This is the thread to guess, suggest and/or speculate about the name of the new Prince or Princess that will probably be born in April 2007.

If it's a girl, they might call her Margarita (at least I think so), unless they carry on with the tradition of naming their daughters a name, starting with A (Amalia, Alexia). :) ;)
Any chances she might be called Beatrix after grandmother or Juliana after great grandmother?

Princess Armgard / Princess Adelheid

It would be nice to name a girl Armgard or Adelheid (Adelaida):

Princess Amalia
Princess Alexia
Princess Armgard
Princess Adelheid or Adelaida

Armgard would be a nice tribute to Prince Willem-Alexander's great-grandmother Her Serene Highness Princess Armgard Cunegonde Alharda Agnes Oda of Lippe-Biesterfeld born Baroness von Sierstorpff-Cramm-Grieben formerly Countess Bodo von Oeynhausen (1883-1971).

Adelheid would fit as well because Prince Willem-Alexander's "other grandmother" was the high- and wellborn Frau Gösta Julie Adelheid Marion Marie von Amsberg born Baroness von dem Bussche-Haddenhausen (1902-1996).

Another Adelheid was: Her Majesty Queen Adelheid Emma Wilhelmine Therese of the Netherlands born Princess of Waldeck-Pyrmont (1858-1934).

On another board a poster thought that Spanish-speaking family will have difficulties with 'Adelheid' and 'Armgard'. Adelaida sounds better for them.

S.A.R. la Princesa Catharina-Amalia, la Princesa heredera de Orange, Princesa de los Países Bajos, Princesa de Orange-Nassau
S.A.R. la Princesa Alexia de los Países Bajos, Princesa de Orange-Nassau
S.A.R. la Princesa Adelaida de los Países Bajos, Princesa de Orange-Nassau

Princess Amaryllis

Euh... in the Netherlands we know an amaryllis as a flower which is usually blossoming during the Christmas season?

I think it would be nice to call a little girl Beatrix or a little boy Claus.

Well, as Amaryllis doesn't sound like a good choice because the Dutch think of it as a flower -- and given that W-A and Maxima speak English -- they would know that "Armgard" is considered deoderant by English speaking people!! So, I would guess that one is probably out of the running, also.

We already have a Claus and a Beatrix:

Catharina-Amalia Beatrix Carmen Victoria
Claus-Casimir Bernhard Marius Max

:flowers:

Princess Aurelia
Princess Anna-maria
Princess Anika
Princess Arabella

Well, I do not think that it will be Claus, as Laurentien and Constantijn have Claus Casimir, I also think Juliana and Beatrix are out as Juliana is already used within the family, albeit as a middle name and Beatrix is Amalia's middle name. As for other names, I need to think a bit and get back to the forum.

I meant as a first name. I was aware of the middle names. I think it would be nice for Queen Bea to have a little namesake. An actual Princess Beatrix not Beatrix as a middle name.

I had thought of Alexandra, but it´s the same as Alexia. i don´t think they will choose a name with A. If it´s a boy Willem is for sure one of his names.

It could be Andrea for a girl, August for a boy.

Perhaps for a boy,

Prince Julius Leopold Peter Alexander
Prince Maximillian Eduard Sebastiaan Georg
Prince Alexander Victor Claus Friederich

For a Girl

Princess Augusta Sophia Caroline Louise
Princess Helena Mathilde Eugenia Josephine
Princess Astrid Elisabeth Pauline Wilhelmina

Considering that last time Maxima insisted that the child would be named after her husband, I don't think Willem-Alexander has much choise other then to name the newborn baby after his wife. So maybe a Maximilian or Maximiliana? To dutch ears the names do not sound that good, so maybe they will only use as one of the baptism names. For a boy they probably use Jorge's anglosaxon name George, and Claus to and maybe even a Willem.

I am all with emmeleia, if it is a girl lets call her Alicia, so the other illigitimate daughter of Prince Bernhard (Alicia Bielefeld) has a royal namesake to (as does Alexia Lejeune). Anastasia is the only other A....ia name I can think of, and that is already taken by the eldest daughter of Prince Maurits. Or maybe Aurelia, but that doesn't sound very royal.

But seriously, I do not expect them to use Alicia this time, though if it is a girl it will probably start (and end) with an A.

My guess:

A boy -> Willem-Lodewijk Max(imilian) Claus George
A girl -> A...a Maximiliana/Maxima Wilhelmina Inez/Agnes (the dutchified version of Inez).

 this is funny.
For girl I guess it will be princess Francien Julia Aurelia :)
and for boy I gues prince Claus (maybe René) Willem Andreus
But it's very crazy!

Hi Marengo -

Having just returned to the US after spending 6 yars living in the NL and marrying a Dutchman, I totally understand your logic. But I have a feeling that Lodewijk has just not had it's resurgence yet, so I do not think that it will make it into the first half of the name. Also, I can't find any instance of that name in the Dutch or other royal families after a quick brief search. Can you?

Boy:

William Henrik
Maurice

Girl:

Anna
Emilia
Juliana
Louisa

Augusta !!!!

What is more royal than 'Augusta' ? Augusta means: the divine

And it also can be found in the Orange-Nassau tree, for an example:

Princess Louise Augusta of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau born Princess of Prussia (1808-1870), sister to Emperor Wilhelm I of Germany.

Princess Amalia Maria da Gloria Augusta of the Netherlands, Princess of Orange-Nassau born Duchess of Sachsen-Weimar and Eisenach (1830-1872)

Amalia, Alexia, Augusta.... :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers: :flowers:

What about Aurora or Aurelia?
Or even for a boy, Prince Andreas?

George

Aurora looks impossible to me: in the south of the Netherlands the most used names under fanfares, brass bands, choirs, etc. are Aurora and Caecilia:

www.fanfare-aurora.nl
www.fanfareaurora.nl
www.vriendenkring-aurora.nl
www.harmonieaurora.nl
www.khaurora.nl
www.aurorawoensdrecht.nl
Etc. etc. etc.

Aurelia sounds nice but would be a total new name in the Orange-Nassau family tree too. The same counts for Andreas.

Willem is one favorite. And George: grandpa Jorge and the late grandpa Claus Georg. Prince Willem-Alexander himself has George under his names as well.

One of the brothers of William the Silent (Stadholder Willem I, Prince of Orange) was called Lodewijk. Queen Wilhelmina admired the prince so much that she intened to name her son Willem-Lodewijk (a son that was never born of course). But for now it was a wild guess actually, but I still hope they will start his name with Willem, and one of the few names that goes well with that is Lodewijk. But maybe it will be a Willem-Frederik, a Willem-Maurits or no Willem at all. The Prince of Orange and his wife did not show to much regard for history (apart from the name Amalia), who IMHO as heir of the House of Orange should have gotten a 'Wilhelmina' somewhere in her name.

To Henri: How royal Augusta sounds, I don't think the first name of the baby will be Augusta, it sounds so severe for a little girl! But it would be a nice tribute to the mother of Prince Claus, Gosta von dem Bussche.

What about Ethel? Princess Ethel of the Netherlands. It works for me.

before I submitted the name Augusta, I looked around, and there are a few instances of it as first names, and many as second or middle names in the Dutch and other royal families.

I like it too.

Ana Milena or Arianna would also be nice "A" names.

I love the name Alicia (from the A names) or Margarita (non-A unfortunately).

Alicia just does not seem very regal to me at all. although, I can't say that I am that crazy about the name at all. Sorry Avalon. And with all of the controversy surrounding the other Margarita, I think it will be a while before that name is used in the family again any time soon.
