King Frederik X, Current Events Part 1: January 2024 -

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
King Frederik received the Ambassadors of Argentina, Spain, Nepal and Thailand at Christiansborg Palace this morning, April 8:

The Throne Room at Christiansborg Palace today formed the setting for the reception of new ambassadors, who presented their credentials to His Majesty the King ✉️The ceremony took place at Christiansborg, as the Grand Staircase in Christian VII's Palace at Amalienborg is currently undergoing renovation and restoration. The ambassadors arrived at the palace in a carriage from Amalienborg, accompanied by the Guard Hussar Regiment's Horse Corso.

Apparently the stairs at Christians VII. Palace at Amalienborg gets renovated this is why it took place at Christiansborg this time

Nice ceremony/event for the new ambassadors

the guard uniforms are one of my favorites but nothing like Frederik's naval uniform

Two more photos of Frederik were added to the mediabank from meeting the ambassadors (#6 and 7)

Excellent in this uniform

Great photos! Also nice treat for people to see all the carriages with the ambassadors.

On Monday, April 28, King Frederik X will travel to Greenland in the company of the President of the Government of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen.

According to the calendar the visit will be from April 28 through May 2.

Very important visit and I'm sure he will receive a warm welcome.

I was wondering when the King would make a visit to Greenland. This is about exerting some soft power and soft diplomacy. Plus, the optics this visit will provide to the rest of the world. And given the current situation, this visit will make international news and get attention. This is what you call "statesman" things.

That's a long visit!

The reception will be in interesting contrast to the reception a certain VP's wife would likely have got.
Politically it's also a presentation of the new government but also the new municipal politicians who have been elected.

Agree.
That they will be meeting first in Denmark and then traveling with the new President to Greenland is an important point.

Wednesday, April 30
Visit to the University of Greenland, Ilisimatusarfik 8:30 a.m.

The King will visit the University of Greenland, Ilisimatusarfik, where the King will meet students at SILA. This program aims to educate future generations in responsible management of biodiversity, in understanding climate change and in the special relationships between people and nature that characterize Greenland and the Arctic.

Visit to Station North
Station North is the northernmost manned station in Greenland. The King visits the station together with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Troels Lund Poulsen.

The station was built in 1952 as a weather station, telecommunications station and emergency landing site. It was closed in 1972, but was re-established as a military station in 1975. The area includes several buildings and a runway, which is maintained year-round by five specialists from the Danish Armed Forces.

The program for the visit to Station Nord is published by the Ministry of Defense.

From Thursday, May 1st onwards, the King will be on his way with the Sled Patrol Sirius.

Quite the nice program for the King in Greenland. This is obviously carrying out multiple purposes, including meeting new Greenlandic government and the optics of the warm and enthusiastic reception he is sure to receive to contrast with the fallout from the visit by vance and also the contrived visit by don jr and his ilk prior to that.

The weather station at Station Nord is indeed manned the year round by a five man crew, but during the summer months visitors come there as well. Mainly scientists and service personnel to repair and maintain things.
But if you fly across the North Pole your plane, an plane, will almost certainly rely on information from this weather station. Because the weather changes so suddenly in the Arctic and so does the jet-stream. That's serious money for the airlines in saved fuel, if your plane can make use of a favorable jet-stream or avoid an oncoming storm.
So this weather station is one of those unknown weather stations around the world that is actually vital for passenger routes. Because there are still a number of things satellites can't do as well as a ground based weather station.
So the next time you fly across the North Pole, if it's announced after having passed the North Pole that you will arrive ahead of schedule, chances are that you pilot changed course to take advantage of a jet-stream, based on info from Station Nord.
But if your plane is delayed, and you otherwise don't experience turbulence, chances are that you pilot changed course to avoid bad weather.

Thanks Muhler. Frederik with the minister of defense will be helping celebrate some important anniversaries.

"The occasion for the trip is that the Sirius Patrol, the Kingdom's Arctic Special Operations Force, is marking 75 years since the force was established. Sirius performs a number of important tasks in areas of the Northeast Greenland National Park and under harsh conditions. At the same time, it is 50 years since Station North, the northernmost inhabited station in Greenland, was established as a military station."

Prior to departing for his visit to Greenland later today, King Frederik met the President of the Greenlandic Parliament Jens-Frederik Nielse at Frederik VIII's Palace, Amalienborg this afternoon, April 28:

In the morning King Frederik had held a public audience:

The trip may be postponed.
There is bad weather coming in at Nuuk in Greenland and other flights have already been cancelled.
But the weather tomorrow should be fine.
Per BB the flight today for both the King and PM has been postponed until tomorrow morning due to weather conditions.

From the link above:
"But there are also some items on the program, besides these somewhat pleasant ones, that are of a different caliber," adds Fie West.
Because there is also a "more military part of the visit."
In addition to a visit to the sustainability education program SILA at the University of Greenland, King Frederik will also visit the military defense station Station Nord and spend two days with the Sirius Patrol.
And especially here with the Greenlandic sled patrol, with which King Frederik has previously been on expeditions, there are points to be gained for the Danish king.

"It's a really strong brand for him. It inspires respect that he's been part of that patrol. So it's a nice little nod to that past," says BT's editor."

Per Billed Bladet,
"King Frederik was due to land in Nuuk on Monday evening, according to the royal family's calendar.
However, the item is now marked as cancelled.
However, it appears that the king will instead land on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. local time. "

The calendar for tomorrow is now updated.

Nice photos from the public audience. A great tradition that the monarch can meet with all Danes.

"It inspires respect that he's been part of that patrol."
I agree. What better connection to Greenland. 4 months in a very tough environment.

Another photo from the meeting with the president. The painting behind them was a a wedding gift from Greenland.

Per the DRF calendar, the visit to Station Noord and Sirius Patrol will no longer be taking place. The visit to Greenland University on April 30th is now the last engagement of the trip. No reason was given in the BB article about the changes.

That's disappointing.

King Frederik has denied that he is on a (political) mission to Greenland.

And indeed he may not have a specific agenda, but otherwise he is very much on a mission to Greenland. Cementing the relationship between DK and Greenland, emphasizing the relationship between himself in particular and the DRF in general in regards to Greenland, showing the flag (to the Americans), establishing a personal relationship between himself and especially the new Greenlandic politicians, and being a kind of rallying point for many Greenlanders by his person.

Changes in the calendar due to the bad weather but what a nice start so far.

From the DRF

I agree. And the President of Greenland has some nice words on this visit

"- I have always been able to sense that the King has a very special relationship with Greenland, and you can sense that it is completely sincere. And it has been like that for many years – also for Her Majesty Queen Margrethe.
- So their love for our country cannot be questioned, and that is why I am pleased to be able to invite him, says Jens-Frederik Nielsen."

Some nice videos can be found here.

"Great interest in the king's coffee mic: - A visit means everything, says guest
Katuaq is packed to the brim on Tuesday, when citizens can come to a coffee meeting with the king. - I hope that the world can understand where we belong and what we want. We want to be connected with Denmark and Europe, says one of the citizens present at the coffee meeting."

Important to hear what Greenlanders have to say!

Taking part in the traditions. kaffemik

Are they going to show these images on Foxnews I wonder? Or will that be censored away as per direction from the Ministry of Propaganda?

This is exactly why King Frederik went to Greenland. To mix with ordinary Greenlanders, who welcome him and are genuinely pleased to see him.
Not that it matters to the members of a certain administration. According to the head of said administration Greenland is a piece of real estate and the Greenlanders are tenants. - Who can be evicted...

A kaffemik is, I believe, a kind of pidgin-Danish. The Danish word is kaffebord = Coffee-table. But kaffemik has a much deeper meaning. It's a social communal gettogether. Where most people in a hamlet/village or neighborhood meet and chat and gossip about this and that. It's a way of bringing the community closer together and also at times to more or less informally discuss matters of importance to the community.
And in the case with King Frederik, a way for the community to include their guest among them. And as you can tell people can and will approach King Frederik to tell him something, like an anecdote or say just hi or it's a do you remember when you visited Nuuk townhall back in 1998, I was the one who stood in the background next to the pillar. You get my meaning? Very informal.
The concept of a kaffemik has by and large gone out of use in Denmark. Simply because the population is much larger and more mobile. There are simply many more options for meeting people, than if you live in a hamlet 200 km from the nearest town.
By and large, that is. Because most villages in DK has a communal hall and it's very common to meet there to discuss local matters. It happens from time to time in the village we live in. And often coffee is served.
Beforehand a local kaffemik was a part of the local cultural scene, because coffee and cake/cookies were served at every single social gathering for adults, especially on weekends after church and elderly and especially elderly ladies were notorious for attending christenings, confirmations, funerals and weddings (there is even a word for it: globryllup = wedding-gawking) knowing perfectly well that it was tradition to serve coffee for those who had been at the church. So they got coffee and cookies, some entertainment to discuss in detail later and an opportunity to gossip while passing time. That was very common well into the 1970s in rural DK.
And while it was mostly elderly ladies who went to church - and coffee. The elderly menfolk gathered either outside the local grocer or in the backroom, if the weather was bad, pouring down beer and schnapps. Observing, listening and commenting on everything and everybody while gossiping and taking care of world-politics and ogling the young girls. There is even a saying about this phenomenon, that was common also well into the 1970s. To emphasize that a piece of gossip must be true you say: They say so down at the grocers! (Always said in dialect.)

It's something akin to this, that King Frederik took part in today, albeit with the whole village/neighborhood old and young.

Well, that ended up as a bit of rambling. I hope you understood it though. I suppose you have to experience it to really get what I mean.

Very disappointing that the visits to Station Noord and Sirius Patrol were affected by the weather. I am sure he was looking forward to them, especially visiting the Sirius Patrol. I wonder if some impromptu activities will be added instead or if will just be a 2 day visit.

I agree. And the President of Greenland has some nice words on this visit

Lovely words about the King's relationship with Greenland. He's stated many times how connected he feels to Greenland and the Greenlandic people. Even with the shortened trip, it is still important to show how the King is greeted by the residents, the new government, etc. The optics of the reception and any comments by the politicians and residents will make an impact and show a clear difference optically.

Amazing photos showing the enthusiastic and warm welcome King Frederik received from the residents. And the smile on his face shows that the love they feel for him is reciprocated just as much!

Interview with 2 sisters with lovely things to say about King Frederik

The new PM on the King's visit and how he's been looking forward to it and a mention of the strong connection between Greenland and the Royal Family. Greenland is getting its point across clearly.

The message is getting across and not only from the DRF but by the Greenlanders themselves.

"- It went exactly as it usually does – by the book. Because the king is so down to earth, we treat him accordingly. That's probably how he would prefer it, she says.
...
For her, the most important thing was that the outside world see how much King Frederik is loved.
- I think it's so important and wonderful for both Denmark and Greenland that the world can see that we care about him a lot. The whole world knows Greenland now. So now they can see that we belong to Denmark and to Europe."

Dinner tonight

Thank you @Muhler for your very insightful post on the traditional kaffemik. I think the community aspect is highlighted in these pictures.

The Palace shared some more photos from yesterday

The weather was at its finest as His Majesty The King experienced Greenland’s magnificent nature during an excursion into the backcountry of Nuuk yesterday.

At the invitation of the Premier of Naalakkersuisut, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the journey went through rugged terrain by snowmobile and UTV.

Along the way, The King enjoyed views of mountains, valleys, and the well-known Sermitsiaq mountain.
