Marius Borg Høiby News & Current Events Part 1: December 2023 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
But surely if they consider Marius as separate entity as NRF, there'll be reaction from the public towards him, not the towards the NRF. Or does it mean that Norwegians are so tolerant and forgiving that if there's a case of an ordinary guy committing serial rape in Norwegia making news, the Norwegians would behave the same of giving no reaction? (I'm thinking the French reaction over Gisèle Pelicot's case, but okay French aren't tribe, so they're different than Norwegians)

The way I see it as an outsider, the Norwegians public seems to see Marius as part of NRF, hence they'll turn blind eye for whatever he does if it means protecting the NRF. And good news for Sverre Magnus because this surely means he can do whatever he wishes with no repercussion since he's Harald's grandson would give him public's grace and his mother would also protect him with whatever she has.

If something similar were to happen in the JIF, at the very least we'd see public apology with dogeza.
I must owe you an answer ( DK saying), because I don't really understand it either. We must get an answer from a real Norwegian. Unfortunately it's been a long while since Royal Norway was around, this would and is hitting him hard, so I wont blame him for not wishing to discuss this. Apart from the fact that he other things to look after now.
If we look at comments in papers etc. people are not overwhelmingly supportive of Marius, nor particularly impressed with the way the NRF has handled things. But a smaller but not insignificant number of people use what I will call a "wait for the verdict" attitude.

Royal expert Tove Taalesen:
... Marius is living his best life on a luxury vacation in Cannes. Designer clothes, sunglasses, champagne glasses.
There are people who can't afford a summer vacation this year. He chose a yacht.
In the midst of a scandal, he shows zero contact with reality – and zero respect for those he drags down with him. (...) I have one word for that: Enough! Enough now. Enough with the excuses. Enough with the victim stories. Enough with the obfuscation.
If any other 28-year-old man in Oslo was charged with sexual assault, threats and violence, we would never accept that he was living the jet-set life in Cannes while the investigation was ongoing.
We had condemned it. We had demanded responsibility. We had talked about a lack of shame.
Marius clearly shows that he does not care. Not about legal certainty. Not about his own legacy. Not about his responsibility as part of a family that is still – for better or worse – associated with duty and dignity. He knows his name is making headlines. That he's dragging the royal family through the mud. And yet? He orders more champagne.

He is currently ruining the reputation of the Norwegian royal family.
But that doesn't seem to matter to Mette-Marit's eldest son, Marius Borg Høiby.

Luxury yacht vacation despite investigations
There are serious allegations against Mette-Marit's son, but he still enjoys his glamorous lifestyle quite unashamedly.

Not to play devil's advocate for the NRF, but I think it's possible that they don't fund his lifestyle anymore. He is hanging out with these rich criminals, who says they don't support him financially? Who knows, maybe Marius is spending his money that he "earned" by doing crime? Lord knows Marius would have no moral qualms about doing crime, but he might not be motivated and clever enough.

Indeed. But then the NRF has a choice: If he can afford to go on a luxury holiday with means he has... acquired elsewhere... then surely he can pay for his own home, pay his own expenses and live of his own means, right? So no need to live a Skaugum.

I have been thinking the same. Those millionaires with their millions worth yachts in Cannes are businessmen, where he was seen and he is friends with, probably invited him. They might be criminals and rich, or just rich.
This article in "Stern" mentioned one of Marius' hosts.

We now know that his parents are way too indulgent , an attitude that is rightfully much criticized . But I can also imagine that they let him live in Skaugum because they fear that they would then have no control whatsoever and would no longer know where he is or who he is with.
Although, they didn't have that before either😒. Nevertheless, I believe that this could perhaps be the last straw they are clinging to.

Sadly I've wondered about that possibility as well.

Despite my frustration (as an outsider) with the legal system in Norway, I hope that the long delays mean that the police are looking under every stone and behind every door, so to speak, to create a solid case against Marius. I would rather justice be delayed if it means that Marius is actually held accountable.

Well if they are not funding his lifestyle, the NRF can do two things today or months ago, Remove his diplomatic passport and release a statement saying he no longer has one. And kick him out of Skaugum. They already cant control him, what he does and who he hangs out with. So kick this 28 year old out. That will send a message!

Now i’m not a norwegian so i can’t speak with that authority but i have plenty of friends in Norway and i hear what they say…

My impression is that a lot of norwegians either don’t care about this at all, as long as The King and Queen, and The Crown Prince and Crown Princess shows up where and when they should and continues to do their official duties - or views this as 2 separate things and can distinguish The Royal Family from Marius…

The support for the monarchy as an institution in Norway is a part of the heart and soul for many norwegians. You don’t change that easily… And King Haralds personal popularity is still enormous.

What will happen after King Harald is an open book as of today… Some people doubt that Crown Prince Haakon will be able to match his fathers popularity… But at the same time a whole lot of people (including Harald himself) doubted Haralds own ability to be able to succeed King Olav who may very well have been the most popular monarch ever in any country… Yet he managed to do exactly that…

If most citizens continues to view Marius as a separate issue from the NRF, then this popularity may well continue in the next reign too….

Can anything at all change that ? Well i think should the upcoming trial for Marius uncover that for example The King having overruled the law to prevent the police from reaching him, or illegal money has been paid to Marius by The King or The Crown Prince for example, that would place the royal family on the accused bench in the court room too… Such as scenario would not go unnoticed… But as things stands, most citizens views Marius as a separate issue i think…. Yes The Crown Prince and especially The Crown Princess have probably acted with bad moral standards in their private lives, but the support for the institution itself remains unchanged as most people does not see Marius as a part of it…

Terrible! What kind of people want to be seen with him, let alone start a relationship

Celebrating in Cannes ,absolutely sickening and his companions are worse!

Some impressions of the scene in Cannes, where Marius seems to be well connected and enjoying life.

A few years ago, we spent a week in Nice, the neighboring city, which has much more to offer in terms of history, flair, and historic architecture. Out of curiosity, we took a short bus ride to the neighboring town of Cannes.

The place is not worth seeing at all, it was and is only famous because of the film festival. We were there shortly before the festival began.

The entire marina was full of million-dollar yachts. On each yacht stood black-clad guards with huge sunglasses who chased you away if you even came close. Their outfits reminded me of the movie “Men in Black.”

It is well known that there is a side show to the film festival. It is where the super-rich, Russian oligarchs, and super-rich men from all over the world meet. Young women who hope to gain something from this stroll by, perhaps hoping to be invited onto one of these yachts.
It's a different world, probably full of decadent, rich criminals who have their own network. None of the Monaco royals, who live right next door, would be seen there.
And there, right in the middle of it all, Marius feels at home.
That says a lot about him, although we already suspected it before.

In the article, that was linked: This Tchenguiz guy, on who's yacht Marius alledgedly spent a night, he was essential in bankrupting the state of Iceland a few years ago! He might even speak the norsk tongue and have good connections.
Further reading: Tchenguiz brothers arrested in Kaupthing investigation

And the other guy looks like a "wise and made man" too...

So, if Bonus-Prince Marius is preparing his stint to the Big House here, he is doing a fine job and might have now a "back" there...

Businessman Rehan Syed has shared several photos from Cannes in which Marius is pictured. In one photo, a watch can be seen around Marius' wrist. Watch expert Thor Svaboe tells that the watch is without a doubt a Rolex Daytona.
– It's a typical "go-to rich boy" watch. It's a watch that's very difficult to get hold of. You can't order or buy it in a Rolex store or from a watchmaker if you don't have a solid history, a purchase history as it is now. No matter how much money you have, if you have no purchase history and are a new customer, you won't be able to buy.
According to Svaboe, the watch is worth around NOK 200,000 (17340 €) and on the second-hand market you will have to pay between NOK 200,000-500,000 (17340-43350 €).
Several Nettavisen readers have wondered how Marius can afford to travel on such trips and wear such watches.

You would be forgiven for thinking that the NRF cannot afford having a close family-member associating with rich, questionable types. Who on top of entertaining Marius as a guest, also seem to present him with very lavish gifts.
It's baffling to me that the NRF does not take steps to disassociate themselves from Marius. I simply don't understand it.
An ordinary family can perhaps afford the luxury of holding on to a family members who is going rogue, but a royal family doesn't have that luxury. Except in Norway it seems.

We have charges lining up against Marius, we have Marius mingling with shady types here there and everywhere, we have Marius on regular luxury holidays and we have Marius getting very expensive and exclusive gifts from these types.
Yet, nothing happens. The NRF are doing nothing. The politicians are... well, all you can hear are crickets. The public.. Apart from a few posts in the comments sections, an editorial here and there and the odd opinion piece. Nothing.
And the general public don't seem to hold back whenever ML and her shaman do something unfortunate. But when it's Marius and the CP-Couple, Marius and the Regent Couple, then the Norwegian public perform a collective and very convincing display of the three wise monkeys.
So in that light; why should the NRF not be complacent about this? Why should they change their behavior? Why should the care? Why should they even be concerned?

I dare say in every other European monarchy the NRF would see their ratings dropping like a rock and there would be a public outcry and the republicans would dance through the streets in delight.
So I wonder: Perhaps the Norwegians have the royal family they want.

On another note: It's one thing that Marius is a guest and is being wined and dined by "interesting" people, but how does he know them so well? Why would they give him, very expensive, presents? What has he done to deserve that? - What, in the name of the holy teapot, is going on?!?

I'm not familiar with Norwegian law but here in Ireland someone who is under investigation for such crimes as Marius are made to surrender their passport at a Police station.
I'm utterly appalled at the photos and articles of him partying and celebrating on the French Rivera.

In Germany there is no automatic rule that your passport will be confiscated if you are under investigation/suspicion, unless there is reason to fear that you are attempting to evade justice or interfere with the prosecution.
I think that as long as they are still investigating and collecting evidence for prosecution in court, he can travel freely.

The general public indeed don’t seem to hold back with criticism of Märtha Louise and Durek Verrett. However, @ROYAL NORWAY has said many times that the general public wanted King Harald V to proactively give official consent under Article 36 of the Constitution to prevent Märtha Louise from automatically losing her right to succeed to the throne when she married Durek Verrett. He explained that the general public would have perceived the King negatively if he had held back from taking action and simply let Märtha Louise drop out of the line of succession upon marrying Mr. Verrett.

While that seems quite contradictory to me, their apparent attitude towards Marius’s privileges makes sense in light of it. Given that the general public wanted King Harald V to proactively keep Märtha Louise as a potential future Norwegian head of state, despite their deep dislike of her, why would they not want the Crown Prince Couple to proactively keep Marius in his housing at Skaugum?

(..)
In any case, this shows that Norwegians are a very patient and tolerant people, but I agree that this is quite contradictory.

those shady figures will calculate that they possibly will benefit from the royal connection. MM the future Queen will always be Marius' mother.

Another week, another possible victim of Marius. Will it never end!
The police are now investigating Marius for having committed a sexual offense against a 20 year old woman. That is now the tenth possible victim!
The material was found on an electronic devise of Marius, protected by a password.
It depicts a "sexual activity without intercourse" - That is any kind of sexual activity that is not vaginal penetration.
The attack is to have taken place last autumn. I.e. when Marius was under investigation.
It should have happened at Sandefjord. The two of them have had a relation of some sort for a long time. - Looks like he mainly finds his victims in his wider circle of friends.

The police is current investigating a password protected folder with sexual materiel on an electronic devise belonging to Marius.
- I suppose the police will have to try an ID the victims first and the question them. Which is of course tricky or a lengthy process, because I imagine the police go through Marius personal contacts and photos of "friends".

- And such a man is apparently free to roam the world and move around in other countries, where he may come up with the bright idea of trying out, shall we say, foreign cuisine. So if Marius has committed other offenses abroad while being under investigation, it sure wasn't prevented by the Norwegian courts or because his passport was taken from him. He should be in jail by now, awaiting his trial, he's too risky to be free.

Nothing in this case surprises me anymore... how long will this investigation with this device take? And whole this time Marius goes free, both in Norway and abroad. And his victims must live with this, waiting for the case going to the court.

This is simply disgraceful!
Meanwhile this thug is having parties on the French Riviera and clearly shows no remorse or having a care in the world!

Regarding Norwegians criticizing Martha Louise, but still wanting the King to give his assent to the marriage: please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Norway is a country where parents cannot disinherit their children. If true, I'm less surprised that many Norwegians supported the King giving assent.

As to the length of time to investigate, in most U.S. states (which are responsible for the bulk of sexual abuse prosecutions) an investigation of up to 2 years is considered quite normal. I'm not surprised that the investigation is ongoing, given the discovery of new possible victims, and some victims allegedly not wanting to cooperate with authorities. I'm guessing that the main issue is establishing that a victim did not, or could not, consent, so witness cooperation will likely be critical to prosecute successfully.

If many people regard the right to the throne (which is the only privilege Princess Märtha Louise would have lost if her marriage hadn’t been granted constitutional consent) as a parental inheritance that should belong to Märtha Louise unconditionally simply for being the King’s daughter, then it makes sense if those people also regard housing at the crown princely estate, a diplomatic passport, and (theorized) spending money as parental inheritances that should be Marius's unconditionally simply for being the Crown Prince Couple’s (step)son.

As a note, general discussion about the marriage consent requirement in the Constitution can be found in this thread:

I understand the wheels of justice take time, but in a small country like Norway, I expected Marius, considering the charges of rape, to have faced court by now.

Why the delay in bringing this case to justice?
We have discussed this delay many times, and most of us cannot understand why it is taking so long and why Marius is simply continuing his decadent and possibly criminal life abroad.
I now think that the police are still in the process of securing and evaluating evidence. In the age of mobile data, this is certainly much more difficult than it used to be. It takes time, a lot of time. That's why I believe they will only press charges once all the data has been evaluated and they have all the material they need to do so.
All those possibilities nowadays, thanks to digital data, twitter, snapchat, tiktok and the like, where people post and publish everything, are making it more difficult for the investigation, it must be a nightmare for the police nowadays. Sometimes I have read about existing internet platforms for criminals which are only accessible for those interested in criminal activities, such as child abuse, sexual exploitation, illegal selling of weapons, radicalisation of people for certain political opinions. They all meet there and share their opinions.

Exactly. It's one thing that the police takes time to investigating what appears to be an increasing amount of evidence against Marius. Fair enough, that may take time.
The problem is that at least some of the victims were abused while Marius was already under investigation and he was in the full glare of both the press and police. Suggesting that he doesn't care one bit. And also that evidence did get lost or at least was tried to be disposed off.
And Marius time and time again has been on vacation abroad and is out and about in the Oslo nightlife. To me, and I think most people as well, that is openly mocking his victims. And even if he it totally innocent it shows a total lack of respect for his victims and the situation he is in.
- But why shouldn't he? So far he has faced no, or next to no, consequences at all. It is becoming ever more clear that Marius has a long history of doing things he shouldn't and yet, what has happened? Has he been shipped off to a boarding school in the Scottish highlands somewhere? Has he been send out to sea with a school ship and taught some discipline? Has she been told: Pay your own rent, your own bills, find your own home? Has he been told: You wanna party abroad while under police investigation? Not at our expense!

Who is to say he has stopped drug-raping?
How will the police, the Norwegian courts, the NRF in general and ML and Haakon in particular, react if Marius has abused more victims here in 2025? What are they going to say if one or more victims ask: Why didn't you lock him up pending police investigation? How will they look say a foreign victim in the eyes, who asks: Why did you fund his vacations abroad? On one of which I became a victim.
Isn't MM supposed to be a patron for abused women or at least women's rights? Isn't Haakon father of a daughter?

Bah, I say! - And bah, is their sheepish answer.
