Princess Ariane, News and Events Part 1 (May 2023 - present)

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
She does give off the impression of being a fun kid and maybe the most self-confident of all three.

It would be lovely to get pictures of her in Italy, but I don’t suppose we’ll get one until she graduates.

This picture of Ariane in Italy was shared on her first day. Like you I expect the next picture will be next summer at the goodbye party.

Apparently Queen Máxima was overheard saying that Pss Ariane has problems with her eyesight due to the time spent in front of a computer screen. The Queen said this today at a conference about youngsters online. Ariane’s eyes have trouble focussing.

The quote was picked up by the Dutch press and was on several boulevard programmes and newspapers.

Ariane’s always had the family eye structure from Beatrix etc. I wonder if that has anything to do with it, but then you would think Eloise would have a similar issue.

A little bit indiscreet of the Queen… at least it ended up being the one child who might handle it best?

Due to Queen Máxima's remark about her daughter -something I am quite sure was not supposed to be overheard by the press- the eye association has received an enormous number of telephone calls of worried parents.

The say they feel for the princess but they also note it is a good moment for them to highlight the importance of parents talking to their children about their screen time.

Apparently the media is not very generous when it comes to dealing with information about princesses who are not yet adults; just images...although I do still think the fault lies with Maxima. It was surely an accident, but she should know better by now. I hope Ariane gets a sufficient apology gift.

I see nothing that is wrong. Like any concerned mother the Queen shared a relatable story. Now many mothers are concerned and now taking note computer screen time for their children too. That's a win as it has now brought awareness to the issue.

Throughout her life we've known of her health issues...lung infections requiring hospitalization as a newborn and toddler. I see this as no different.

Why would she get an apology gift for that comment? I had to get glasses at the age of 25 because of computer use; it is well documented that more and more children are requiring glasses because of screen time. What Queen Maxima did was highlight an issue! And she, like any other parent, knows of the difficulties of getting a teenager, or young adult, off their screens! I applaud her for saying it!

For indiscreetly making her royal child’s personal and medical information the subject of national and possibly international discussion?

As Marengo has pointed out, the comment was almost surely not meant to be picked up by the press, and thus was not Maxima “highlighting an issue” or doing anything for advocacy but being unthinkingly loose-lipped. And with a 99% chance without Ariane’s permission. For which I think she owes her daughter an apology. At minimum.

I have to respectfully disagree with you. Her comments were not an off-the-cuff - they were in context to her visit.

I translated the article. Here's a translated quote: "The focus of the conference was on the time that children and young people spend online. The queen spoke to young people, scientists, administrators and experts in the field of the digital living environment. Shortly after a girl spoke about her own social media use, Máxima talked about her 'youngest child's vision problems' and that they 'have to do with screen time'."

Let's not forget Maxima spoke about her child; and I will, for one, trust Maxima's judgement on what she shares and what she doesn't about any of her daughters - adult or not; royal or not. Maxima has been in royal circles for 25 years - she knows exactly what she is doing. This is no different to the late QEII, in 2018, stating on an engagement that Princess Charlotte bosses Prince George around. Do you think the Prince or Princess of Wales expected an apology from the Queen for making it seem the Charlotte is a bully? Or they made the Queen apologies to Princess Charlotte?

The Princess may need glasses!
It must be silly season for the Dutch media ,how they thought this was news worthy is beyond me .
Given all else that is going on in the world and how many of us too are in the same boat as Ariane with eyesight problems because of computers!
Its hardly an earth shattering revelation.
