Marius Borg Høiby News & Current Events Part 1: December 2023 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Dagbladet:
The police found pictures and videos of TV profile Linni Meister in a hidden folder, several sexualized images and videos that have been hidden with a password function on one of Marius' digital devices.
The Oslo Police District doesn't want to comment this information. Linni Meister's lawyer, John Christian Elden:
- My client never gave consent to film anything, and she was not aware of the rape before the police showed her the material, so it is difficult for her to comment on this beyond saying that the situation is sad and demanding.
Dagbladet knows also that during the investigation, the police have seized voluntary sex videos from Marius' digital devices. The police have seized, among other things, three phones and Macbooks.

How much have Haakon, Mette-Marit and Ingrid Alexandra and Magnus known about Marius' acts? And how long have they known?
That's a good question.
His criminal and perverse activities were numerous and intense, as the public is now learning. Since he had no interest and probably no pressure to complete vocational training or studies, he was able to invest all his time and energy in these despicable activities.
The fact that he showed no professional ambitions at all should have made the family suspicious. They too should have asked themselves what the boy was actually doing all the time.

What a nightmare for these women, especially the ones who had no idea they were violated.

He's a monster for getting his kicks this way. He knew what he was doing was wrong. Having hidden files across numerous devices show malice of forethought. He's not normal, even when he's behaving his mental processes are still not right. He probably says things or makes bad jokes that are inappropriate, finds things funny that aren't. All of this leaves an imprint on his siblings. I'm fairly certain IA & SM were sheltered from the worst of his behavior but also certain they couldn't be totally unaffected by Marius's problems.

yes the children seem to be given free reign on e they get to 18, probably even before that. That isn’t blaming Haakon and MM but its interesting to see if they change their parenting style now.
So so sad, I really hope Marius faces some serious jail time as I don’t think much else will have any impact on him.

an intervention, hopefully?... the longer this goes on with no consequences/action from the royal family, my opinion of them diminishes further.
Hopefully, but I really doubt there will be an intervention in that quarter any time soon. Ingrid is an adult, but I doubt her parents would directly involve her in an intervention at her age and with her other responsibilities. Malangen seems like a typical vacation resort. He's already done a possible (partial?) stint in rehab. To me, signs point to a supportive vacation to stay out of the public eye. That seems to be the MO; when bad news comes out "duck and cover." I sadly suspect there will be a lot of that in the near future until the Norwegian justice system catches up.

Not sure how this can get much worse for Marius but each week brings something new. This is a dire crisis for the royal family in Norway and a tricky situation to navigate in terms of what they can or cannot say.

We need more Harald, I guess, since nothing else seems to even remotely lower the temperature of the dumpster fire. But I don’t think he can, will, or even should speak freely about this (police investigation [presumably in his name?] still ongoing…), and it’s not always New Year’s Eve.

Maybe he’ll allude to something for his birthday in a few days.

Every time I come to this thread the information gets worse and worse.

The more I read the more I feel that Haakon and Mette-Marit are not suitable for the throne. They knew and have known of Marius' vile behavior. Ex-girlfriends went to them, parties, theft all occurred on their property and even when they were home.
I mean if you cannot successfully govern your own household, how will you govern the Kingdom of Norway?

Justice is certainly not swift in Norway. In fact, I would say that this is all very dangerous. Marius has had a pile of allegations and evidence of his vile behavior and yet the authorities still allow him to roam the streets.
If and when he assaults and/or rapes another woman will it not be the authorities fault? They have knowingly left a very dangerous criminal free to roam and commit more crimes instead of locking him up and away to PROTECT the community.

VG writes about the calls and text messages between Haakon and Juliane Snekkestad's mother.
The first contact VG knows of is on the afternoon of February 7, 2023. Then JS mother sent an SMS to Haakon and asked him to call her. An hour later she got a reply "Hi NN . On my way to Haugesund. I'm in the hotel room as scheduled at 2040. Can I call then?" Obviously the call was done.
At 7:18 the next day, Haakon responds: "Good morning NN. Thank you for presenting the matter to me yesterday. I heard what you said. It will probably take some time before we can respond properly because I am traveling until Thursday. I will talk to Marius".
Before the official program ended at 12, Haakon received another SMS from JS mother, in which she thanked him for the phone call and expressed her hope that the situation would be resolved. She also raised an economic issue. In the same SMS, she also offered to send photos and other documentation of alleged violence.

Don't know how it is in Norway, but here in DK that phrase "I hear what you say" is considered corporate speak for: yeah, whatever. = I don't give a hoot.

I trust that's not the case here with Haakon.

Timeline based on the above:
Tuesday Feb 7, 2023: first contact (text messages and phone call)
Wednesday Feb 8, 2023: text that Haakon will need some time as he is traveling until Thursday, i.e., the next day.
Thursday Feb 9, 2023: Haakon returns home

Note that no official event for these dates can be found in the official agenda of kongehuset.

To some extent I can understand Haakon's attitude, as he would first have to meet with lawyers and other people in the palace to decide what to do. These are complicated matters and we do not know what Marius would have said to Haakon and Mette-Marit at that time.

So the text messages were in February 2023.
In the Summer of 2020 is when the "incident" in the royal yacht occurred. The sore hand by Juliane, and the need for Mette-Marit to stay in the cabin of Marius.

The Crown Prince couple can stop pretending they didn't know or they only relied on what Marius would tell them. They played dumb and kept enabling Marius, emotionally and more importantly, financially.

From the above link and other links, Marius has not been convicted, but he has been charged. At this time it cannot be said he is definitely a serial rapist unless in other countries the laws are different. He is being tried and convicted in the public and press, not by the courts yet. I am not saying he is not guilty or guilty but this is how rumors start. JMO

Haakon visited the Aker Solutions Stord on February 8, 2023, just as thw VG article I posted said:

Competent royals would have ensured accountability, not just damage control.

The above link is from November. There has been no new charges laid since that time.

Aftenposten was today the first to tell that Marius has changed lawyer.

Marius' new lawyer is Ellen Holager Andenæs, she tells that she was appointed as defense attorney on Tuesday morning. Øyvind Bratlien also confirmed the change to Aftenposten.
– I would like to thank Øyvind Bratlien and his colleagues for the legal assistance I have received over the past six months. They have stood by my side during the most difficult period of my life. I will always be grateful for that, says Marius in a statement via Andenæs.
The new defense attorney states that she will now spend time familiarizing herself with the case documents that form the basis of the criminal case against Marius.

Se og Hør's editor-in-chief Ulf A. Andersen is not surprised that Marius changed his lawyer.
- I am not surprised by this choice. Nor was it a day too early. Now I hope Borg Høiby gets all the help he needs. Both personally to deal with his drug problems, and not least legally.
Se og Hør contacted John Christian Elden, the defense attorney for Nora Haukland. Elden says about Marius' change of lawyer:
- One of the advantages of the Norwegian legal system is that you can choose your own lawyer at any time, without others interfering in your decision.

They don't say if Bratlien was let go or resigned. The only reason I can see for Marius's lawyer stepping down of his own volition is he feels the case can't be won and he doesn't want a loss on his record. If he was let go, Marius and his protectors possibly want to project a different image of Marius and feel the change will make him more sympathetic.

I find it interesting that Ellen Holager Andenæs is the former director of Norwegian police security services.

Well… it will be interesting to see the new lawyer’s strategy, that’s for sure.

What is her approach in court and clientele as compared to the other guy?

The article above says that the case has gotten too big for Marius' former lawyer. I'm not sure whether by that they mean all the charges that have been added since the initial domestic violence or the world wide media attention, or perhaps both...

Looking at the the new lawyer's website, she offers expertise in crisis & media management alongside criminal law, so I suppose that will come in handy in this case...

I'm still astonished that in Norway defendants can choose any lawyer they wish and the state will pay for it (not that it makes a big difference in Marius' case since his mother & stepfather would pay for the best lawyers for him anyhow).

The former lawyer, known as the "gangster lawyer" seems like someone perhaps recommended by Marius' gangster friends. The new lawyer looks more like someone members of the royal family or their staff might recommend to Marius.

This is beginning to seem like another Prince Andrew scandal, although the response from both royal families has been lacking. As more evidence comes to light it seems the NRF is eager to sit in the sidelines while this plays out. Although that may be the best course of action, personally the thought of realizing a loved one is not quite who we expected can be shocking - In all fairness I don't believe the NRF knows how to deal with this crisis.

Indeed.

A much more professional lawyer, who also knows the system from the other side and no doubt has a lot of contacts and whose professional background will be more likely to influence the judges. She won't be tainted by association with gangsters.
It is IMO a dream-lawyer for the NRF, which at least to me suggests that there is much more hands on control of both Marius, vis-a-vis his "cabin-arrest". He is no longer running around making a spectacle of himself and perhaps they have even managed to get through to him? Now that he has been isolated from his unfortunate friends and no longer has to be so macho. We may certainly hope!

His former lawyer Bratlien seemed to me to have little control over Marius and his defense tactic consisted of denying the obvious and even counter-suing a victim of Marius, a major PR-flop!
It's one thing to defend hardened criminals who know how to shut up and at least pretend to be remorseful and for a time adhering to the instructions of their lawyer and otherwise try and talk down what evidence was laid against them.
But Maris was (still is?) a loose canon.
Bratlien may well have been in the deep end and found himself drowning.

I also think we won't have anymore police-leaks. With the new lawyers background that won't be tolerated and she will have the knowledge, contacts and gravitas to shut such leaks down.

Whether the new lawyer is a good thing for the justice for the victims of Marius is a very open question though.

There is nothing to suggest all of the defendants do not have equally good legal representation, is there?
We may hope.
Apart from the cases where Marius actually filmed himself doing funny things with his victims (at least one refusing to even being a victim) there really isn't that much of a case against Marius.
Apart from the victims stating things, what concrete evidence are there that really he has was that abusive? Domestic abuse is notoriously difficult to prove, as we all know. Domestic rape is also difficult to prove. - Marius had some anger issues, and he suffered from psychological issues and he was an abuser. But otherwise he was sweet, charming and funny Marius, remember?
And when they are proven the abuse so often get off lightly because of "circumstances." And a good lawyer can always point out "circumstances."
A good lawyer could tear Marius victims apart in the courtroom. A very good lawyer can do it without it looking cruel towards the victims.

And Marius is a first-time offender from a good family...

The drug-rapes will be Marius biggest problem and I find it difficult to see how he can away without doing time.

Hopefully all the victims have good lawyers, but this woman's CV is very hard to match. Public prosecutor, judge at the appeals court, director of the Police Surveillance Agency, then 28 years as a lawyer. Who would want to go up against this lady + your head of state's relative in court?

The victims are already somewhat at a disadvantage because Marius is a member of the King's family. One would hope that everyone would be treated the same by the justice system, of course, but that is clearly not always the case, whether in a monarchy or a Republic...

What impresses me about Norway is that the victims / offended parties are assigned attorneys and my understanding is that the attorneys assigned to the victims / offended parties are well-regarded.

Things may change because Marius switched attorneys but Bratlien said that Marius is pleading guilty to the assault charges against the Frogner woman and the threats against a man. Both of those carry a penalty of up to one year each. I hope that with the admission he made in his statement and other evidence that he will at least get convicted of the heavier penalty (up to 6 years) charge of partner violence against the Frogner woman. If he gets the maximum penalties that is 8 years for those three charges.

Marius has two rape charges each carrying penalties up to10 years and I suspect there is going to be a third rape charge involving the presenter. If he gets convicted on at least one of the rape charges, I doubt he will plead guilty, then that will be some additional years. My (wishful?) thinking is that if there is not enough evidence to convict him on every single charge, then he will get stiff penalties for the charges that they can get convictions, on the basis that the charges where they may not be able to get convictions will at least establish that he is a serial offender.
