King Philippe will answer questions from Belgian citizens tomorrow at 6pm. 38 questions have been selected from 2,600 submissions. The Palace has just published a teaser. What is your best and saddest moment during your reign? Do you have real friends?

The King answers:

How proud I am to have a cultured, sensible King instead of a simpleton! Congratulations to the PR Team, this was absolutely wonderful. The video needed to be 2 hours long. I'm glad His Majesty showed us some of his paintings.
Dehandschutter has uploaded a lengthy summary on his X account for those who don't speak Dutch/French/German.

“My morning routine? I get up at 7am. I have breakfast with my wife, drink coffee and read the newspapers. Then I take 15 minutes to meditate, and then another 15 minutes to play the piano. Then I go to the palace. I see my staff and we start the day.”

Is Belgian King Philippe, 65, going to abdicate?

“I will continue to work for Belgium and I must give my daughter the time to enjoy her youth, to develop, to see the world. I support her 100% in this. And I will do everything I can to give her all the time she needs to do.”

I was also very moved when he talked about not having self-confidence when he was young.

Jeep and (mostly) Simba's special cameo

That is really a brilliant initiative. The King really seems to have instated a great communications team at the palace. How nobody else thought about this before! He seems a wonderful man indeed. It gave many lovely moments, but unfortunately for our members it is not subtitled in English.

There is a photo of Baudouin and Fabiola behind him. And another one of a group, perhaps his family or his parents with grandchildren. Quite surprising to see so many Flemish children but also some adults using the informal 'jij' instead of the formal 'u', while the Wallonians mostly stuck to 'vous'. In the Netherlands the formal form is slowly becoming less common, but I thought that in Flanders it was still used more often.

I loved his showing three of his paintings, and especially of course the one of Queen Mathilde reading a book. And he seems especially proud that one of the paintings was complimented by David Hockney.

They also asked what fact or year in history he attached great importance. He respons about his memories of 1989, the fall of the Berlin wall, and how he still regrets not having driven there that day to see the enthusiasm and hope of the people.

When asked if he had idols or heroes he refers to astronaut frank Borman, who he met a long time ago. And also to a chauffeur of his father. A man who tought him a lot, and who did a lot for him when he was a child.

As a favourite childhood memory, he refers to summer vacations with his Luxembourg cousins in the south of France, where nightime games were organised with flash lights etc, it always exited him a lot.

Even the two dogs were introduced, who listen to no-one, he joked. But his youngest daughter especially takes care of them.

A wonderfull Video. The King comes over very good and likeable and not stiff at all. Loved it when he was playing the Music on his iPhone

The video is wonderful!

It was interesting to see what kind questions came in mind of so many different people and it was interesting to hear the King's replies, but most importantly was the impression King Philippe has made.

And it was a great one - such a wonderful attitude: dignified, respectful, taking the questioners seriously, positively encouraging without being didactic, staying true to himself and his role instead of ingratiating himself. Charming and perfect - well done!

It was indeed a lovely idea and production - and they tried to be inclusive by including both a sign language speaker as well as a German speaker; next to the other questions in Flemish and French. The king still comes across as rather stiff but also as very friendly and willing to engage to a certain extent.

One of the answers that also stuck out to me was the one about the tasks of the king, when he explained that he doesn't like the word 'neutral' as he is not a 'neutral person' and has his own ideas but that he sees it has his duty to listen to other people who might have very different points of view.

And if you ever have the king over for dinner, don't serve Octopus as he prefers not to eat it since he watched the movie 'My Octopus teacher' but do put 'Dire Straits' on as background music...

It was possible to ask questions to the King. One was HM do you have a Regret , and He said one and for always . Not to have taken my car on 9 November 1989 and going to Berlin to see the the Berlin Wall fallen.

I did not know he was so close with his Cousins of Luxembourg.
Having his parents not at home Grand Duchess Joséphine Charlotte invited his Brother Children when they were in their South of Frace Residence.

We have often seen his cousins Marie Astrid/Margaretha at events in Belgium so there is some form of family bond .

Queen Fabiola really loved Princess Margaretha and sadly She lost her first Child in Belgium.

They are super close. To the point that Guillaume and Sybilla's son Leopold lived in Laeken for a while.

How, if so, is Christine Boël related to Delphine's stepfather?

Apparently, she was known for her work in the Arts: In memoriam Madame Christine Boël

An article in French about the close relationship between the royal family and this couple. It seems on both sides (Schumann and Boël) there are long lasting bonds.

For the third year in a row, on the eve of the national holiday, Het Laatste Nieuws, together with VTM NIEUWS and RTL, conducted a survey on public appreciation for the royal family. King Philippe has been on the throne for twelve years now, and the Belgians give him a score of 6.9. This means his rating has risen again – last year he received a 6.6 and the year before 5.9.

Queen Mathilde, scored 7, and their daughter, Crown Princess Elisabeth, scored 7.1. It's also striking that young people's appreciation for the royal family is rising. Last year, 65 percent of young people had a positive view of Elisabeth. This year, that figure is 76 percent.

It's a good survey of the Royal Family and the monarchy. The Royal Family seems to be popular, even among young people.

King Philippe and Prince Emmanuel were out on their bikes on the occasion of Car-Free Sunday in Brussels today, September 21:

A very lovely set of photos of mother and daughter shared by the Palace today:

Queen Mathilde visited Princess Elisabeth in Boston last week:

A quick detour to Boston before the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York...The Queen took advantage of her trip to New York last week to meet Princess Elisabeth on the @harvard campus. 🤍👋

The King received the officer cadets of the royal military academy who were sworn in on Tuesday. Among them, Prince Gabriel!
Baccalaureate: done. ✅ Time for the Master's degree! 👏

King Philippe called the parents of a Belgian soldier to express his condolences.
Danfo Van Der Velden had died during an exercise in Lithuania.

He also met yesterday with Lieutenant-Colonel Debersaques, commander of the artillery battalion to which the young soldier belonged. Our thoughts go to the family of the first soldier Van Der Velden, to his loved ones, and to his comrades-in-arms.

This year's Christmas card.
