Queen Sonja looks so youthful and fresh in her white suit and her daughter in law so frumpy, nothing looks good when you do not stand up straight.

Norwegian Red Cross

Her Royal Highness Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus visit the Norwegian Red Cross as their emergency teams are getting ready for the summer holidays (Kadettangen in Sandvika, 13:00).

During the visit, the royal siblings will be shown first aid and see how search and rescue operations take place at sea. They will also meet volunteers from different parts of the Red Cross.

There will be an official visit from the President of France and Mrs Macron, the Prime minister seems to be the host as it is not a State visit, but the King will host a gala dinner at the palace and the Queen, CP couple and Princess Ingrid Alexandra will attend that, and other parts of the visit. Mrs Macron and Queen Sonja will have their own program.

French President on official visit to Norway
French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron will come to Oslo on 23 and 24 June. It is 41 years since the last time a French president paid an official visit to Norway.

Press invitation from the Prime Minister's Office:
The Prime Minister will receive President Emmanuel Macron at Akershus Palace for a working lunch and a meeting at the Prime Minister's Office, before they are given a tour of the National Museum.

His Majesty King Harald and Her Majesty Queen Sonja invite the presidential couple to a gala dinner at the Royal Palace. Macron and Støre will also attend a business event, followed by a press conference that will be broadcast live on regjerginga.no. Brigitte Macron will have her own program together with Queen Sonja.

- I am looking forward to the visit, which will take place the day before the NATO summit in The Hague. In uncertain times, it is especially important to be able to talk about common interests and priorities. Norway and France are close allies and partners in Europe. We stand together in the fight for Ukraine's freedom and independence. Among other things, France, together with the United Kingdom, is leading the effort to coordinate the European support players for Ukraine, in which Norway also participated, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre.

Støre and Macron are meeting to discuss, among other things, the good relationship between Norway and France, defense and security, and the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East.

- Cooperation between Norway and France is becoming increasingly closer, deeper and broader. Over the past year, we have strengthened cooperation on green industry and green transition, and on defense and security. On international issues, France and Norway are very much in agreement on the need to preserve multilateral cooperation and stand up for international law, says Støre.

Cooperation between France and Norway on the green transition, green transition, energy and culture will also be on the agenda.

As it says Gala will it be white tie? Or is that too much to hope?

I wonder. Has the visit been designated as ’official’ instead of ’state’ to spare the King? Protocol-wise Macron’s counterpart is Harald, not the Prime Minister. And Sonja hosting Mrs Macron suggests that this is a state visit in all but name.

That was my initial thought as well… But the King is clearly able to host incoming state visits and there is protocols established since long about what to do if the King has to bow out last minute…

I would have said that it is a political visit with an added dinner att the palace, hadn’t it been for the fact that Her Majesty and Mrs Macron will have their own programme…

This feels like a state visit in everything but name and perhaps some less ceremonial

They skip the ceremonial stuff, which in fact the Crown Prince and couple has been in charge of most of the last years anyways. In the official calendar of the royal house, it has always been white tie when "gallamiddag" and if it says "offisiell middag" it usually mean black tie. So right now I am sure there will be worn tiaras for the state banquet.

If not now we know who is guilty

To me it seems the visit is very hastily arranged, a french state visit, the first in more than 40 years, has been a political wish for many years and would certainly be anounced in good time if it was planned. Decking up the whole of Karl Johan with flags and military must take some time to plan I guess and now they can skip that, but still treat him with style with a gala dinner at the palace.

Secondly, the President of France is certainly one of the most politically important people at the moment, and I guess the PM wants all the time he can get with him. Certainly it is grand with a royal state visit but when there is no politicial power, the royals can lull about at tourist sights and the politicians dont care, but Macrons rare time in Norway must probably be used wiser with the people who make the decisions.

Birgitte and Queen Sonja seems to be very close, she has joined Queen Sonja for both official and also several private visits to Paris, and Macron told Haakon during a meeting his wife was a great admirer of his mother.

Sonja wears the Josephine tiara, Ingrid her whole collection again but in a new to her red dress and better hair, Mette-Marit in something white and frumpy with the Daisy bandau. Seems to be civil white tie, only 70 guests.
Mrs Macron elegant and Chic during the day and in the evening
NRK shows live

Sonja also wears the earrings from Queen Alexandra, the two collet necklaces, the big pearl brooch and on the back of her sash the maltese cross brooch so she could hardly wear more jewels if she tried.
