Jewels for sale: Worthy additions to royal collections, Part 2

If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.

This one is very beautiful. I can imagine it on Eleanore. BTW much more reasonable price as well.

Another one from same auction. Quite sure the opal toppers are later additions and they don't look well. Let go of them it could be much better. And the toppers can be remade as some earrings or necklace. The Belgians should consider it 😆

Btw also from same auction, another sets on opal pendants, really delicious. 😍

Lovely. Yes, it could be put to good use by either of Mathilde or Mary for their children.

Agreed. The tiara could be altered to have the opal toppers removable, and possibly replaced with pearls to create a really versatile tiara.

Suite of opal and diamond pendants, circa 1900 | Royal & Noble Jewels | 2024 | Sotheby's

The opal pendant suite is a useful addition as well, and could be a attached to a "minor" collet collier to create a wonderful necklace. Victoria could put it to good use, the opal and diamond elements would match well with the large opal brooch she wore last year.

The opal pendants would also suit the "Queen Maud diamond tiara" in Norway perfectly. But they hate classical jewellery, so would never buy.

Love this idea! Opals are "difficult" stones but IA's brunette hair definitely can let them shine.

Maybe the opals could be a second set of toppers for the Leuchtenberg Sapphire, just similar to the original pearl version on Queen Josephine.

You scared me there for a moment 😂 I know the Swedish Royal Court operates on a small budget at the moment, but i thought now they have gone totally mad if they are auctioning off the Leuchtenberg Sapphires 😂🤣

Luckily i saw two second later that it was the Tiara-mania website and not Sotheby’s 🥵😅

And i agree that opals would have been a lovely secondary option…. Unfortunately the sapphire stones can no longer be taken out of the tiara

Great ideas!

Another thought would be for Queen Aziza of Malaysia to buy it for the Lozenge Tiara, that may well have been Queen Mary's Lozenge Tiara (see conversation on the Princess Margaret jewellery thread)

Queen Mathide or her 2 daughters always come to mind when I see these auctions!

I hope that both Mathilde and Mary focus more on necklace preferably those which can be converted to tiaras more than earrings and brooches!

Mathilde to her credit seems to be doing her very best to restore the empty Belgian jewel chest after many years of neglect.
Yes indeed and I appreciate her for that but now am just hoping for more necklaces/tiaras.

If she keeps going for brooches at this base in 30 years could compete which the British brooches collection 😅

Yes Mathilde seems to building up a majestic brooch collection!

My guess is she is going for brooches is that they are usually not so expensive. But to come to compete with the british collection it would take 50+ years as thy have several hundreds and she has now bought 4 or 5

Also the price is very reasonable for a necklace/tiara and earrings

Great find. I don't think it works well as a tiara with contemporary hair styles, but it works as a necklace. And perhaps, it could be altered to work as a tiara by reducing its overall height.

No need to pass the link to our Royal House. All the Royal Auction Houses are sending their items to sell to the Royals before the list us published. Queens Mathilde and Mary bought jewels before the bids are starting.

That was my same thought but just by spacing the two branches away a little bit and lowering them it would look perfect, it would take a jeweler less than an hour to do so!

But I think they do publish the pieces in their catalogs even if the royals showed interest in those pieces as those purchased by Mathilde and Mary were already published in the catalogs before they did purchase them!

I agree about the tiara and how it would look great with just minor adjustments! I think Queen Mary could use Sapphire suite with a tiara and earrings, etc. I know that QMII has the sapphire necklace, earrings, etc. but I am not sure if those are part of the trust or her personal property.

Queen Margarethe's sapphire demi-parure is owned privately by her.
