Marius Borg Høiby News & Current Events Part 2: February 2026 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
From yesterday, Marius has admitted that 2023 was a hard time for him of partying and drugs/alcohol. That Haakon takes him on the Lofoten surfing trip to get him out of Olso. But yet leaves him in a bar with a credit card?
I know I know, what could Haakon have done with a 26 year old man? For starters, not given him a credit card.
Especially when the 26-year-old in question is a known drug addict. I mean, that should be obvious to Haakon and MM, shouldn’t it?

The only reasonable explanation
is, as I said before, that Haakon and MM somehow feared that, if they didn’t give Marius money to party or get high, he would go full-time gangster drug dealer to get the money himself. The less benign explanation is that they simply didn’t think Marius’ behavior was a big deal, but rather a normal “youth indiscretion”.

Haakon and Mette-Marit made a mistake by not stopping Marius as soon as he started getting involved with drugs. Mette-Marit, with her past—she also had problems with drugs—should have realized sooner that he needed help before it was too late. But it doesn't surprise me that Marius has these problems, since both his mother and father also have a past linked to drugs.

It's shocking to realize that Mette-Marit and Marius, who were welcomed with open arms by the royal family, almost destroyed the monarchy with their scandals, and I hope they don't bring even more problems.

Haakon and MM should have concentrated on being Marius’ parents and not his friend. They didn’t want to do any of the heavy lifting.

I am really struggling to find any sympathy for Marius, Haakon, and Mette Marit. How could they have allowed his addiction and behaviors go on for so long? I'm tired of excuses. This is just willing blindness.

Mette-Marit has visited him in prison today

She is certainly looking straight towards the camera with a slight smile. If I were visiting one of my kids in prison, my face would not look like that🤯 nor would it look directly at the camera. I wonder if she is still in denial, thinks some of his behavior is “youthful indiscretions,” or if she thinks there won’t be serious consequences for Marius.

Does anyone wonder if drugs weren’t seen as a problematic by Mette and Haakon?

Well, in 2013, the Crown Princess adamantly rejected Jeffrey Epstein's recommendation to use (legal) medication to help her quit smoking because "I don't do drugs basta!"

Context for the smoking/"most beautiful woman on earth" email conversation of January 4-6, 2013:

It has taken me some time to respond
Because I was in some way so overwhelmed by emotion from your email
I know it is silly to smoke
It pulls me not only physically towards darkness
Isn't it so telling that that I started smoking again exactly when I met him

So I followed up. The smoking course is booked for the week I get back
I havent gotten the trainer in place yet but will do research in Miami so I will be ready to start when I get back

I don't know if I told you but the doctor warned me about the smoking when he examined my lungs
At first they thought it was a blot clot.. Only dark shadows from Small things I don't know the names of screaming for fresh air

Mette-Marit has visited him in prison today

Really terrible, MM smirking into the cameras. As another poster pointed out, one would expect a different attitude in this situation, especially with all the mea culpa going on from her side (only for PR reasons, in my opinion).

Terrorists Arfan Bhatti and Zaniar Matapour, hashish smuggler Gjermund Cappelen and double murderer Stig Millehaugen have all been taken down to the prison cells in the basement during the breaks during the trial.
But during Marius' trial, an exception was made. Instead of being taken down to the basement, he has been allowed to sit in a break room with his defense attorneys at the back of the courtroom. Much more comfortable. Defense attorney Ellen Holager Andenæs said that Marius was allowed to sit there for health reasons. He is struggling to get through the days.
But a change was done this week: Marius can no longer sit in the break room and instead he must be transported down to the cell in the basement.
– Now he is down there again. It is a question of resources. The police believe that it takes too many resources to have him in the break room and that he must be treated like anyone else. They find it difficult to spend so many resources on him, say defense attorneys Andenæs and Petar Sekulic.

See? This is part of his problem in my opinion. And part of the problem with the Norwegian Royal family's sense of entitlement. When even the police , AT YOUR RAPE TRIAL, give special treatment just because you are the Crown Princess' son. At least they're stopping now.

I'm not sure it was just because he is the crown princess' son (I'm not saying it had no impact either) - but something did happen early last week or he wouldn't have been moved to hospital from his prison cell, so it seems likely that this arrangement was related to what happened earlier last week (which most likely also made Mette-Marit decide to stay home and not go abroad). However, it also makes sense that after the situation stabilized somewhat that he is receiving regular treatment now.

So Haakon wanted to get Marius "seemingly" away from the Oslo Party Scene and *THIS* was the sad, but predictable result.
Makes you wonder how bad WAS the Partying of Marius's and Friends and Associates in Oslo. If that was the intention, get Marius away from that "Scene" and perhaps Re-group and Reflect in a change of Scenery. A Surfing Trip that his Step Father suggested.

That certainly blew up and is a cornerstone of focus in this Trial. Again, the appalling judgement of Haakon, is really something.
Instead of placing boundaries and restrictions on an apparently spiralling Maurius, he is left up to his own devices with Haakon GIVING him his own Credit Card to use there !
Really shocking that Haakon appears so clueless and reckless, easily manipulated by Maurius. And this is from the information released here and Pre Trial.
Makes you wonder what else what going on at Skaugum that a blind eye was turned too.

What I'm taking away from today's eighth day of the trial is the impression that Marius is very, very deeply addicted to drugs, and probably has been for many years. His main drug is cocaine (where did he get the money, since cocaine is very expensive?), preferably mixed with alcohol. This lowers his inhibitions, as he himself says, and makes him feel strong; his anxieties and feelings of inferiority disappear. He also occasionally uses the tranquilizer ketamine. Obviously he had a quarrel with the Frogner woman about taking that drug.

In short, a fatal drug mix without which he probably can't live anymore. As is now known, years of intensive drug use alter personality and cognitive abilities.

One can only hope that he isn't acquitted, but is sent to prison and absolutely undergoes detoxification there. This is also to protect other potential victims from him. If that doesn't happen, then in my opinion, he's lost and will ultimately ruin himself.
It is beyond me, how his parents have ignored all of this for so many years.

At today's hearing Marius clarified that he never had Haakon's credit card, " "Someone mentioned I had my stepfather's credit card. I never possessed it and was never allowed to have it."
I guess the visit last night from Mette-Marit did the trick ;)
It's not like Haakon or MM will have to testify or clarify anything..

The trial today centered on the Easter day woman. The day before this incident, Marius had an argument with his girlfriend
"He is said to have screamed at his partner, ripped off his T-shirt, and overturned furniture. A day later—the day of the alleged third rape—he is said to have punched his fist through a glass door and against another door in his girlfriend's apartment."

Seher haas pictures of Marius the day after that show his hand with a huge banaid. He was on a ski trip with, surprise, the Crown Prince couple. (pictures in the first video)

Being on drugs should not excuse him of his actions. Too drugged to remember all the details but not to purchase extra storage to store and hide the videos the day of the incident.

Some admission of guilt in my book,
"Did you tell the woman on another occasion that it was just the flashlight, while you were filming?" Marius caves: "Yes. That really wasn't good of me. I shouldn't have done that. That was stupid."

It was very unpleasant to read about the trial yesterday and today.
Yesterday Marius was presented by the witnesses as a very unlikable, disrespectful and arrogant person.
The pulse-watch confirmed that according the measurements the Lofoten-woman did indeed have intercourse and she did wake up at the time she was penetrated.
The Lofoten-woman also left a mixed impression on the witnesses. At least one had the impression that Marius was a notch on her bedpost.

It was also yesterday that the third victim, the Oslo-woman gave evidence and she ended up crying. She did not know what had happened while she slept until the police told her. - Marius does have a fondness for using two fingers - I need not elaborate, I trust...
She was perplexed how Marius left in a most ungentlemanly fast manner the next morning.

The second day left an even less positive impression of Marius.
His girlfriend at the time had just broken up with him, because he had been on ketamine while they were visiting her parents and his behavior led to both of them being told to leave. After that he ripped his clothes to pieces and pushed furniture over and as a consequence he was dumped.

IMO he was at the time of the abuse of this victim, at a stage in his drug abuse that I believe it would be next to impossible to hide it from his family, even is they willfully closed their eyes for that fact.

I am not an expert on Ketamine, but what I understand from the posts above, his lawyers are saying that this drug altered his personality and made him the violent rapist he turned out to be? If that is the case why did not Michael Jackson and Matthew Perry turn into sociopaths like Marius? Asking for a friend.

It seems like this reasoning of "the drugs made me do it" is similar to what we heard last week that "the media drove me to it". Neither is saying he didn't do it but simply giving excuses for why he did. An odd defence when he seems to be saying he didn't do it (or large parts of what he is accused of). At this point it feels like he'd be better pleading guilty and hoping the reasons his team present given him a more lenient sentence.

It does indeed seem suspect to me that he suddenly claims he didn't have Haakon's credit card after a visit the night before from MM (but maybe I'm projecting my distrust of her unfairly)

The more I hear of the way Haakon and MM treated Marius and allowing him to still party I wonder if he was into "harder drugs" and so for them drink and a lower classification (less "hard") drug was seen as a better option as they knew they couldn't get him off them completely. Not excusing them, its still so wrong to enable him in that way but its the only way it makes any remote sense to me.

Indeed. So long as Marius does not realize that he is the problem and the NRF does not realize that they are a part of the problem, I doubt Marius can (or want to) be helped.

Mixing ketamine with cocaine can lead to violent behavior like throwing things and punching holes through walls. Who knows about the dosages he took? The rape is about power, intimidation, and humiliation. Surely his three parents were even somewhat aware of his drug use when he was much younger. But until now, he has not been stopped nor held accountable so his violence has escalated. I cannot imagine the feelings, anger, humiliation, and shock of his victims when shown (by the police) the unbelievably intrusive videos Marius had taken of them when they were unconscious/asleep.

As someone else upthread said, he was certainly aware enough to keep his appalling trophy videos and pictures organized and hidden on his devices. These were premeditated and planned attacks IMHO. Had he/IF he is not stopped, it would not surprise me at all if he seriously injured or even killed one of these women. He needs serious help - he is a very clear danger to himself and to others, and it sounds like prison in Norway will be the best thing for society and for him and will be a step towards accountability and justice for his many victims.

Two witnesses, a woman and a man, described their impressions of the evening before things escalated. Both described how Marius's behavior changed as his alcohol consumption increased. He became aggressive and condescending, saying, among other things, "Do you even know who I am?"
[...] A text message from Marius to the woman from Lofoten is also made public in which he writes that he's going to an event (presumably the movie night) with "f.....ing Crown Prince Haakon."
[...]

Both Crown Princess Mette-Marit and numerous royal watchers have insisted that Marius Borg Høiby is a private person and of a completely different status than his maternal half-siblings, but these quotes paint him as someone invested in his royal family status, or at least giving that impression to others.

I believe this is called to have one's cake and eat it, too. A private person, hence free from media attention and any responsibilities towards anything and anyone but himself; and practical member of the royal family when it came to privileges and bragging, and impressing others.

I'm not without empathy for Haakon- drug addiction was one of my worst fears as a mom. I worked in a very stressful career field and witnessed firsthand how intelligent, hard-working people could trash their lives because of drug addiction. And you can't get anyone to quit - they have to want it, and they have to do the work to break their own addiction.

However . . . .

The (alleged) violence, sexual abuse, and rape are repulsive. And yes, I understand he has not been convicted yet of those charges.

And how pervasive the drug addiction was/is points to a very lax family view of drugs. They continued to financially support Marius and allow him access to royal property while under the influence of drugs. I'm not saying they had to throw him into the streets without a penny. But it seems there was no attention at all to what Marius was doing. I know Marius recently got a private apartment, but I hypothesize that the King and Queen put their foot down and said he had to leave royal properties.

And I am out of empathy at this moment in time for Mette.

If Haakon and Mette truly love Marius, they would want a sizable prison sentence so that the Norwegian prison system could have adequate time to rehabilitate him. Before he kills himself or someone else.

So sad to read about the victims testifying:
For the Oslo woman, it has been very important to maintain anonymity, but she has still experienced having her name spread on social media.
– After the indictment came, my name has been spread, everyone in my hometown knows who I am, said the woman in the witness box, clearly distressed.
– The case is drowning in sensation. For me, it's my case, my rape case. Everything has been so much bigger than me. There has been a lot around the case that has been given more space, the media, the lawyers, the police and the studies. I felt quite trapped and lonely in my life. Everything in my life was about this. I have felt like my life was put on hold, I have been ashamed, embarrassed and have had low self-esteem. The case has affected me much more than I thought. I am a pretty confident woman, but this has affected me badly.

The ketamine use is troubling to me. Ketamine is sometimes used to treat depression in the US, so I learned a little about it out of curiosity at one point. It's symptoms at the higher doses that would be needed for recreational use are very scary. It's also often not used alone, but is sort of a base for other drug combinations apparently. If you want a scary read, I can list all the side effects, or link them.

I think it is willful blindness, but the family does not see it as such. The family would have had to have known he was addicted at this point, but I also know from an experience in my extended family that denial is strong and is a serious factor in how people process things. People know, but they don't *know* if you catch my drift. These types of issues are overwhelming feeling, insurmountable feeling, and people back away from them and pretend they aren't there even when it is clear they are. My family member's issues were literally explained away by increasingly unrealistic explanations until she was no longer with us. The real circumstances still aren't acknowledged by those closest to her.

It saddens me that a family with substantial access to resources still finds themselves in this trap, but there is a trap. It doesn't excuse it. In fact, I have very little sympathy for it, ultimately, because this is a truth of living. We all have to face reality, or we end up sinking deeper and deeper into the sand. I've just seen first-hand how deep heads can be buried despite knowing the facts on some level. If the facts presented in the trial aren't waking them up (and I have no real idea if they are or not), I fear nothing in the (near) future will. Nothing has so far in quarters of my extended family.

Czenci, thank you so much for this post! I know that it's incredibly difficult for the closest family members of a drug addict or someone with mental health issues to accept the fact and act accordingly. They don't want to acknowledge it, they repress it, or they think, "It'll sort itself out with time."

It used to be much worse. I remember that my grandfather was deeply hated in the family, but the reasons why were never discussed. All I know is that he spent his final years in a so-called " psychiatric asylum." My grandmother suffered terribly because of him and didn't even attend his funeral. He clearly had a mental illness, but it was covered up, it was embarrassing, and no one wanted to admit it. In those times I am sure, there were no drugs involved.

Thankfully, we've come a long way since then with our understanding and treatment options.

And yet, as you describe, family members are often still unwilling to accept deficits or unusual behavior in their children and seek help. Even though there are so many resources available today! It's truly tragic. MM and Haakon are likely trapped in this situation and can't get out. They, too, should have received psychological counseling on how to deal with this troubled son. Instead, they ignored all the warning signs because they thought, "It'll all work out eventually."

I also think that unless you or your closest family members are not directly affected, no one who hasn't experienced it can truly grasp its full extent.

The court case continues, and the pattern continues. Alcohol and drugs, consensual sex at first, then the victim falls asleep and Marius commits abuse and records it without their knowledge.
The difference in this case, is that this incident occurred November 2024, after her had been arrested in August and "taking the accusations seriously"

The woman herself went to the police
"The woman said she read about the Marius case in the media. The "hotel woman" also learned that many media files had been found at Marius's home.
"Then I became curious about whether there was anything of me there. And then I thought that I actually just had to find out. I submitted an anonymous tip to the police where I wrote that if there was anything on his phone from that night, it could be me," the woman said."

Marius was suppose to testify but requested to do so tomorrow instead.

The woman points out that a friend in common had mentioned that Marius had boosted about having videos of the woman.
