Joint Viking is a Norwegian winter exercise held every other year. Around 10,000 Norwegian and allied soldiers are training in Northern Norway from 3 to 14 March. The aim is to enhance allied interoperability, train on protecting NATO's northern flank and to test Norway's ability to recieve allied reinforcements. In addition to Norwegian forces, soldiers from Canada, Belgium, Finland, France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States are participating in the exercise.

Cp Haakon talked to Forsvarets forum, articles includes some new and historic photos.

For the first time they are meeting publicly in a defense context.
– It was very nice. It is important to practice, like here in Joint Viking. She will soon finish her initial service, he told the media.
– It was nice to see her in the field too.

Ingrid Alexandra is in her 14th month of initial service in the Engineer Battalion. She will graduate in April. It is not clear whether she will have more military education later.
– I think she is very satisfied with the service, but she will have to say more about that herself. They do an important job, and are skilled, It was impressive to see.

On Sunday and Monday he will be visiting Joint Viking, where 10,000 soldiers from nine different NATO countries are participating. The night was spent outdoors in a tent, and he is scheduled to visit various departments, including the Engineer Battalion and the Medical Battalion.

– It is good to get a feel for field life. There are many people here who are making a good effort, and what I have seen today is impressive, the Crown Prince tells the Norwegian Armed Forces Forum.
– The soldiers who are participating in Joint Viking are skilled, so it is good to see that the exercise is being carried out at such a high level.

Haakon and Ingrid was interviewd by NRK: video

– Now I'm going to graduate. It will be very nice in one way, but also very sad, because there are many people you have gotten to know well and grown to love very much. And it has been a very nice and educational service, says Princess Ingrid Alexandra.

– What will the princess take away with her?

– When you are up here, there are a lot of different people who are put together, and we have to learn to cooperate. Then you also learn a lot about yourself. I will take that with me, says the princess.

– What has the princess learned about herself?

– An incredible amount of different things, she says and laughs.

I have learned a lot about how to handle different situations, and I think that will be useful for anyone who has taken the first-time service, she says.

The Crown Prince Regent walked along the ranks of soldiers and passed his daughter, who was wearing the uniform and blue beret of Brigade Nord.

– It's a bit strange to see dad in such a situation, says Princess Ingrid Alexandra afterwards, looking over at her father and smiling.

– But it was very nice and solemn too, she adds.

I thought it was great! I'm proud of Ingrid, of course. And I think it was a great opportunity to inspect the Engineer Battalion, but I also think of all the young people who are doing their first service on behalf of all of us to secure our country. They are doing an incredibly good job and an important effort on behalf of all of us, says the Crown Prince Regent.

Asked about future plans she said she would come back with more information later

That's a lovely moment for father and daughter to share. The crown prince must be very proud of his daughter who turned into a wonderful young woman who seems comfortable with herself and her role.
i agree! i don't speak norwegian but just from watching her interview i can sense her confidence and charisma. the NRF is lucky to have her, im looking forward to watching her step up in the (near?) future.

She laughs a little bit like King Olav, I think (but less higher-pitched).

Haakon referred to his daughter as Ingrid. For some reason, perhaps mistakenly, I thought she was called Alexandra.

The princess has always been called Ingrid within the family. You may be thinking of her use of Alexandra as an unofficial surname in her military life, or of her brother who is called by his second name Magnus within the family.

Today, May 8, King Harald and Crown Prince Haakon attended Liberation Day and National Veterans Day at Akershus Fortress:

Very historic to choose A1 to Akershus 80 years after Haralds mother and grandfather came home to Oslo in that same car.

The King gave a moving speech in the Trandum forest this evening. Trandum forest had been a place of execution for resistance fighters and was only revealed after the war. 194 bodies were exhumed: 173 Norwegians, 15 Soviets and six British. They were dug up by hand, without protective equipment, by Norwegian and German Nazis, as punishment.

[…]
Dear all
Today we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the jubilant day in our country's history: the liberation from occupation, May 8, 1945. But it was not a day of joy for everyone. The war continued to cast long shadows over the lives of innocent people: Jews, queers, Roma. Children of NS members. Children with a Norwegian mother and a German father. Survivors who had lost their loved ones. Many had lost so much. For some, the war never ended.

The story of a war is always complex. In order to move forward together as a people, there is often only room for one story, one truth about heroes and villains, at first. But eventually we must accept the injustices that have been committed – and that there are multiple truths. This is a painful but necessary work for which we have a shared responsibility.
[…]
I am the third Norwegian king to have adopted the motto “All for Norway.” In the ultimate sense, this means sacrificing everything – including life – for Norway’s freedom and independence.

The Kings speech at Trandum is considered rather political and and support in the Denmark/Greenland /US conflict. Espeially the first part. The "noone is above the law" could also bee seen as a nod in the Marius direction, though I do not think he would use May 8th for that really.

– In the world, it means, among other things, showing mutual respect for national borders. That we respect international laws and regulations. That we can cooperate and trust each other within a community of allied states, said the King.

– In Norway, it means having a democratic government where the majority recognizes that one of their most important tasks is to take care of the minority. Where no one is above the law, and where all people are of equal value.

– In our local environment, in our everyday lives, we protect our values by avoiding spreading lies, but by speaking the truth. By taking responsibility for our own mistakes and actions. By caring and being kind to each other. By not only being concerned with protecting ourselves, but also taking care of others around us,
.

Isn't Harald a Spurs fans? If it's not conflict of schedule I bet he would love to be there. Probably he's happy about the result and excited about the final ;)

He is, Mette-Marit was asked about it, and she said she had asked him before they left and he had said that he of course were cheering for Bodø Glimt, but what could he say really…

Kongehuset posted a photo of Sverre Magnus and Mette-Marit with a Bodø Glimt soccer shirt in support of children with cancer that cant take part in their favourite game, they also show alot of other photos of the royals with soccer shirts and shirts they have recieved including one from national superstar Erling Haaland signed «to Ingrid».

I feel like there must be a story behind his allegiance?

He became Spurs supporter when he's studying in England during 60s, which was the club's glory years. Funny that Olav is the supporter of Spurs' main rivalry, Arsenal. North London Derby between the Norwegian father and son.

(Reddit translation of a Norwegian local paper)

Benedikte Ferner told that when she went christmas shopping with King Olav in London they went to the Arsenal game and he was invited in to the lockerroom as honorary member after the game and he brought her (21 years) and the soccer players did not expect a young woman to be with the King which created an awkward situation with naked and semi naked players, the King would laugh a nervous laughter but greet all the players as usual.
