On April 19 Princess Astrid participated in a virtual briefing of the Belgian Economic Mission to the United Kingdom next month:

Really lovely to see the Archduchess-Princess with her niece during the visit to the University of Oxford today.
 
The economic missions will probably be Elisabeth’s future job.
It’s nice that she get’s some experience from her aunt.
 
I think it's great that they are taking Elisabeth to places, to learn the ropes by seeing who does things, whether it is her mother, her father or her aunt.
She's being raised the right way as a future queen, the right balance of allowing her to live her life as a young woman and still learning what she will do in the future.

The many contacts between Belgian and British companies ultimately led to no fewer than nine signed "Memoranda of Understanding. Two important Belgian investments in the United Kingdom were also inaugurated, namely an integrated waste-to-energy site for the Indaver company in Rivenhall and the construction of a brand-new research and development facility for the Belgian pharmaceutical company UCB in Windlesham.

In Oxford, where part of the mission's program took place, Princess Astrid, along with Princess Elizabeth, and Belgian rectors, met with Professor Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Oxford, on the possibilities of further bilateral cooperation between our universities, the exchange of students and researchers, in the interest of the development of ecosystems in our two countries.

The cultural and historical ties between our two countries were highlighted during the tribute to Edith Cavell, brought by Princess Astrid together with Princess Anne. The British nurse Edith Cavell helped several hundred wounded escape from occupied Belgium during World War I, and eventually lost her life in our country. From May 8 to 12, Princess Astrid, representing the King, will lead an economic mission of Belgium to the United Kingdom (UK). With more than 400 participants, 214 companies and organizations and four days of activities in the Greater London Area, this mission will be one of the largest ever organized.

Belgium and the UK are neighbors who share not only close geographic proximity, but also a historic trading relationship and an innovative spirit. The economic ties between Belgium and the UK are historical, intense and deeply intertwined. Trade between our countries has deep historical roots that date back to the Middle Age, such as the development of the garment industry and the import of wool from England. Today, the UK is our largest non-EU trading partner (fifth largest customer and eighth largest supplier), with historic sectors that include: chemicals, transport equipment, machinery and food products. In addition, the UK is also in the top 5 largest foreign investors in our country.

The economic fabric of our country has great similarities with that of the UK: the dominance of the service sector, the importance of SMEs, a high degree of globalization and good cooperation between the private sector, government and academia. The COVID-19 pandemic has proven the great importance of sectors such as health, biopharma and life science - also for our relationship with the UK: British research and Belgian production facilities were instrumental in containing the pandemic.

These sectors are part of this economic mission, but of course the economic cooperation with the UK is broader. In the area of energy cooperation, there are opportunities in the development of infrastructure (interconnectors) and renewable energy (green hydrogen).

On May 19, in preparation for her forthcoming economic mission to the United States in June, HRH Princess Astrid received the chief executive officer of the Federal Participation and Investment Association and held a working meeting with the Minister of the Middle Class, Independents, SMEs and Agriculture, Institutional Reform and Democratic Renewal, who is responsible for foreign commerce.

The economic mission to the USA has started, the delegation has arrived yesterday.

Prince Lorenz has accompanied Princess Astrid in order to be with her on her 60th birthday today, June 5.

"I really wanted to be present with my wife for this important anniversary" he said in Atlanta today, but he will only stay for that one, special day:

Belgium and the United States enjoy strong economic ties. With over USD 58 billion in bilateral trade in goods in 2021, the United States is the largest export destination for Belgium outside the European Union. Belgium is the third export destination in the EU for the U.S. and represents a crucial logistics hub and a key access point to the European market. The stock of mutual bilateral investment amounts to more than $130 billion and is almost evenly balanced between the two countries. About 900 American companies operate in Belgium and many have established their European headquarters or important R&D facilities. The 500 Belgian companies operating in the United States also contribute significantly to the U.S. economy and employ some 70,000 people all over the country.

Very nice. Astrid and Lorenz have always appeared devoted to one another.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Astrid and Lorenz stayed in the USA this week after attending Joachim's graduation ceremony at Harvard Business School which took place last weekend. Especially since Lorenz also stated that he will stay only 'today' for her birthday and Astrid didn't travel with the others. So, it sounds like a perfect opportunity for a 60th birthday trip for the two of them.

Princess Astrid met with Margaret Beazly, Governor of New South Wales, in Brussels today, June 24. The meeting was part of the preparation of the economic mission to Australia in 2023.

The next Economic Mission for Princess Astrid is to Japan:

"Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid will chair an economic mission to Japan from December 5 to 9, 2022, in representation of His Majesty the King. The Belgian delegation will travel to Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Kyoto. This is the largest mission ever carried out in Japan."
