chichibu in her will. At a time when there is a demand for an environment in which all citizens, from Japan's leading athletes to the children at the bottom of the sports pyramid and elderly people who love to exercise, can enjoy sports safely and with peace of mind, the role that sports medicine and science play is extremely important. I hope that all of you here today will continue to work to promote sports medicine and science in the future.”

On March 24th, Princess Tsuguko attended a reception and concert for diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea.

The Princess appeared friendly and loving as she greeted the presents and was applauded by the crowd.

This year marks 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea. Among those present were musicians and politicians, such as Ayaka Shiomura, member of the House of Councillors.

I hope Prisma will find photos

On March 25th, Princess Hisako attended an art handover ceremony at the Côte d'Ivoire Embassy in Tokyo. She returned "two Senufo masks, two Baoulé statuettes and two paintings, all cultural objects of Ivorian origin, were returned to the Minister of Culture and Francophonie, Françoise Remarck..."

It should be noted that the pair of Baoulé statuettes, a Baoulé mask and a Senufo mask will return to their land, while the pair of Chiwara in bronze under glass and a set of 21 Akan objects used to weigh gold will remain on display at the Ivorian Embassy in Japan.

... Princess Takamodo recalled that the returned objects were gifts that had been offered to her and her husband, Prince Takamado, by the first President of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, the late Félix Houphouët-Boigny, in April 1993 during their visit to Abidjan and Yamoussoukro. This, as a form of recognition and friendship.

She emphasized that she shares Côte d'Ivoire's vision regarding cultural heritage, preservation, and promotion of culture.
"In Côte d'Ivoire, as in Japan, masks have a spiritual aspect. The Imperial Court has decided to organize several ceremonies of this type, concerning the gifts received, to allow the cultural objects received to return to their land of origin," she said...

I couldn't find any photos of Princess Tsuguko at the Japan-South Korea diplomatic celebrations on March 24th.

To say that this bothers me is an understatement.

:previous: I feel the same way. I also wish the Imperial Household Agency would expand coverage to extended family members or consider alternatives. If the agency cannot send PR staff to all events, then at least negotiate with the event's organizer for a decent photo.
