New photo of Prince Achileas-Andreas:

New photo of Prince Achileas-Andreas:
His hair is shaved and I thought they were announcing that he was enlisting.

New photo of Prince Achileas-Andreas:
Every so often when I see a picture of Achileas-Andreas, I see a resemblance to his grandfather King Constantine. There's something about the second picture that reminds me of Constantine. Pavlos's other kids look 100% MC's side.

Prince Konstantinos-Alexios will serve in the army in Greece, the revelation was made by a journalist on a Greek television program.

BRAVO!!!!!!!!

I remember saying on this forum when the family got their passport that he would join the army. His grandfather King Constantine would be very proud, and if he decided to join the fighting army, I think it was in northern Greece, King Constantine would be very proud of him.

Crown Prince Pavlos was asked about his son, Konstantinos - Alexios, who is preparing to serve his term in the Greek army.

"My son will join the army here in Greece. This will come at some point, as it does for every Greek. I am happy about it," confirmed Pavlos.

Hasn't the Prince had some previous military education in the past ,maybe I'm mixing him up with one of his brothers?

Wellington college ( I believe all brothers studied there, Prince Aristides is a current student) has a military tradition, but other than that, he has never attended a military academy. This is huge and I'm so very glad he is taking this step.

Yes its a big step for the Prince and I wish him well!
I wonder how fluent he is in Greek?

I had not realized he was 26 already. Best of luck to him

This is big news and as the future head of the house a commendable step to solidify his commitment to Greece. A great opportunity to get fluent in Greek as well...
I am not sure if Konstantinos - Alexios himself is very thrilled with the idea.

Honestly I don't see the point in any of that (becoming a Greek citizen, serving in the Greek army, etc.). Pavlos' sons were raised in England and the USA, barely speak Greek, and are culturally American. Greece is a republic now and is not likely to ever be a monarchy again. The Royal House itself is despised by many sections of Greek society.

Why impose such burdens on the new generation of the De Grèce family in name of what is effectively a lost cause?

He has been asked 2 days ago if he speaks and he answered A little.. in greek with accent.
Do you have a video link for this? I need to hear his "greek accent" lol

I guess his film directing career didn't take off. Joining the military is already a big endeavor, and for Constantine-Alexios it'll be even bigger because he'll be in a country not of his upbringing and immersed in a new language. He always came across to me as not having a clear direction in life. I honestly wish him the best, I know the military can teach good values like discipline.

Maybe he wants to do it? Many members of an ethnic diaspora maintain a strong affection for their native country even if they never lived there nor speak the language well.

Even though Greece is no longer a monarchy, Constantine Alexios will be the head of the Greek royal house and they must have thought it would be good for him to have some experience of military service.
He will thus follow the example of his cousins, Princess Leonor and Prince Christian.
But we also don't know how long his military training will last.

I think it's great that he is joining the Greek army. But how is it going to work if he only knows a little bit of Greek? Is he going to study Greek before joining the army?

I’m picturing him following the example of his cousins Felix and Nikolai on this endeavor. 🤣 🤣🤣

Andreas megos shared on Instagram the intention of the sons of the crown prince to do the obligatory military service in the Greek army forces!

The news of Andreas is not current, it was before the wedding, when it was published. The journalist Christos Zampounis, in MEGA TV (Greek) was who said that he had these intentions.
A day later, Then MEGA TV asked Prince Pavlos when he was walking down the street, and he replied that like every Greek he would do military service when he was called......Pavlos walking with Constantine Alexios, but he did not speak.

But this is not in my opinion a scoop or news, it is obvious that every Greek is obliged to do his military service. And I am sure that he will do it when the State will call him.

But, I do not like that the journalist is the one who determines the corp of the army that he must join. I do not like this, because the special corps require very hard training... Basing himself on his physical appearance to fit him into a section of the army, does not seem right to me on the part of the journalist.

He can be tall, athletic, and want to do his military service in navy ......... He has not spoken about it, he has not expressed himself on the matter, they cannot classify him for his physique in a corp of the army. This seems wrong to me on behalf of Christos Zampounis.

From his physical appearance Zampounis cannot decide his intentions him.
The special corps have a very hard training that prepares them for the attack. Constantine Alexios can choose the navy, or any other corps of the army.

I’m not sure how the wording translates and I understand military service is compulsory when you’re male, a citizen, of a certain age, and live in Greece… but C-A is not the last one, as far as we know. Is it possible Pavlos could have meant something like, “sure, his military service is theoretical” but not “yes, he is enlisting ASAP”? As others have mentioned, language might be an issue.

Prince Constantine-Alexios attended Wellington College in Berkshire, London, where he graduated in 2017. At Wellington College, he also received military education.

Constantine-Alexios' military training was over a weekend, they paraded and rode in a tank, over a weekend, and his mother, Marie Chantal took the photos, even the family published photos. These are days to get closer to the British army. That has little to do with military training. The photo is from Marie Chantal's Instagram. When did you see a mother in military training of his son taken photos?

I am not familiar with the "training" he had at Wellington College, but I would guess that is something akin to "Army Cadets", which is common in many UK secondary schools. A rough equivalent in US High Schools would be Junior ROTC.

The British Army certainly doesn't count that as training and these kids are definitely not considered trained soldiers in any sense. It is, however, useful to get in touch with military discipline and life in the Armed Forces.

Reading previous comments, I have noticed that the news is contradictory:

Constantine does not speak Greek, he may speak very basic Greek, but he asked the journalists to ask their questions in English at the entrance to the church the day before the wedding, in conclusion he does not speak Greek. The news says that he is thinking of doing military service in the Special Forces, this is true, the Special Forces require very hard training, and this is true, they prepare soldiers for combat... If you add to this the fact that Constantine does not speak Greek well, it is very difficult to believe that, in case of being called up to the army, he will join the Special Forces . Not knowing the language can be very dangerous, in this army section, where it is essential to know the language.

On the other hand, military service, according to what I read, is obligatory for all Greeks, those who live in Greece and abroad. I have read that language is not an impediment. . They are obviously assigned to army corps where language is not so important.
I believe that in Navy, language is also essential, but in the Evzones (the presidential guard), where, as I read in a Facebook comment, the minimum height required is 1.87 meters, it may be the corps to which they send a Greek over 1.87 meters who does not speak the language well.

They are trained for the guards in Syntagma Square, at the Presidential Palace... The Evzones have a great symbolic value.

The Evzones do not speak in their guards, they remain silent,
He would have to learn the steps of the Evzones, remain still without moving for hours, putting up with the tourists, and when the time for the change came, Constantine would have to stop as they do, slowly raising his leg up to the knee first... Many Evzones are young Greeks doing their military service.

Doing military service in the evzones is an honor for many Greeks, due to the symbolic value and representation of Greece that they have.

Finally, I would like to say that what the Evzones do requires a lot of training and perfection, it is not as easy as I have described, it is very complicated and doing it well is a great responsibility. But language can be so relevant .

Following the families acquisition of Greek citizenship last year this news is monumental for the family. Regarding the special forces, one wonders if the media was listing his interest rather than his actual place in the army given the language barrier. In any case, a king is not a king who says is a king but rather one who acts like one even in the face of exile from the throne.
