Princess Elisabeth, Duchess of Brabant News and Events 2, Feb 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I mean, she is probably one of the few foreign students who are little affected by the whole mess (beside of course on a personal level) as any other university will probably accept her for her second master's year with pleasure nor does she NEED a master from Harvard for her "career".

While I hope the whole situation sorts out quickly, I have little concern that the palace won't find a solution.
True. This impacts her least really. Still a horrible situation for everyone.

But Harvard is fighting this- as they should.

I’m quoting myself- but a judge has granted Harvard a temporary restraining order to stop this lunacy. (That was what I expected to happen.) Damage has already been done imo, but that’s another subject.

In fact another Trump-official, can't remember who, went out warning other universities that something similar could happen to them.

Yes. I think they’re using Harvard to try and force everyone into submission. Might have been Kristi Noem. Sounds like something she would say.

Anyway- to circle back to this thread- at least this is some good news for all students.

He think that Jews are the protected, specially when the US Constitution grants the right to freedom of religion...

The direct link does not work for me (I suspect one needs an X account) but Wim Dehandschutter has contributed to or written the following two articles:

Belgian Crown Princess Elisabeth's academic future uncertain after US foreign student ban

Quoting his comments from the first:

"Elisabeth will still do a seven-week summer internship with a view to her second year at Harvard. That does suggest that she might be able to return next academic year," he told The Brussels Times.
[…]
Another option might be for Elisabeth to finish her education in the United Kingdom, where she completed her Bachelor's degree in History and Politics at Oxford last year, or even Belgium.

However, choosing to study in her home country would come with a few extra layers of Belgium-specific complexities, explained Dehandschutter. "Should she go to a Dutch- or French-speaking university? A Catholic or a liberal one? Symbolically, those decisions will be very important here."

To avoid having to make these kinds of choices, Dehandschutter stressed that studying abroad would be Elisabeth's best option – wherever that may be.

And on a side note: These - Belgian - journalists referring to Elisabeth as “Crown Princess” are not incorrect (as some non-Belgians claim). There is a longtime and widespread tradition in the Low Countries (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg) of referring to the heir(ess) to the throne as Crown Princess or Crown Prince, even though it is not their formal title.

Even King Philippe’s 2015 decree on royal titles utilizes the term “of the Crown Prince or of the Crown Princess”.

It is more correct than referring to her as “The Duchess of Brabant” as so many non-Belgian English speakers do. :flowers:

She is almost never mentioned as Duchess of Brabant in the Flemish press.
Mostly Princess of Crown Princess.
It was the same for her dad.
On the IG account of the Belgian Royal Palace itself she is mostly mentioned as Princess.
Maybe it’s more of a cultural thing and more British to use the Ducal titles?
The Monegasque children are also almost never mentioned with their other titles.

You are right , Prince Philippe/Filip and never Duc de Brabant , and Princess Elisabeth never Duchess of Brabant. To bad the Duchess Elisabeth and Princes Gabriel , Emmanuel and Eleonore.

In French she is sometimes called "la Duchesse de Brabant" but not very often.
In Dutch nearly always "Kroonprinses Elisabeth".
British habits have no importance in Belgium.

Princess Elisabeth (23) has just welcomed ten patients from the Princess Elisabeth Children's Hospital to the Royal Palace in Brussels. The children were given a tour and then also took part in a workshop on harp and music. They ended the day with a communal meal.

Here are more photos of today's wonderful visit to the Palace:

At least HLN seems to consistently use 'prinses Elisabeth' not 'kroonprinses Elisabeth'. See for example her engagement today. So, I wouldn't say that she is 'nearly always' called kroonprinses. Both prinses and kroonprinses seem to be used, where some media have a clear preference for one or the other, while others use both interchangeably.

Princess Elisabeth attended a birthday party at the royal Château de Cazeneuve this weekend, along with members of the European nobility. In the photo, she appears with Archduchesses Ildikó and Zsófia, her brother, Archduke Károly-Konstantin, and Countess Madeleine d'Ursel.

Neither one of the young men in the picture seem to be either Gabriel or Emmanuel. Have they changed so much that I don't recognize them?

Doesn’t appear to be either of them. Maybe it’s the brother of one of the other attendees?

The phrase should be and their brother. Ildiko and Zsofia are the sisters of the gentleman in the picture, Károly-Konstantin. They are the children of Duchess Elika of Oldenberg.

I noticed that all three siblings were included in the picture as well as a second gentleman. Nonetheless, it seems you are right and the phrasing was incorrect. Thanks!

Not sure who the other gentleman is but Konstantin is the one on the far right. His sisters are in red.

The girl between Konstantin and his sister is Olympic Taittinger. But I can't find any reference to who our mystery man is.

Just looked at the instagram account of Madeleine d'Ursel, where the photo was taken from, and it seems to have been removed. We will not know who the man is, though the hair style screams he is French (/Belgian).

Although Madelaine d'Ursel seems a nice woman, going through such accounts of over-privileged people makes me -and I imagine others- yearn for a revolution, so I understand why the Belgian court prefers some discretion.

I couldn't have said it better 😂
And yes, she has removed the pic with Elisabeth

That sounds like a very relevant internship; and great that they announce on her last day. In this way, she was able to go about her internship like any other intern.

I love how they handled the internship. Publicizing she was doing one, but not advertising where until after it was complete. Allowing her privacy in doing the internship, focus on it, and just be a regular intern.

Sharing the photos of her last day lets the public know what she was doing, without intruding.

Great internship experience considering not only her future role but her current studies.
