Peace Prize winner Maria Corina Machado is not in Norway, and will not be attending the ceremony where the prize is awarded in Oslo. This is what the director of the Nobel Institute, Kristian Berg Harpviken, tells NRK.

"So, unfortunately, she is not in Norway right now. And she will not be on the stage at Oslo City Hall at one o'clock today when the ceremony starts."

The plan was for Machado to manage to get to Oslo in time. Three generations of the Machado family were to be reunited in the capital after several years in exile in different countries.

Now, Machado's daughter, Ana Corina Sosa, will receive the prize on her mother's behalf.

She is apparently still on her way to Norway. So hopefully she can still reunite with her family after 2 years not seeing any of them (and may even attend tomorrow's Nobel Peace Prize Forum).

I think the media has reported she’s cancelled her attendance due to the danger in trying to get out of the country.

I am not sure what media you are talking about. The article I quoted stated that she had been able to leave the country (via Curacao) and was on a plane to Oslo but would not arrive in time for the ceremony.

I am glad this article proved to be correct and that she safely arrived and is being reunited with her family members.
