High-profile visitor in 'Campus Cup' on Thursday evening. In the supporters' stand, the TV viewer could spot Prince Gabriël. The eldest son of King Filip was in the audience to encourage his fellow students of social and military sciences at the Royal Military Academy (KMS) in Brussels. This did not go unnoticed by the presenter of the television quiz Otto-Jan Ham. "It's great that you're here," he nodded towards the prince.

The comments below the article are all very supportive of prince Gabriel. Many indicate they are happy that he can be a 'normal student/boy' (or appreciate him doing the officers course at KMS).

It will be interesting to see what his next steps will be. Will he serve in the military? Will he start a master's program; and if so, which one and will he do so abroad (which seems the norm for Belgian royals)?

In September the Prince will start a fourth year at the Royal Military Academy in Brussels to obtain his master's degree.

He recently spent 2 weeks at a survival camp in French Guyana.

Good question : will he serve in the Military ? Nobody knows.

Was this announced by the palace? Did they provide any additional information, for example, on the specific degree?

I saw the news posted on RTL as well, so yeah, the info came from the Palace, it's the same modus operandi used to inform about the children's course of action, most recently it's how they disclosed Emmanuel's future in Flanders.
He will do one more year at the academy to leave with a master's, so I'd guess it's the same as his bachelor's: military and social sciences.

Thanks!

I just read on the official website that he was doing part (it said 'currently', so I guess it was the final part but not sure how long he went to France for) of his Bachelor's program in France at the "Académie Militaire de Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan", so I wonder whether his trip to French Guyana might have been part of that.

He did his Bachelor in Dutch but the Master will be taught in English. Instead of sharing a room, he will have a private room during his Master's. He will have to pick one of three specializations:
- Security Studies for Defence
- Management Science for Defence
- Defence and Security Technologies

After graduating next year, he will continue internal military training programs (he will among others have to decide which branch he would like to specialize in) before he will officially be employed within the military as a team leader.

He did his Erasmus at Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan, finishing in late January/early February.
Trip to Guyana was something else.

The birthday message shared by the Palace today:

Prince Gabriel celebrates his 22nd birthday today! 🥳 After the summer, he will begin the fourth and final year of the social and military sciences program at the Royal Military Academy.

Prince Gabriel resembles his father the King, I think. Doesn’t seem so long ago that he was a little boy. Now he’s a good looking young man with hopefully a great career ahead of him.

On the occasion of his twenty-second birthday, the Belgian media outlet Het Laatste Nieuws published a profile of King Philippe's first son. It reveals, among other things, that the survival course he did in the French Guyana, was with the Foreign Legion.

According to information revealed by Het Laatste Nieuws , the son of Philippe and Mathilde of Belgium was sent to this overseas region, on the northeast coast of South America, at the end of June, with seven other students from the Royal Military Academy. There, the 22-year-old also met up with his comrades from Saint-Cyr to train with the Foreign Legion . For two weeks, the young soldiers learned how to survive in the jungle, during an "intensive and physically demanding" course .

Upon their return, Gabriel and his companions marched during the national holiday in Brussels. Admiring the parade from the royal stand, the Queen of the Belgians did not hide her emotion as her first son passed by in uniform. Proud parents, Philippe and Mathilde had visited him last October at the Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan Military Academy in Brittany, during his Erasmus exchange. " This military life suits me well : it's simple, sporty, and rigorous," Prince Gabriel confided to Point de Vue on this special day, revealing that he would always have wonderful memories of those few months spent at Saint-Cyr. Very fulfilled, happy in his Rangers, he is preparing to begin this fourth and final year, no doubt with a touch of nostalgia.

A survival course in French Guiana with the Foreign Legion seems very intense, But Gabriel looks very fit and seems to enjoy military life

The title of the article is: ‘The tree of Belgium’ / no doubt referring to his height.

On September 30, during a ceremony, Gabriël will be sworn in as an officer, alongside other fourth-year students who have just graduated. They will swear “loyalty to the King, obedience to the Constitution and the laws of the Belgian people.”

The Palace shared an overview about Prince Gabriel's military training so far:

Prince Gabriel will be sworn in as an officer this evening at the @royalmilitaryacademybelgium, after successfully completing his Bachelor's degree in Social and Military Sciences last summer.

✨In his third academic year, he experienced many highlights, including an Erasmus exchange at the military academy of @saintcyrcoetquidan. During that stay in France, he also obtained his parachute certificate after three weeks of training at the Ecole des troupes aéroportées in Pau.

🌿 He also participated in a challenging internship at the Centre d’Entraînement en Forêt équatoriale in Guyana: an intensive two-week program known for its demanding physical and mental demands, in which participants are trained in jungle survival and combat techniques.

🎓 The Prince is now continuing his studies at the @royalmilitaryacademybelgium as part of his master's degree. He now holds the rank of second lieutenant.

I just couldn't possibly be any prouder of our wonderful Prince. No shortcuts, no tailor-made program, no nonsense.

Pure grit and discipline. I'll be crying tonight almost as much as the Queen.

The magnificent "Tree of Belgium" will graduate in just a few hours! What an accomplishment for Prince Gabriel!😉

The Palace shared an overview about Prince Gabriel's military training so far:

In the United States, the rank of second lieutenant is granted only after the officer cadet is sworn in. From the wording in the Palace statement ("Prince Gabriel will be sworn in as an officer this evening", but "He now holds the rank of second lieutenant"), should we conclude that, in Belgium, one becomes a second lieutenant before taking the oath of office?

The word used in French is desormais, meaning ‘from now on’. So, I suppose that is indeed from the moment he is sworn in as officer today.

The ceremony this evening:

Didn't he take the oath in German also as his sister? They only showed the oath in Dutch and French in this clip apparently (maybe it is not the full footage).

I don't know either why the Prince had to shout the oath like that. I mean, it is not boot camp and he is not replying to a drill sergeant (just my humble opinion).
