Order of the Garter, Ceremonies and Information 2: 2022 -

No it isn't. I guess it the wife of one of the Knights of the Garter as I don't recognise her as a family member but I am happy to be proved wrong. Princess Alexandra is a Lady Companion of the Order so wouldn't be standing waiting for the procession with Sophie and Catherine. The Duke of Kent was drive just ahead of the procession in his robes in a State limousine. I guess if Princess Alexandra was attending she would have joined her brother in robes and in a state limousine rather than walking in with the spouses of the Companions of the Garter.

According to the CC Princess Alexandra wasn't in attendance.
This is the entry according to the CC: The King and Queen gave a Luncheon Party for the Companions of the Most Noble Order of the Garter at which The Prince of Wales, The Duke of York, The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, The Princess Royal and Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and The Duke of Kent were present.

There is no separate list for those who attended the service but we know Andrew didn't (unless there is a way in out of prying eyes, which I believe there is but I can't be 100% sure). Had Alexandra attended either the lunch or the service, even if not seen by the public she would have been listed as Andrew is.

I assume because he attended in his capacity of royal knight of the Garter - and while he often isn’t present, he is still more senior than his younger brother, sister and the queen’s cousins.

I noticed that Catherine skipped luncheon unlike the other spouses.

Didn't Andrew arrive at the Chapel shortly after the Duke of Kent? There was a mysterious Knight of the Garter in a Range Rover, but the cameras didn't show his face clearly.

He may have done but I didn't watch the coverage last night as I was watching Masterchef instead and forgot the Garter was on. At the same time another knight in a Range Rover may have been an older knight like John Major (age 82), the Duke of Abercorn (age 90), Lord Butler of Brockwell (age 87) Lord Phillips of Worth Matravers (age 87). As you said 'Knight' I haven't included the two Ladies over 80 in my list.

Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg was a Knight of the Order of the Garter. His son never received the honor after his accession, and now with only three weeks until his abdication, I wonder if the new Grand Duke Guillaume will.

For that to happen there has to be a state visit from the United Kingdom to Luxembourg or in the opposite direction..

Grand Duke Jean was made a Knight of the Garter upon his state visit to the United Kingdom in 1972..

King Albert II of Belgium was also never awarded the Order of the Garter. And King Philippe has yet to receive the Order of the Garter. Will King Philippe ever make a state visit to the United Kingdom? Or will King Charles III visit Belgium?

The Problem is the lack of State Visits between the 2 countries. The same with Belgium.

Indeed. On a personal level the relations seem good, in deed Grand Duke Henri and King Philippe with Mathilde both visited Charles at Windsor (and seemingly stayed the night) which not all the other European monarchs with the Garter have done.
It seems purely based on the fact that the Garter is presented as part of the exchange of gifts / orders during a State Visit and as both country haven't had / didn't have state visits during the reign of Henri and Albert II such an exchange wasn't possible.
Guillaume probably has as more change I would say as Charles is still a "new" King and so potentially has all the European countries to visit in his reign (unlikely he will do them all tbh but still) whereas by the time Albert II and Henri were sovereign QE2 had already done or hosted one state visit to most the European countries.

What i wonder would it be possible for Charles to award them the Royal Victorian Order outside of a State Visit?

I guess Philippe could potentially be awarded the Royal Victorian Order during an official visit. I mean its more than possible, even the Garter could be awarded without a State Visit, it is just that it isn't.

Philippe and Mathilda have made a few trips to the UK for official events so on one of those in the future if he. has an audience with Charles he could well be bestowed the GCVO or similar.

On a technical point - Philippe wouldn't have an 'audience' with Charles.

Heads of State - both Presidents and Sovereigns are 'was visited by' in the CC.

Heads of Government, Ambassadors and High Commissioners have audiences.

Everyone else is 'received'.
