Dear members,

the turn of the years are like stumbling blocks. Some leap across them lightly, full of joy and fun,
some carelessly without even thinking about it, some confidently and excitedly for all that may come.

Others, however, falter, hesitate, stop. They fear the uncertainty, not knowing what's coming, or they know what's coming and fear it. Others look back in sorrow, having suffered great and small blows of fate.

Some have had beautiful, enchanting experiences, both big and small, and grieve precisely because
they are unique and irreplaceable, because something quite as beautiful will never happen again.

We grow older, things pass, what once was will be no more.

Looking back at the royal year we’ve seen joy (like the births in Sweden, UK and Monaco), sorrow
(the death of the Duchess of Kent), challenges and crises, changes (like in Luxembourg)
but also hope, relief and new beginnings (the recoveries of King Charles and the Princess of Wales).

So, however you master your leap, I wish you strength.

Strength to leap, strength to let go, and strength and joy to embrace the new.

6:15 AM here in New York on Christmas Eve and wishing everyone a happy celebration wherever you are in the world. I remember as a kid in the 1960s and 70s Christmas/Navidad in Spain was so quiet and religious and yet, I love the noise, the parties and the excess of Christmas in the USA. Two things can be true, indeed.

Merry Christmas!

And from my old memories of Spain, I always had this TV moment in mind from 1969 at RTE television celebration the 1970 new year. The singer is Rafael, Spain's top recording star in the 1960s and for perspective, he was like an equivalent of a male Beyonce + The Beatles + Barry Manilow of its times.

He's singing in December 1969 the Spanish version of the song The Little Drummer Boy

Toledo: As a somewhat old Lyric Soprano and pianist, music has always been a major part of my life. Thank you for sharing these clips. I enjoyed them all. I also enjoy your thoughtful and informative contributions to the discussions.

Thanks! and as a somewhat old retiree from CT moved to NY, that just turned 65 last week, it's Christmas morning! Merry Christmas to you and everyone at TRFs from us in chilly cold Upstate NY.

Glad you enjoyed them, it's a classic and makes me remember that in simpler times before the internet and social media we all got our Christmas joy from the radio and TV shows holiday programing.

Best wishes to everyone on the New Year, over here in upstate NY we can't even go outside because snowing and heavy winds will be on and off until Wednesday but we'll watch the NYC New Years Eve on TV.
