Pope Leo spoke in English, Spanish, and Italian during the general audience, but used interpreters to deliver his greetings and message in Portuguese, French, German, Polish, Arabic, and Mandarin Chinese.

I suppose it is fair to say then that, although the Pope is said to have some knowledge of French and Portuguese, he is probably not fluent in either language, or at least does not feel comfortable yet to speak publicly in those languages.
