King Carl XVI Gustaf's Birthday - April 30: 2003-2005, 2008-2015, 2017-2025

Although it may very well be edited, watching the SPA video, Oscar seems just fine, compared to what the Fail would have you think.

Little Julian also seems to have inherited the King's face, even though seeing him as the last waving straggler was adorable.

I really liked how, while watching the parade for the king, the family very much was a family and not just two separate 'cores' standing next to each other. Alexander standing with Daniel (and Daniel even putting his hands in front of A's mouth), Gabriel chatting away to his grandmother, cousin Estelle and mother and Estelle interacting with her aunt Sofia.

On Tuesday, April 30, H.M. The King's birthday is celebrated at the Outer Courtyard of the Royal Palace.
11.15 The Royal Swedish Navy Band marches in and performs music program
11.40 The Army Music Corps marches in.
11.45 The King comes out from the Western Vault to meet the Royal Guards from the Jämtland Ranger Corps, I21. The Army Music Corps plays a parade march. Then the King goes to the Royal Guards' wing to the commandant's reception.

12.18 The King comes out on the Outer Courtyard
12.20 The Royal Guards from the Life Guard come in with The Life Guards' Dragoon Music Corps.

Today H.M. The King is 78 years old.
The King was born at Haga Palace on 30 April 1946.
The King's birthday is a public flag day. The birthday is also official salute day in the Armed Forces, which fires salutes from the country's salute stations at 12.00 today.

Svensk Damtidning:
We have good news: The grandchildren have a little gift coming and they will be at the Palace to celebrate.
- Yes, there are plans for that, says Margareta Thorgren.

The King will make an entrance to meet the people's tributes and receive flowers from the children.
- That's how it has always been, says Margareta Thorgren.
On the balcony above the western vault, the members of the royal family will show up for the day.
Thorgren tells that there will be a private celebration in the afternoon and evening, but doesn'r reveal more.

Nice to see all children. It seems that it's quite warm since Victoria took her coat off.

Finally! Is it due to Victoria's recent military education?

The Crown Princess looks very dashing in her uniform.

The Prince Family seems to occupy the center of the balcony this year, but that doesn't seem to have been the case last year, so perhaps it is to show off newborn Princess Ines.

Here are a few more photos from the Royal Palace courtyard and balcony apperance.

What a pity that we couldn't really see little Ines.

Here's another set of photos:

Yes, Victoria is an officer now.

Information officer Ulrika Näsholm:
– The Armed Forces' celebration of H.M. The King has a long tradition and the King appreciates the celebration very much, to meet the public and children who hand over flowers. The King celebrates the rest of the day privately with his family.

Johan Tegel, the deputy director of the information department, told to Svensk Damtidning that Julian was sick and couldn't attend.

And from the Palace:

The Royal Court published also a photo of the flowers the King got from the children
"A big thank you to all the children who greeted the King with flowers today!"

And the Armed Forces published a video, in which they point out that Victoria participated for the first time in this military event.

Great photos here, among them great photos of Victoria at her uniform:
And more:

Aftonbladet's royal expert Jenny Alexandersson writes about the birthday that when the world trembles under the threat of war, conflicts and economic uncertainty, it is nice that at least some things are just as usual.
Behind the King, Victoria and Carl Philip formed a secure wall. Victoria wore the navy's strict uniform. She saluted as if she had never done anything else. The fact that she stood in the courtyard with her father for the first time on her birthday is very symbolic. Now she is an officer and thus one step closer to the role of Head of State and the main representative of the Armed Forces. One day she will be the one who will stand on the blue raised box and hear the salute echo away towards Skeppsholmen.
Next year, it will be more spectacular. The King is turning 80 and it will be celebrated for several days. At the same time, the King and Queen are celebrating 50 years of marriage, something that will also be noted.

Nicolas has really gotten tall since last time we saw him! Sorry ... but, I just don't like Victoria in that uniform. She looks way too severe. JMHO

Yes, Victoria looks very dashing - and cool:

Here is one good photo from the balcony, where we can see Victoria too. A pity that she was so behind at most of the photos when they arrived from the courtyard to the balcony:
