I'm going to be cynical here: I don't believe for a moment that Marius has just had a fit of whatever. I believe MM and Haakon are lying (again, let's not forget) to try and win pity for him as being so unwell and mentally unstable that he wasn't fully himself - and that he isn't fit to stay in jail during the trial. Also, that's been their PR strategy for themselves - that all they've done is being good, supportive but helpless against drugs parents. They're doing it again, but this time they had taken IA along as well for even better image-cleaning. They have no shame/have a pressing need of a new PR team.

This morning:
It is not entirely clear whether the trial will start on Tuesday, as planned.
– We hope it goes as planned, writes defense attorney Ellen Holager Andenæs in an SMS to Nettavisen.
She says the same thing when we call her, but adds that she can't say more at this time.
– I think at the very least we will be able to start, adds Andenæs.
Andenæs also informs Nettavisen that there has been no dialogue between the defense attorneys and the prosecution, or the court, regarding a possible postponement.
Oslo District Court informs Nettavisen just after 8:00 that they have not received any request for a postponement and that the main proceedings will begin as planned.

The trial has begun. Marius arrived to the court with his lawyers, according to the media he wore a dark sweater with a white shirt underneath.
The court day begins with State Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø reading out the defendant's name.
Henriksbø then gives his opening statement, which will be the prosecutor's first presentation of the case in court.
After this, the first victim will enter the courtroom. According to the prosecution, the woman was raped without intercourse while she was unable to resist, at a party in Skaugum in December 2018.

Høiby looks down at the table as State Prosecutor Sturla Henriksbø reads the indictment, but looks up at the judge when he answers "no" to a criminal charge of four rapes. He speaks softly but clearly.
He also denies criminal charges for filming the women without their knowledge.
He partially pleads guilty to the charge of aggravated assault against the so-called Frogner woman.
When asked if he pleads guilty to domestic abuse, Høiby answers "no."
He further pleads guilty to a bodily harm charge against the Frogner woman, and partially guilty to reckless behavior.
He also pleaded guilty to transporting and delivering 3.5 kilograms of marijuana to another person.
Finally, he pleads guilty to new violations of the restraining order against the Frogner woman, and to a number of violations of the Road Traffic Act.
When asked about Høiby's profession or position, he answers "nothing."

Absolutely agree. People forget Ingrid Alexandra is only 22; and should not bear any responsibility of her parents actions on her shoulders. And if she did "disown" her family now and turns her back, there would be an outcry as people would say "blood is thicker than water". Damned if she does; damned if she doesn't.

She is 6-7 years younger than Marius, so the Marius she knows is probably not the alleged monster that we know him as. If/when he is found guilty, that is something she will have to work through, and I cannot imagine it would be easy for a younger sister to have to come to terms with, especially at the same time as what her own mother did too.
I haven't forgotten she's 22. Old enough to realize having a nice lunch in a public restaurant with Marius just 5 weeks ago was probably not so great. But did so anyway.

Just my opinion. They were going to plead not guilty on most charges. Now Marius has messed up the strategy by once again exhibiting violent and dangerous behavior against one of the very same women, only two days before the trial.

One couldn't possibly make a defense lawyer's job harder than Marius is doing! (And there is no question that his lawyers must have advised him on how to behave until the trial for the best possible outcome.)
So now, as some have already suggested, they are probably going to claim that Marius is so mentally unstable, he doesn't know what he is doing in those moments of violence.

Nearly 200 journalists from Norway and abroad traveled to Oslo to cover the criminal trial against Marius Borg Høiby.

Caroline Vagle, a royal specialist for Se og Hør, is among the Se og Hør journalists present today in courtroom 250 of the Oslo District Court and describes the atmosphere in the room as very serious.

"Marius is wearing glasses, has his hair combed, and is wearing a green shirt and sweater. He looks visibly distressed and nervous. He is looking down the hallway," describes Caroline Vagle.

There was already international interest in this case, but his mother's Epstein involvement blowing up a day before the trial surely made things worse and gave this case even more press attention...

Thank you for the consistent and always fresh updates on this case @LadyFinn and @Blog Real . Very helpful for those who can't read Norwegian.

Marius arrested!
Norwegian police said Monday the son of Norway’s future queen who will go on trial for rape this week, had been arrested suspected of assault, making threats and violating a restraining order.
If its not his mother its her son in the news and none of it is doing the Norwegian Monarchy any good!
I'm glad he has been arrested ,it should have happened a long time ago as he clearly has no remorse or regarding for laws or human decency!

His answer of “nothing” regarding his profession is most telling. He has very little self worth. No identity. No direction. Eve though he was “treated” like a member of the Royal family deep down he knew that he wasn’t royal.

I’m not giving him a pass on his behavior … but that answer said it all for me.

He needs to spend time in prison and get some serious psychological help.

There may be a new trial against Marius
State prosecutor Henriksbø talked about the arrest of Marius this weekend, where he is now charged with violence against the Frogner woman, knife threats and violation of the restraining order. He also said that it is uncertain whether it will be possible to complete the investigation and issue a new indictment during this trial.
– Then there will be an assessment of whether it will be dealt with in this case, or whether it must be taken in a later run. It is too early to say anything now, says Henriksbø.
Marius' defense attorneys have announced that they consider appealing the decision to remand him in custody.
It is unknown how Marius will respond to the question of guilt in the new charges. His defense attorneys have declined to comment on this because neither Marius nor the offended Frogner woman have given any statements about these matters during questioning.
Nettavisen following the trial:

Marius is trembling after returning to the courtroom after the break, escorted by two police officers and his defense attorneys.
He is not sitting with his attorneys, but is placed in the back row with an assistant from the law firm.As he sits there, his right hand is clearly trembling as he holds something to write with. It is uncertain what the reason is for his change of location.
While Marius sits with his hand trembling, he receives various forms of help from Anna Nielsen, sitting with him. She is the general manager of the law firm of Marius' attorneys. Shortly afterwards, defense attorney Andenæs gives something to Nielsen, which she passes on to Marius.
While all this is happening, he sits trembling in his chair, fiddling nervously with something in his hand and shaking his right foot. It appears he may have had a physical reaction.

I am confused.

A previously posted article (link) has, presumably translated:
Finally, he pleads guilty to new violations of the restraining order against the Frogner woman.
Also this article is a rundown of the proceedings.

I assume these refer to different violations of the restraining order. It's not the first time he violated the terms. So, my take is that he pleads guilty to a previous one while the most recent one is not yet part of this particular case.

Yes. It was always clear that Ingrid Alexandra liked Marius. She must be worried about him, and she was probably there to support her father and mother as well.

Loved. He IS her brother. The eldest. I don’t know how someone could excise love from their heart. Especially for family - Villon’s mother comes to mind.

Also, regarding the knife threat - it might very well be a suicide threat. All that’s happening with Marius is scarily reproducing what happened with someone in my family. The addiction, the destruction of places, the agresivity towards people they loved, the carelessness regarding their life, and finally the end which happened last summer (the heat exacerbates some things.)

Tremors from withdrawal, perhaps?

That answer of "nothing" sums up the root of a lot of his issues IMO. Everyone needs a purpose in life. Something to make you get out of bed in the morning.

Tremors from withdrawal, perhaps?
I would like to think that someone on his team had the sense to get him off any substances prior to his trial and he’s trembling because this has all become real to him and he now realizes that’s he’s facing serious time behind bars. But his team haven’t been able to get him to stop assaulting women, so I’m not sure they would have had the sense to send him to rehab to get him off any illicit substances he may have been using. Given that he’s only been in custody a few days, if he’s already experiencing withdrawal symptoms, then he would have been using frequently.

A Bulgarian living in Norway is following the trial and updating in a Bulgarian forum. This far, the main culprit according to Marius' defenders seems to have been the press who has hounded this poor young man all his life, making him feel like he was losing control over his life. Also, were his victims really asleep? And if they were really asleep, was he aware that they were asleep? Because if he had no idea they were asleep, he is innocent...

This particular lady has been always rightful in her retellings. If she's right about this as well, there's no way MM can stay a patron of any organization dealing with abused women. It's the classical approach of "making it not so bad". She chose to be mother first - well, quite understandable. But no way can she continue being a patron of charities dealing with countering this kind of twisting things.

It is interesting how many royals (and royal-adjacents) are quick to blame the press, even though, even in the most democratic monarchies, the press is far more deferential towards royals than they are to non-royal politicians, influencers, etc.

Isn't it? Always the press, always.

Also, I meant the defense. Not defenders. I hope I didn't cause any misunderstanding. That's the official stance that he and his family are pushing. Again, understandable. But MM can no longer present herself as a champion of abused women. You can't be champion if you support all of them but the ones your son abused.

Lets the Criminal Trial doing his work without speaking about Haakon and MM , it is too late for them.

When the court adjourned on Tuesday at 16.00, Marius was taken back to custody. However, it will be assessed whether he is healthy enough to be there or whether he should be transferred to a hospital, according to his defense attorney.
"A medical assessment will be carried out to see if he can be there. The prison's health department will take care of that," says defense attorney Petar Sekulic.
How was it for him to appear in court today?
"It hasn't been easy. It's been tough - as expected, really. But when he's also in custody, it's an additional burden in this very special situation. There are many people who are in custody during the main hearing, and it's going perfectly well, but this is a completely extraordinary situation for him personally and his family. Therefore, it's an additional burden that is worrying, I would say."
The defense attorney does not wish to comment further on the hospital stay or Høiby's health condition.

Good grief. So poor little Marius is having a rough time being locked up in a cage with no drugs, no cellphone or whatever. Its especially a burden because of who he is. (the special situation). I just cannot believe any of this! And I too think that he is shaking because of withdrawal and to sit him at the back of the room was so that the Judges hearing the case cannot see that reaction.

agree! and all of this because of the press!
Can't they leave him in peace to abuse women and drugs as he pleases!

and if he goes to the hospital today, is he allowed visitors?
I mean he is under custody/arrested.

Because he is for once in his life facing real consequences? Because he is this time going cold turkey for real?

He was locked up for a week last year and none of this seemed to come up.

What wouldn’t they give him at the hospital last night (like withdrawal medication) so he wouldn’t be shaking in court today or need further assessment?

I have a suspicion he might have a medical condition in addition to being a drug user and asshat. But I guess we’ll see.

As was expected German tabloid "Bild"is reporting live from Oslo. The headline today about Marius first day in court. No photos permitted, however, a court artist is making sketches of Borg Høiby. This is part of the description of today.

"Marius Borg Høiby (29) appeared in court wearing a brown sweater, green khaki trousers, a white shirt, and glasses. His hair was parted to the side. He held a rosary in his hands during the reading of the charges.
He was silent and pale, clutching a silver rosary tightly. He had previously undergone examinations at a clinic and came directly from pretrial detention.

Well, basically, yes. In the Bulgarian forum the lady who lives in Norway summarized it this way (or rather, the media there did): the defense claims that everything that happened was normal. For the circles both he and his victims frequented. Nothing else had a chance to stick. He is the victim. Of the media.

This live report from the court is pretty good. It's in Danish and as such it also explains a number of things about the Norwegian court procedures that are omitted in Norwegian papers, because they are considered general knowledge.
I used ChatGPT for translation. West Madsen is the DK journalist writing.
