Marius Borg Høiby News & Current Events Part 1: December 2023 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Where are you getting that the person who called Mette-Marit is a "career criminal?" Reading the translation of the story, Marius was at the cabin with three men, including the son of a business executive and a guy who had been convicted of something. One of those men called Mette-Marit when Marius was arrested, and he later landed in jail.

We have no idea which person called Mette-Marit, and we don't know how the person got Mette-Marit's number. Maybe Marius said, "Call my mom. Her number is XXX." Or, maybe one of the men is the son of one of Mette-Marit's close friends.

And, we don't know why the guy is now in jail. Maybe he had unpaid parking tickets or something trivial.
Because the article says so and because the criminal has been mentioned before in this thread. You may recall that it caused some stir regarding who Marius was with in the cabin when the police raid took place.
The man is a known criminal with prior convictions who has association to other criminals and gangs. In my eyes that makes him a career criminal.

It’s almost certain that any friend of Marius who has MM’s number got it from Marius himself. If Marius gave one of his criminal friends his mother’s number for any reason, well, that shows very poor judgment on his part, but that can hardly be surprising at this point.

And if MM got a call out of the blue from one of Marius’s friends with the news her son had just been arrested I think “tell me exactly what happened” or something very similar is a very reasonable response. No one is going to delve into the details of a caller’s criminal history before they get the information they need about what’s happening to their son.

The article does NOT say that the guy who made the call is a "career criminal." (Unless some huge point dropped out in translation.)

The article says, "After the police in September believed that Marius had violated the restraining order he still has against the Frogner woman, they decided to arrest him while he was on a cabin trip at Skeikampen. Marius was there with three other men, including the son of a business executive who owned the cabin, and a previously convicted man....

"The police eventually went back to Oslo, with Marius in the back of the car. But it didn't take long before his mother learned about the arrest. According to Se og Hør's sources, one of the men who was present in the cabin called the Crown Princess and told her that her son had been taken by the police. At that time, Mette-Marit is said to have told her that she wanted to know everything that had happened during the arrest...

"The person who called Crown Princess Mette-Marit is now in prison. Se og Hør has been in contact with the man's lawyer, Alexander Greaker, but we have not received answers to our questions."

We have no idea which of the three men called Mette-Marit. All the article says is that the guy who made the call is now in prison. It doesn't say he was the previously convicted man or that he's a career criminal. That may turn out to be the case, but that's not what the article says.

The article says very clearly:

„Da Marius ble pågrepet av politiet på hytta, tok en kjent kriminell umiddelbart direkte kontakt med Mette-Marits på hennes hemmelige privatnummer“

When Marius was apprehended by the police at the cabin, a known criminal immediately made direct contact with Mette-Marit on her private secret phone number.

A known criminal, at least in Scandinavia, means a person who has committed several crimes, and been convicted of crime and these crimes are usually not merely stealing apples.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the career criminal that I label him, has been ID'ed and he is identical with a longtime friend of Marius, in his 30s, who has indeed now been convicted and sentenced to prison. (For drugs IIRC.)

"The son of a business executive"... I wonder, what that means. That he is not the con? Well, our Marius here is the son of a Crown Princess and surely future Queen and yet...

Yeah, drugs! I wonder what has happened to this loose end of the Marius saga.

The article says very clearly….
Ah, my translator didn't pick up the subheadings until I went back to grabbed them manually. (I was wondering if we were looking at the same article!) I still wouldn't draw any conclusions from that. They don't refer to the guy as a "known criminal" in the body of the article, so they may be referring to the fact that he is now a known criminal, since he's in jail.

You may well be right about who the guy is, but I still have to wonder why Se og Hor didn't name him. If he is "known" and has a criminal record, why not report his name? I'd think criminal histories are a matter of public record. The business about naming the guy's attorney but not naming him is odd.

That was an interesting detail. Apparently all of Marius's friends aren't Hell's Angels. I wonder if other names are going to come out.

Oh no, he is a known criminal, even before he went to prison. And the expression "known criminal" does mean a criminal with several convictions under his belt.
I don't know why Se & Hør doesn't mention his name.

And as for his ID, that is well known in Norway. A Norwegian paper made a feature article about Marius criminal associations. And this person was among them, with photo, blurred face though. Don't think it was Se&Hør, but the article can be found in this by now pretty long thread.

Isn't it time to put Marius away!? While committing some very serious acts, Marius has no importance despite being the son of the Crown Princess. IMO Marius at 27 y/o is a blight on the royal family. He is a complicated mess, a challenge for even the mental health community considering he has been in therapy for ? years and look at the current outcome. Hopefully he will soon be court mandated to jail or committed to a mental health facility or both. My condolences to the NRF to have had to put up with Marius all these years. Again, do we even know where he currently is??

I wouldn't agree about your definition of "known criminal." It can be someone who associates with a bad element, such as a gang member, or who has an arrest record (even without convictions).

But, it really doesn't matter. Marius isn't hanging around with too many upstanding people, if the reports over the past few months are accurate.

It's a sad situation. The longer it takes, the worse things look.

I believe it was this article that spoke about the known criminal ie kjent kriminell
The expression kjent kriminell does mean exactly what I have described in both Danish and Norwegian.
"When Marius was arrested by the police at the cabin, a known criminal immediately made direct contact with Mette-Marit on her secret private number."

"The person who called Crown Princess Mette-Marit is now in prison. Se og Hør has been in contact with the man's lawyer, Alexander Greaker, but we have not received an answer to our questions."

I find it so difficult to keep up with all these details there is so much to keep track of.

An interesting debate article in Aftenposten, a girl writes among other things:
"I have followed the case surrounding Marius Borg Høiby with great interest. (..) The royal family has a unique position and responsibility to use their platform to promote societal debates that can break taboos and create change. How can they choose to say so little, so vaguely, about an issue that affects so many?"

While I applaud the young girl for speaking out, the fact that Marius's case hasn't been adjudicated yet, the NRF and especially MM and Haakon are not comfortable speaking out about their own son/stepson. I would hope after Marius has been sentenced🤞 the royal family will be comfortable to speak openly and honestly.

I would hope, there won't be more public discussion about it. This should remain a privat matter, it behoves only to him and the people, who are involved.

This is ofcourse a very public matter… The norwegian people are not used to (and shouldn’t have to get used to) these things being normalized within their royal family…

Right now he is hopefully in rehab (that is the only explanation i can think about for there suddenly being no new scandals emerging) but at some point during this year, it will become a court case…. A very public court case…

Strongly disagree. That's how he got so awful. By everyone hiding his terrible behavior.
Media and police attention doesn’t seem to slow him down, so I doubt the lack of it mattered.

Paywall article at Aftenposten:
Photos, videos and over 60 people under questioning. This is the police's evidence against the Crown Princess's son
Phones, computers and storage services have been searched. The police have also secured photos, videos and telecommunications data from Marius.
For over five months, the Oslo police have been investigating the case against Marius. The investigation is now nearing its conclusion. New information to Aftenposten provides a unique insight into how the police have worked to build the criminal case against Marius.

Today Marius has his 28th birthday.

Nettavisen's Tove Taalesen's chronicle:
The Crown Princess's son has had a "hell of a year." Now he has a golden opportunity to show the world a different side.
On January 13, Marius Borg Høiby turns 28. "Little Marius" is no longer small, but a grown man approaching thirty. We don't know where he's celebrating his birthday. Maybe he's undergoing treatment in an unknown place abroad. Maybe he's celebrating his birthday in Skaugum...

I don't expect a couple of weeks of treatment in England (or wherever he was) to make a significant difference in his recovery.

As long as Marius is in Norway and out of jail, I am afraid he will relapse right away.

I agree.

According to Aftenposten's article several of Norway's leading influencers, among them Sophie Elise Isachsen (30), Anniken Englund Jørgensen (29), and Caroline Nitter (27) have been questioned in the criminal case against Marius. Editor-in-chief of the newspaper Subjekt, Danby Choi (32), friend of Marius and Nora Haukland, has also been questioned. The four profiles have all been questioned as witnesses in the case.
Oslo Police Press Officer Unni Grøndal tells that the police will not comment on the information.

The police believed that Marius had assaulted the woman in her 20s, and imposed a restraining order against her. This has now been lifted, according to the defence attorney.
– She never wanted a restraining order in the first place, so she is very happy that it has been lifted now, says the woman's lawyer Heidi Juritzen to VG.
Marius is charged with rape without intercourse against a woman in her 20s in Skaugum, which he denies. The woman's former lawyer Gunhild Vehusheia stated that the woman herself didn't experience being raped and that she wanted the authorities to reconsider the restraining order. (..)

In summer 2020, Juliane Snekkestad and Marius were with the royal family on the Royal Yacht in Lofoten. An episode at the trip is part of the police investigation. Juliane had problems with a sore hand. In interrogation she told that her hand was so painful that she needed medical attention, she also reportedly called a close relative and told about her hand, a conversation in which Marius was also involved. After this, a situation arose in the couple's cabin where Marius acted out. Eventually, Mette-Marit came to the cabin and stayed there until the situation had calmed down. (..)

The King and Queen, Haakon and Mette-Marit, Märtha Louise and her three daughters were on board the yacht, which was en route to Lofoten.

Nettavisen's royal expert Tove Taalesen continues to be surprised by the constant new aspects of the case. At the same time, she points out that it is advantageous for as much information as possible to be made public.
– I hope that everything related to these cases comes to light, and that all sides of the case are brought to light. But I am shocked that there are also incidents on the Royal Yacht where the entire royal family was present. Perhaps this shows a man who is not in control?

Marius Borg Høiby may be returning to Norway!
According to Se og Hør, Princess Mette-Marit's son arrived in Gardermoen last night and will remain in Norway for an indefinite period. The reason for this visit is unknown, as Marius was abroad undergoing treatment.
The article contains photos of Marius' arrival in Gardermoen.

Goodness, it sounds like the plot of a Scandi-noir take on Euphoria!

I hope Juliane stands firm. I think she has the benefit of having left the situation with an abuser, versus the other victim who seems to be too close as yet to the situation.

Yes, it must have been hard for Juliane.

At Aftenposten (most of the article is behind paywall):
Juliane Snekkestad's mother contacted Haakon directly. She wanted to report how Marius had treated her daughter. She is not the only one who has done so. Juliane's mother first spoke to Haakon on the phone about the problems her daughter was having with Marius. According to Aftenposten, she also offered Haakon in a text message to send him documentation of alleged violence against her daughter.

Nettavisen quotes the article, Juliane's lawyer Petter J. Grødem says Juliane's mother expressed despair over the situation her daughter was in. This concerned both practical matters in terms of the financial settlement between them as well as information about how Marius had treated Juliane. The contact is said to have occurred after the relationship ended. Documentation in picture format is also said to have been offered.

Grødem confirms that the documentation that supports Juliane's explanation to the police has been handed over - this applies to both photos and text messages.

As expected, the crown princely couple must have been at least somewhat aware of the seriousness of Marius' issues. Of course, they observed some things with their own eyes but in addition, also were informed by others. Unfortunately, they've not been able to find the necessary help - and chose to at least publicly diminish the issues he had.

This is pretty bad!
After a relationship lasting almost five years, you ought to know your "daughter-in-law" very well and it would also be odd if you didn't know her parents to some extent. Norway isn't that big.
Chances are the break-up didn't happen overnight, but that there would have been things leading up to the break-up.

So either
A) Haakon & MM had a terrible/non-existent relationship with Snekkestand and her parents for five years.
B) The break-up was so dramatic, that Haakon and MM were disinclined to believe Snekkestand and her parents, dismissing it as some kind of vengeance against Marius.
C) Haakon and MM went into total denial when confronted with this info about Marius.
D) Snekkestad is the villain here and she is lying shamelessly, wrongly accusing Marius of things he never did and wouldn't do towards her.
E) It's really down to a big unfortunate miscommunication - probably poor connection as well, combined with Haakon having soap in his ears during this telephone conversation, having rushed to answer the phone will showering.

- I remember clearly that Snekkestad had a personal conversation on the phone with MM, where she told MM about all this - and never heard anything from MM since. The economic grievances were fixed though.
It seems to me that after Juliane had been ignored for a while that her mother decided to call Haakon - and also seemingly got no other response than perhaps the economic issues being resolved.

This is how you can expect the family Flexnes from Narvik to behave, but not the CP-couple. If they had issues with Snekkestad, they should handle it through their lawyer.
There is IMO a limit to how normal a royal family can behave.

Wow! This story is going to make a great mini-series one day.

I have to wonder about the entire royal family at this point. Was this acceptable to the King and Queen? They must have known about commotion on the ship. Did Haakon and MM think this was a wholesome environment for their then-young teenagers? How bad was the situation that MM knew to go to the cabin and felt compelled to stay there?

My first thought about Snekkestad's injured hand was to wonder why she didn't seek first aid on the ship. I'd be surprised if the King doesn't travel with a doctor or at least some skilled medics. Did she not want the hand examined? Did Marius prevent her from getting medical attention? Why didn't MM call the doctor?

I'm a little perplexed about Snekkestad's mother getting involved, too. Her daughter is 29, not 19. It seems a little odd to have your mother call your ex's stepfather at that age. If there was some financial settlement involved, wouldn't lawyers have been better resources?

I'm also intrigued about what drives MM. Her alcoholic father was convicted for violence, and her addicted son has violent outbursts. Has any of it ever been aimed at her? Maybe she sees all this as normal, having grown up around it.
