🇧🇪🇱🇺 Between Hamm and Bastogne, the Grand Ducal Couple invited the Belgian Royal Couple to the Grand Ducal Palace for a private lunch.

An Belgian I have to write what a I saw on TV yesterday Evening about the terrible Bataille des Ardennes at Christmas 1944. It lasted two monts and during years they did not want to celebrate Christmas. They lost all.
The then Children children spoke , they were in the 80 and beginning nineties. What they suffered as Child from the Battle from Germany against the USA, I will never forget it . In ten years they will not be there .Their parents, grand parents never spoke about it to their Children to preserve them , but spoke at the end of their lifes . It was snowing 25 cm, was so cold. I hope some of them spoke about it with our King. commemorations days and people from everwhere , the NUTS of Mc Auliffe was a never. The Belgians could not speak with them as they did not know english.

I can very well understand your emotions, Maria-Olivia. The battle in the Ardennes was incredibly awful, one of the most cruel events in that war. So good for those that had to endure this and are still living. So thoughtful of your King and Queen to remember and visiting those who are still alive.

We still have survivors of the holocaust in Germany, who fortunately are still living, writing down their memories, going to schools to tell our young people what terrible things have happened in the war. That is very important and much supported here. Because: We Should Never Forget! Never ever such an awful thing should happen.
But I am also glad that we have overcome all that in the last 80 years, founded the EU , made friends again with former enemies. It is important to make peace again.
That is why I am so very unhappy what is presently happening in Europe (Ukraine) and other parts of the world.

It is time to close this thread. You can find the new one HERE.
