I hope we will get a lot of royals at the inauguration, especially Catholic royal ladies as I love seeing them wearing white at this event, they look so lovely.

Pope Leo XIV met the college of Cardinals earlier today, and, among other things, he explained why he chose his regnal name: it's mainly a reference to Pope Leo XIII, who "with the historic Encyclical Rerum novarum, addressed the social question in the context of the first great industrial revolution,” Pope Leo recalled. “Today, the Church offers to all her treasure of social teaching in response to another industrial revolution and the developments of artificial intelligence".

For his first (surprise) trip outside the Vatican, Pope Leo XIV chose to visit the Shrine of the Mother of Good Counsel in Genazzano, just outside Rome:

And on his way back to the Vatican he stopped at St. Mary Major to pray at the tomb of his predecessor, Pope Francis:

Today, Pope Leo XIV in the recitation of the Regina Caeli on Good Shepherd Sunday.

Fascinating! The roots are strong! So by definition the new pope is black!
It will be interesting to see if he visits and campaigns for peace in highly volatile and dangerous communities in the US like parts of New Orleans and Baltimore.

A very touching moment, I watched it live. He also sang in Latin the Regina Caeli prayer, which was a surprise!

The Latin text is shown below. Pope Leo sang the first two stanzas (before " Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, [...]"). He has a nice singing voice by the way.

℣. Regina Caeli, laetare, alleluia.
℟. Quia quem meruisti portare, alleluia.

℣. Resurrexit, sicut dixit, alleluia;
℟. Ora pro nobis Deum, alleluia.

℣. Gaude et laetare, Virgo Maria, alleluia.
℟. Quia surrexit Dominus vere, alleluia.

Oremus: Deus, qui per resurrectionem Filii tui
Domini nostri Jesu Christi mundum
laetificare dignatus es: praesta, quaesumus;
ut, per eius Genitricem Virginem Mariam,
perpetuae capiamus gaudia vitae.

Per Christum, Dominum nostrum. Amen.

Pope Leo held his first General Audience yesterday with journalists in the Vatican's Nervi Hall.
At the end of this audience, a journalist asked the Pope (who is known to be an amateur tennis player) if he would ever consider organising a tennis match for charity. He didn't rule out the idea, "as long as you don't bring Sinner" (joking also with the surname of the current world no.1).
As a tennis fan and a Sinner fan, this genuinely made me laugh

The motto is not new for his role as pope. It’s been his motto as bishop as well.

The Pope had a message for Eastern rites Catholics who came to Rome during his General Audience earlier.

And they've now met!

This morning, the Pope received world's no.1 Jannik Sinner, together with the President of the Italian Tennis Federation, Angelo Binaghi, and Sinner's parents, Hanspeter and Siglinde:

The Pope has a briliant sense of humour: after Sinner offered him a racquet, he said that they would let him play at Wimbledon now (because of his white "outfit"😂).
It's quite a coincidence that a Pope who is also a tennis fan was elected during the Rome's Atp/Wta tournament, which is currently underway at the Foro Italico complex (around 3 km from the Vatican).

I am delighted to see that the new Pope recognises the vital importance of tennis in the world :) !
