When William travels to different places/ countries for the Earthshot awards does he have to coordinate visits with the British government or is this a separate event from if he were doing a royal tour? For example if he wanted to visit a factory that manufactures solar panels or any environmentally friendly business.

What an interesting question, I do not know a precise answer but I would have thought any overseas visit by a member of the RF would require the approval of the government of the day . They would ensure security etc etc, also ensure the individual was not placing themselves in controversial situations.

How is it decided who will be doing the Investiture ceremony? Is it because someone already has a full calendar for the date and then it is assigned to someone else?

I would think that the ceremonies are fitted into the diaries along with everything else, depending on what else the King, Prince William and Princess Anne have got on on the day in question.

Thanks Alison. Mods please move my question if it belongs elsewhere. Not sure how far in advance the recipients are announced for the ceremonies but can a royal request being a part of a certain investiture?

Not sure of the answer but I wouldn’t be surprised if whoever organises the event tries to ensure the royals particular interests are taken into account when planning.

I doubt that they can make an official request, because it'd look like favouritism. Unofficially, I'd think that, as Hallo girl said, their interests are taken into account.

I have read that there is a calendar for the entire year and that the recipients select the dates that work for their schedules. And you would receive your award from the royal who was on duty that day: KCIII, PoW or Princess Royal.

The Prince of Wales as Patron of the Passage once again visited St Vincent’s Centre, Carlisle Place, London for the Christmas party yesterday, December 5:

The Prince of Wales will travel to Paris tomorrow to attend the ceremony marking the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral. He’s travelling at the request of the Government to represent the United Kingdom

Today is the funeral of former US President Jimmy Carter. I saw on the news that Prince Edward attended.

I understand that King Charles can't attend due to his health but isn't this the kind of thing Prince of Wales would be expected to attend? When Charles was POW, he attended many things like this, especially when his mother were getting on with age and stopped travelling over seas.

I have nothing against Edward, but just thought such important occasion would require attendance by a more senior royal.

Where is Prince William? Does he have any events listed on the court schedule.

Today is Catherine's birthday, so perhaps that was the conflict in scheduling???

William has previously attended a State Funeral on behalf of his father for the late Emir of Kuwait in 2023.
Possibly the Foreign Office believed that the Duke of Edinburgh who had met the late POTUS was a better choice than William who was born after Carter left office?
