Princess Hanako has COVID-19. She had a fever of 38 degrees and sore throat on January 26. Her test in the morning was negative but the afternoon test was positive. Princess Hanako's fever dropped to 37 degrees by the next morning. She will recover at home and canceled her appearance at the Maison Franco-Japonaise New Year's Party on the 30th.

Prince Hitachi has tested negative.

On January 25th, Princess Hanako attended the Japan Equestrian Federation Awards Ceremony for Reiwa 6 (2024) at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Minato, Tokyo.

On March 28th, Princess Hanako attended the 83rd All-Japan Student Invention Exhibition and awards ceremony at the Science and Technology Museum in Chiyoda, Tokyo.

A fourth grade student from Shinagawa, Tokyo was awarded the Imperial Memorial Award for "Sparkling Star Sand," a device that uses photocatalysis to prevent pest ants from settling. There were 5,235 submissions this year.
