Polymicrobial infection doesn’t sound very fun 😖 Good that they are keeping him at the hospital for as long as needed
The nuns will look after Pope Francis very well!
However given that the Pope is 88 years of age his health of grave concern.

No doubt he will be taken good care of by nuns and nurses when he returns back to Domus Sanctae Martae… But yes his age alone is a cause for concern every time a hospital stay is needed…

New update on Pope Francis' health:
“The Holy Father remains without a fever and is proceeding with the prescribed treatment".

In a message to journalists on Monday evening, the Holy See Press Office gave the latest update on the Pope’s health since he was hospitalized on Friday to receive treatment for bronchitis.

“His condition is stable,” added the Press Office. “This morning, he received the Eucharist and then undertook some work and some reading.”

The statement added that “Pope Francis is touched by the numerous messages of affection and closeness that he has been receiving in recent hours; he especially wants to extend his thanks to those who are hospitalized at this time, for the affection and love they have expressed through drawings and messages of good wishes; he prays for them and asks that they pray for him.”

First update of the day on the Pope's health.
Matteo Bruni, Director of the Holy See Press Office, spoke to journalists about Pope Francis' health on Tuesday at around 1:00 PM.

"The night passed peacefully," he said. "The Pope rested, woke up this morning, had breakfast, and spent some time reading newspapers, as he regularly does. We will likely have medical updates to share later in the afternoon, around 6-7 PM. I do not have any medical updates to provide at the moment. In the evening, there will be more information regarding his medical condition."

New update on the Pope's health this afternoon:
Pope Francis is being treated for double pneumonia now following a CAT scan which he underwent today. Here is the full rundown from the Vatican Press Office:
In a statement, the Vatican said: "Laboratory tests, chest X-rays and the clinical conditions of the Holy Father continue to present a complex picture.

"The polymicrobial infection, which arose in a context of bronchiectasis and asthmatic bronchitis, and which required the use of antibiotic cortisone therapy, makes the therapeutic treatment more complex.

"The chest CT scan that the Holy Father underwent this afternoon, prescribed by the Vatican health team and the medical team of the Fondazione Policlinico 'A. Gemelli', demonstrated the onset of bilateral pneumonia that required further pharmacological therapy.

"Pope Francis is in a good mood, however."

Even this lutheran is hoping and praying for better news soon 🙏

The daily developments so far is worrying even if he is (thankfully) in good spirits…

He almost always appears in good spirits. He is a very positive person, I think. It is worrying news but Pope Francis has overcome serious health issues in the past. I’m sure there are millions of prayers for him around the world right now.

The Pope's health has been in steady decline but double pneumonia is very very serious given his age.

The Pope's funeral is allegedly being rehearsed after the 88-year-old warned he may not survive pneumonia.

The Swiss Guard protecting the Pope, 88, is rehearsing his funeral, with members under a curfew as they are 'preparing for the pontiff's death', Swiss newspaper Blick claims.

The italian prime minister has visited the pope in hospital to convey wishes of a speedy recovery on behalf of the government and the nation.

He was awake, responsive and joked ”as usual” during their conversation.

New update on the Pope's health this afternoon:
Pope Francis appears to be "stable" and is showing "slight improvement", the Vatican says in a new statement.
The Holy Father's clinical condition is stationary. The blood tests, evaluated by the medical staff, show a slight improvement, particularly in the inflammatory indices.
After breakfast, the Pope read some newspapers and then went about his work with his closest collaborators. Before lunch he received the Eucharist. In the afternoon, he received a visit from Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, with whom he spent 20 minutes in private.

When I had left lung pneumonia a few years ago I was so sure I was dying that I was afraid to go to sleep.

It was AWFUL.

I cannot imagine the suffering of a person of nearly 90 with double pneumonia.🙁

”The pope has had a restful night and had breakfast sitting in a chair at his room”…

It appears not to have gotten worse over night wich is a good sign i hope…

Yes i agree. And without this lutheran diving deeper into the world of the roman catholic church, i will say this that he is the pope i always hoped to see… Not only outspoken and unafraid of calling out ”democratically elected dictators” (something JPII was very good at as well) but also unafraid to move forward and breaking new grounds…

So even though his age is no longer at his side, he certainly has my thoughts and prayers, and my sincere wish that his pontificate will last longer than to 2025 🙏

A new statement was released tonight regarding the health of Pope Francis.
“The Holy Father‘s clinical condition is showing slight improvement. He has no fever, and his hemodynamic parameters remain stable. This morning, he received the Eucharist and then dedicated himself to work activities.“

This is the communiqué released to journalists by the Holy See Press Office on Thursday evening.

Breaking:
Sergio Alfieri, head of Pope Francis' medical team, made statements about the Pope's health:
He said "due to his challenging duties" he had suffered fatigue.
Mr Alfieri said he was a "fragile patient" but was in "good spirits" and joking with medical staff.
During a news conference, he added: "Is he out of danger? No. But if the question is 'is he in danger of death', the answer is 'no'."
It was his doctors first in-person update on the Pope's condition. They said he would remain in hospital for at least all of next week.

Breaking:
Pope Francis is in critical condition!
The Holy See Press Office issued the following medical update on Pope Francis on Saturday evening:

The condition of the Holy Father continues to be critical. Therefore, as explained yesterday, the Pope is not out of danger. This morning, Pope Francis experienced an asthma-like respiratory crisis of prolonged intensity, which required the administration of high-flow oxygen.

Today's blood tests also revealed thrombocytopenia, associated with anemia, which required the administration of blood transfusions.

The Holy Father remains alert and spent the day in an armchair, although he is more uncomfortable than yesterday. At the moment, the prognosis remains guarded.
