With cheering honor guard from the Life Battalion at the Life Guards as well as musicians from The Royal Swedish Army Band, the Swedish Armed Forces sent today a digital birthday greeting to the King.
Court website:
HM The King's 74th birthday
Today, April 30, the King is 74 years old. The King and Queen celebrate this birthday privately at Stenhammar castle in Södermanland.
The Armed Forces' traditional celebration of the King at the Royal Palace's Outer Courtyard has been suspended this year due to the covid-19 pandemic.
However, the commandant General in Stockholm, Admiral Jan Thörnqvist, sent a digital greeting to the King from the Swedish Armed Forces this morning. From the Royal Palace's Inner Courtyard, an honor guard from Livskadron cheered for the King. Parts of The Royal Swedish Army Band, led by music director Andreas Hanson, also performed The King's Song, followed by Marcia Carolus Rex, which is always played on the King's birthday.
In addition to being a public flag day, the King's birthday is also one of the Armed Forces' salute days.
Salutes of 21 shots are therefore fired at 12.00 from the salute stations at Skeppsholmen in Stockholm, Kungshall in Karlskrona, Skansen Lejonet in Gothenburg, Kusthöjden in Härnösand and from a volatile salutation battery at Kvarnängen in Boden.

H.M. The King's birthday is a national salute day and the Armed Forces therefore earlier today saluted about 21 shots from the salute stations at Skeppsholmen in Stockholm, Skansen Lejonet in Gothenburg, Kungshall in Karlskrona, Kusthöjden in Härnösand and from a volatile salutation battery at Kvarnängen.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These photographs come from Karlskrona where an "officers salute" is run by officers from the Basskyddskompaniet at @Marinbasen.
In the beginning, salutes were a way for warships to show their peaceful intentions by emptying their cannons on shots before entering a foreign port. Today, salutes are shot at certain royal and national holidays, to greet foreign heads of state and at certain foreign naval visits to Sweden.

King Carl Gustaf's Walpurgis Night greeting from Stenhammar Castle at court Youtube.
The king thanks the Armed Forces for a great birthday greeting. Unfortunately due to the circumstances and the difficult time in Sweden right now there couldn't be held a normal guard change ceremony at the Royal Palace, but this was a fine greeting which the king appreciated very much. The king says: But at the same time we should not forget the people who are really struggling, struggling with themselves and with their life in many places and many hospitals in Sweden, and their relatives, who can't be with them. That is perhaps the most difficult thing. But then there is also the fantastic healthcare personnel, who work tirelessly 24 hours a day, and has done so for quite many weeks. And probably they know that they must do so for many weeks still. They are fantastic people and we must think about what they are doing and facilitate them so that there will not be more people who need the heavy and tiresome healthcare which they are doing. We take care of eachother and don't have too crowded meetings and family meetings. Then I think we can get through this and still have the possibility to celebrate the Walpurgis Night. But think and be careful, and think about your own health and future. And above all: your fellow human beings.
