The Royal Court tells at its website that the King travelled to Tokyo yesterday by high-speed train Shinkansen.
In Tokyo, The King visited the residence of the Swedish Ambassador and participated in a luncheon on the theme of Swedish-Japanese strategic cooperation in innovation and technology.
The King met also the embassy staff and the Swedish colony in Tokyo at a reception at Hotel Okura.
In the evening, The King attended a dinner with Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace.


Today:
Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf have attended a seminar in Tokyo on the importance of water in tackling climate change.
The Swedish Embassy and a Stockholm-based water research institute co-hosted the event at the UN University Headquarters in Tokyo on Friday.
 
King Carl Gustaf awarded today the Royal Academies' Bernadotte Scholarships at the Bernadotte Library.

The Royal Court:
On the occasion of the King's 70th birthday in 2016, five of the Royal Academies established the so-called Bernadotte Programme. The aim of the programme is to offer further education through scholarships to researchers and younger artistic practitioners.
 
King Carl Gustaf visits today the Swedish battalion at NATO's multinational brigade at Adaži Military Base in Kadaga, Latvia.
Since January, around 550 people from the South Scanian Regiment, P7, have been on site at the brigade, where 14 different NATO countries are represented.
President Edgars Rinkēvičs met the King at the Military Base:

President Edgars Rinkēvičs welcomed King Carl Gustaf to Riga Castle, the residence of the President. They are having lunch.

The Royal Court:
At the Ādaži base, the King was welcomed by President Edgars Rinkēvičs. At a welcoming ceremony, the King and President Rinkēvičs inspected an honor guard from the multilateral division.
They received a briefing on the activities from NATO Division Commander, Major General Jette Albinus.
The King and the delegation then visited the Swedish battalion at Camp Valdemar. In connection with a battalion formation at Flaggplan, the King gave a speech.
Then the King traveled to the Swedish Embassy in Riga and met with the embassy staff.
The King's visit to Latvia ended with a lunch with the President at Riga Castle.
 
King Carl Gustaf attended today Linköping University's 50th anniversary celebration.

The King's speech, he said among other things:
"I was actually there at the inauguration in 1975. Among other things, I said: “Here, nearly 6,000 people will work in a modern environment for the science of the future.”
Since then, the number of students and employees has grown to as many as 50,000. Generations of students have been educated and groundbreaking research has been conducted. Linköping University is proof of what courage, curiosity and free thinking can achieve in just 50 years."

The King's speech


On 27 May, the King presented new flags to the respective headquarters of the central, northern, southern and western military regions. The ceremony took place in the inner courtyard of the Royal Palace.
 
King Carl Gustaf gave today farewell audiences to Saudi Arabia's Ambassador Enass Alshahwan, Panama's Ambassador Andres Sanchez and Albania's Ambassador Albana Dautllari.

The King met the Speaker of the Riksdag, Andreas Norlén, who told about current issues in the Riksdag.
 
The King presented The King’s Foundation Young Leadership's (Konungens Stiftelse Ungt Ledarskap) Compass Rose -scholarships and diplomas today at the Bernadotte Library.
The Foundation was established in 2006 in conjunction with the King’s 60th birthday. The initiative for the foundation came from the Guides and Scouts of Sweden. The King is the Honorary Chairman and works through the foundation to unite, recognize, and encourage young value-based leaders.

The King met yesterday at the Royal Palace Peter Norman, the government's investigator of the infrastructure to and from Arlanda.
 
The King gave today farewell audiences to ambassadors at the Royal Palace prior to the envoys' return from Sweden. The Queen also attended the farewell audiences for the ambassadors from Denmark and Germany.
The ambassadors who are now leaving Sweden are the Czech Ambassador Anita Grmelová, the German Ambassadors Joachim Bertele and Christina Beinhoff, the Danish Ambassador Kristina Miskowiak Beckvard and the Latvian Ambassador Ilse Ruse.
 
The King received today received four new ambassadors in formal audiences at the Royal Palace.
The foreign envoys whom the King received in formal audience were:
Abdikarim Ahmed Mohamed, Federal Republic of Somalia
Mobhare Holmes Matinyi, United Republic of Tanzania
Karolina Ostrzyniewska, Republic of Poland

On June 12, the King awarded scholarships from King Carl XVI Gustaf's 50th Anniversary Fund for Science, Technology and the Environment to twelve researchers.
 
On June 16, The King attended the Swedish Security Forum 25, where invited participants discussed international security and defence.

The Royal House at its Instagram:
Tomorrow, the King will visit Kiruna to attend the historic move of the city's church.
The church, which weighs over 600 tons and is 24 meters wide, will be moved 5 kilometers over two days, from the old city center to the city's new center.
The altarpiece, painted by Prince Eugen in 1912, will remain in the church during the move.
Kiruna Church was designed by architect Gustav Wickman and inaugurated in 1912. Today, the church is one of Sweden's largest wooden buildings.
The church is being moved as part of Kiruna's urban transformation, which is being carried out due to the mining under the city.
SVT will broadcast "The Great Church Move" live on August 19–20.

The County Administrative Board of Norrbotten County:
HM the King, together with County Governor Lotta Finstorp, will attend the relocation of Kiruna Church, which is a world-unique event and will take place over two days between August 19–20.
They will be given a tour of the New Kiruna city center. In addition, the group will hear the municipality's and LKAB's forecasts, as well as a presentation of Talga - strategic mineral and sustainable development.
HM The King and the Governor will attend the church service before the moving of the church begins and then follow its movement along the route.

The Kiruna Church is on the move again. The move on the second day should have started at 8.00, but all the checks took time and the move started about 30 minutes late.

At 13:00 the King and the County Governor attend a church service on Svarta Björns gata in the new city center. Afterwards (13:30), a world record attempt in church coffee will be held, with the King taking the first cup.
Between 15:00 and 17:00, possibly before 15:00, the church is expected to reach its new address. The King will visit its final destination.
At 18:00 Carola performs on the main stage at Stadshustorget.

King Carl Gustaf gave an interview to SVT.
He was impressed:
– It shows that you want something more and to ensure that this community will live on.
The King has visited the church several times during his trips to Kiruna.
– I have been up here at times for over 50 years. I think this church represents something very special.
The move was paid for by LKAB, which saw it as necessary for future mining in Kiruna.
– I heard this morning that with the move, a lot more ore deposits have been found and that we will be able to operate this mine for many, many more years than we thought 30-40 years ago.

Today, H.M. The King, together with County Governor Lotta Finstorp, attended the move of Kiruna Church. During the day, they participated in a church service held in a Lavvu Church next to the church's new location, where Municipal Councilor Mats Taaveniku also participated. Afterwards, H.M. The King and the County Governor visited Kiruna City Hall, where Mats Taaveniku received the party.

Over the course of two days, Kiruna Church, Sweden's most beautiful building, was moved to its new location between the cemetery and the city's new center. The 672-ton church was transported five kilometers on a specially adapted road, and the move became a world-class event that attracted thousands of spectators.
 
The overall story is quite interesting.




 
King Carl Gustaf met yesterday general Michael Claesson, the Chief of Defence of the Swedish Armed Forces, who leads the activities of the Armed Forces, both nationally and internationally. The King is kept continuously informed of activities and developments regarding Sweden's security and defence.

The King gave today a farewell audience to Ambassador Georges de La Roche Du Ronzet Plihal from Guatemala.

The King got today also the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' presentation ahead his visit to NATO and Sweden's permanent representation to NATO on October 1.

According to the calendar the King visits today NATO and Sweden's permanent representation to NATO in Brussels and Mons, Belgium.

The flags were up – but there was no King Carl XVI Gustaf at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Wednesday morning. Dense fog over Belgium made it impossible to land in Brussels, which ultimately meant that the entire visit to meet Secretary General Mark Rutte was canceled, NATO officials announced.

The Royal House:
On Wednesday, 1 October, The King and Minister for Defence Pål Jonson visited NATO Headquarters in Brussels and NATO’s Strategic Military Headquarters (SHAPE) in Mons.
The visit began at SHAPE (Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe) in the city of Mons. There, The King was welcomed by NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander (SACEUR) General Alexus G. Grynkewich and representatives from all 32 NATO member states. After a private meeting between SACEUR and The King, they both participated together with the Minister of Defence in a meeting with the SACEUR leadership team.
After lunch, The King went to NATO Headquarters in Brussels where Secretary General Mark Rutte welcomed him and invited him to a meeting.

The King presented the Scholarships for "The Thinking Hand" -competition at the Royal Palace.

The Royal House:
The Thinking Hand – H.M. The King’s Scholarship Competition for Young Draftspeople is a recurring drawing competition and exhibition for young draftspeople who work with visual design in art, architecture, fashion, design, illustration, game development or other related fields.
This year’s scholarship recipients: Nils Ekman, Rebecka Tollens and Isak Smedfors Heldt were announced and received their scholarships from the King during a ceremony in Gustav III’s Museum of Antiquities.
