The Oslo police and the Norwegian Police Directorate (POD) say they did not notify the Palace of the arrest of Marius.

PST: Did not notify of Marius' arrest
Mette-Marit notified her son that the police were on their way to arrest him. The Police Security Service (PST) tells this afternoon that the information didn't come from them. Director of communications in PST Trond Hugubakken to Dagbladet:
- After PST was informed by the Oslo police that Marius Borg Høiby had been involved in an incident on the night of 4 August, PST routinely notified the Royal Court for security reasons. In the dialogue with the Court, information was given about the incident, but no information was given from PST's side about a possible arrest.
The Palace stated that the police notified the Royal Court and "The Court then informed the CP couple about an incident involving Marius Borg Høiby". According to the Palace, they learned that it concerned a "possible arrest".
Dagbladet is further informed that the Oslo Police District didn't inform the Palace about the arrest itself - before they made direct contact with Høiby.

According to NRK's information:
Marius' phone was missing a SIM card and was partially destroyed. VG has also mentioned this.
Marius is said to have explained that the SIM card was in his phone earlier the same day but he doesn't know who took the SIM card out of his phone or where it is now.
Mette-Marit cleaned up the house before his arrest, VG wrote last week, also confirmed by NRK. Mette-Marit is said to have entered the son's residence at Skaugum before the arrest.
Marius has said that his mother started cleaning the house while he was in the shower. The reason was that it was very messy in there. Marius' lawyer doesn't want to comment and the Palace refer to their statement from Friday.

Se og Hør points out that Marius' statements in the interrogations are intended to draw Mette-Marit into the case. He denies that he has removed the SIM card himself, and during the half hour in question there are not many other options...
Se og Hør has asked the Palace a number of questions, including whether Mette-Marit witnessed Marius smashing the phone and possibly removing the SIM card, why Mette-Marit cleaned Marius' house before the arrest, and whether she removed anything from her son's residence. And if she removed drugs. They haven't got answers.

No one admits to having notified the court of the arrest
The Palace confirmed on Friday that the police notified the Royal Court, and the court then informed the CP couple about "an incident involving Marius and about a possible arrest".
VG asked the Palace whether they stand by the statement that it was the police who notified of a possible arrest, as the Oslo police district, POD and PST deny having given them the information. Press contact Sara Svanemyr wrote in an email that they have no further comments.

So now someone is lying? Miss Varpe, head of communications from the Royal Court says that royal Court was informed by the police.

This is all just one big circus!

So as I understand it, the local Oslo police did not warn the palace, but they did notify the top branch of the police POD (the acting police commissioner for all the regular police in Norway). The Oslo police did also notify the security detail of the security police PST (they work directly under the Ministry of Justice, even though they too is a police-organization) stationed at Skaugum.
POD routinely informed the Ministry of Justice, the PM's office (keep in mind the current PM is a personal friend of MM and Haakon) and the Ministry of Social Affairs (regarding families). - All three departments took that information ad notam. (As they of course should do.)
PST, the security police, did notify the palace and the CP-Couple, but no mentioning of a possible arrest was made.
The commissioner for POD, the top branch of the police, deny personally that POD told the palace or the CP-Couple.

- So if the Oslo police speaks the truth, and the head of POD speaks the truth, then someone within the PST, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Social Affairs or the PM's office either told the CP-couple off the record or leaked the information to the palace.
I'm not particularly surprised though. A lot of info and sometimes warnings are spread off the record or leaked. That's how it is in basically any big company. The state central administration basically being a big company.

But if there was no leak, then MM (we don't know about Haakon) learned from PST that the police came for Marius with the intention of seizing his phone, I speculate here, MM may have been under the impression that the police would go to Marius home, enter the home and take his phone and possible search his home as well. That IMO would be a logical assumption to make. In this scenario she may not have known, or even suspected that Marius would be arrested until she was told by Marius.
It all depends on how the Oslo Police notified the PST, and what was said in that notification.
So in that light the palace would be telling the truth: The Police, PST, told the palace.

I'm sorry for the their Majesties , but at some point MM & Haakon are going to have to cut the apron strings . Marius has gone on record stating that he , did indeed both physically and verbally abuse his then partner . I cannot comprehend , admittedly from a non Norwegian viewpoint , how this man is still free to roam the world . [ I accept that the other reports of domestic violence need to be fully investigated] ,even less how his mother who has been a vocal supporter in protecting victims of domestic violence , can be so public in her support of a grown man who has admitted to such crimes . Her public behaviour in this case has been a , and in the circumstance I do not use the phrase lightly " a slap in the face ", to women and men who have been victims of domestic violence . Yes she is his mother , but this is a man who needs to be taken to account . He has stated that he knew that his behaviour would not be reported because of his relationship with the NRF , unacceptable . Obviously I have no personal knowledge of the steps his immediate family may have taken in the past, to guide him on to a productive life , whatever they were ,they failed . There comes a time for each of us when we must face fact's , and grow up , both MM , and Marius need to do that . IMHO.

I know every person is born innocent, but at this rate Marius might turn to become the worst mistake MM has ever made. (..)

Yeah, my son is about to be arrested and his home searched, so the first concern on my mind would be to tidy up the place.
After all what would the nice police officers think if there was dust on the lamps and the bed wasn't made. The shame, the shame!

Marius is a grown adult and should be held accountable for his actions. And I can't believe I'm saying this, but, Durek is right, Marius has to want help himself.
Is Durek an unofficial spokesperson from Marius :p
Personally I wish he'd keep quiet on the matter or take a vow of silence!

Of course he knows what happened to the SIM. He had just been called on that same phone to arrange the arrest.
Was there anyone else in the house other than Marius and his mother? Mette-Marit and anyone else who was on the premises need to questioned, if the missing SIM card is even relevant. Were questions asked about how the phone got damaged?

So Mette-Marit quickly cleans, lest people think her son is a slob. Sorry but this is laughable. Evidence was being destroyed/hidden.
We have a Crown Princess who believes she is above the law.
And where was Haakon during this time?
Mette-Marit gets informed and rushes over to clean, did she call Haakon?
Was Haakon informed and he just buries his head? Does he know what happened to the sim card?

That's a good point, he could be trying to make her the guilty party because she has immunity. Hiding under mother's petticoats, some gangster

Say what you will about the yellow press, they have no scruples to be sure, but that includes digging more deeply into stories than more conservative/mainstream papers would feel comfortable with. Which means that they get to the nitty gritty of issues. The constant agitation by Se og Hør is good, otherwise I'm afraid the story would likely be hushed up by the powers that be.

Trying throwing your phone against a wall in a fit of rage. It will break and the SIM will pop out. (If it doesn’t break, ask a fit 20-something coked up man to throw it in a rage. Bet the SIM pops out then.)

My bet is Marius, who says he has anger issues, hurled the phone after the police called and said they were arresting him. He doesn’t strike me as a strategic thinker — nor does his mother — so I have a hard time picturing them carefully ditching the SIM card.

Besides, this is all a sideshow. The police need to move forward with the prosecution.

So much speculation, we will have to wait for the trial for the truth to come out. I think it was a big mistake for MM to go to his house and call the woman if that is true. As someone said you have to want to get better before anything will work for you.

With all due respect to Norway's laws , the police should have arrested Marius immediately whether he was on crown lands or not . With his known history , albeit covered up at MM's decree by the press etc , this is a farce of an investigation . Any sympathy I had for MM due to her illness has now gone , she , the NRF , and the "free " press . have covered up for the behaviour of this , self admitted , domestic abuser , alcoholic , drug addict for almost a decade , I do not absolve the police for their inaction . Perhaps if Marius and MM / the NRF had been publicly put in the position of facing his behaviour earlier , he might have taken a different path . We cannot say , hindsight is a wonderful thing . I absolutely 100% believe in the premise of innocent until proven guilty ,but by their own words both Marius and the press are guilty , as to MM / NRF well , inaction has its own effect , as does "cleaning " your 27yr old sons house before driving him to "chat" with the police .

So either the Palace is lying or the Police.
Someone alerted the Crown Princess. Friends in high places indeed.

And lets not forget the arrest was not about drugs but about Marius beating up to his girlfriend to the point she needed hospitalization. And Mette-Marit was concerned about a clean house, sure.

Mette-Marit should be arrested and interrogated. From all accounts- and certainly the word of her own son it definetely seems that Mette-Marit tampered with evidence.
Since we don't know that she did anything, and the police have not searched Marius' house looking for evidence, that would be a huge leap.

Since it has now been several months since the initial "chat" between Marius and the "investigating " officers I sincerely doubt that there would be any evidence to find , after all 30 minutes after communicating with the police Marius's phone was "damaged , and its sim card disappeared . However during their search of the hunting lodge he was staying in with "friends" after his Italian holiday allegedly substances were found . Yes MM has not been questioned formally , as I have stated "innocent until proven guilty ". Personally I hope that MM did nothing more than tidy up her 27yr old sons house , believing that the police might shortly search it , wanting to give the impression that a responsible adult lived there . Unfortunately, thanks to the press now going full on " mea culpa " due to having being caught out covering up Marius's various "escapades" MM and the NRF are now finding themselves dealing with the backlash .

Well it certainly sounds like Marius is throwing his mother under the bus (knowing she won't be questioned.)
Yes, the sim card was in my phone, I went to take a shower while my mother was cleaning and then the sim card is gone. I don't what happened!

We do know that that after being informed of the impending arrest that Mette-Marit went to Marius' house to "tidy up ". Marius himself is suggesting that the SIM card disappeared during his mother's time cleaning up. So yes, Mette-Marit needs to be interrogated about what happened to a crucial piece of evidence.

I agree that if it is "a crucial piece of evidence" then it needs to be pursued further but where is it indicated that this is a crucial piece of evidence?

In any way it is most unfortunate that MM has brought herself in a situation where there is a serious discussion as to whether she has actively obstructed a police investigation. Her previous behavior regarding Marius and the (cowardly IMO) statement by Marius basically sacrificing his mother hasn't exactly helped!
It is a situation that she given her position and experience should not put herself in.
Even if she did nothing but dusting shelves it will remain a serious damage to her reputation and that of the NRF. At best of her exercizing poor judgement.

What is her main prority? Marius?
Or her husband, the NRF and ultimately her daughter?
Because Marius it seems have no problems implicating his own, and terminally ill, mother.
What an admirable young man he is...

The worst thing MM did is that, by her actions, she put the NRF and Marius on conflictual positions.
As much as I can understand her instinct to protect and “help” Marius, I cannot understand how she didn’t think through it to the end where she is damaging her other children with her actions. Is she that stupid?
I remember when my boys were small and there were one or two occasions that I’ve been called at school by the principal for things that happened (using their phone during school recess). I was very careful to admonish the child in question in front of the principal, to pass the message that the problem is taken seriously by us, parents, too. So my child would be not labeled “problem”.

Which is the equivalent of my parents “don’t you even dare try to bring shame to our good name”.
