Plenty of opportunity to see the the Regent Couple in the national costume, which both of them - fortunately - can wear.

True. Also, that is quite a packed program for them. I am sure the royal yacht arriving will, as usual, be quite the impressive scene! I love that the DRF has a royal yacht and still uses it!

Absolutely, Dannebrog in Faerose waters is a photographers wet dream come true.

Frederik and Mary arrived to the Faroe Islands today, ahead of the start of the visit tomorrow.

The Dannebrog was already at Føroyar a few days earlier.

Josephine has joined them!

Today, King Frederik X and Queen Mary will arrive on the Royal Ship Dannebrog in the capital of the Faroe Islands, Tórshavn.

On this occasion, the King and Queen, as is tradition for official visits, will wear the national costume of the Faroe Islands.

So many wonderful photos already. Frederik and Mary looked fantastic in the traditional outfits given by the Faroe Islands government. They rock them!

I'm sure the islanders appreciate that Josephine went along on her own free will, because she wanted to and not because she is "encouraged" or as a part of the royal road show. That makes quite a big difference.
I hope, and my guess is that so do the islanders, that she will take part in many more events.

The light up there in north Atlantic is special. And it is such a light that Dannebrog really looks her best. She's a beautiful contrast to the grey sea, sky and rocks and the green meadows.
And the Regent Couple look smashing in their national costumes.

Some have asked why Josephine is not wearing a national costume. Well, the last time she wore a Faroese costume she was seven years old, she has probably outgrown it by now... - But let us see if she doesn't get a new one in appreciation of her visit. It takes about a year to make a national costume, I'm told.

And I’m sure as the parents of four, including a set of twins, Mary and Frederik appreciate when they get the opportunity to spend time with one of the children by him or herself. Kids can show different aspects of their personalities when they’re on their own, compared to when they’re with their siblings.

I agree 100%. It's important. Especially with twins, and in the teenage stage.

More Day 2

Queen Mary could not resist the in ground trampolin!

The weather was pretty rough during the night when Danneborg sailed from Torshavn to Soudoroy ( = Southern Island), but it didn't affect Queen Mary. She says she never gets seasick. And King Frederik has sailed in the North Atlantic on a patrol frigate, so he's also used to rough seas.

This is a shorter version of a Faeroese chain-dance.
It's almost hypnotic. Each song consists of about 7.574 verses, and all of a sudden a dull Tuesday is over...
Kidding aside, the video, which is 6 years old, offers a great opportunity to study the details in the national costumes.

Wonderful photos from Queen Mary's visit to the school! The Free of Bullying program is a great success and keeps expanding! This is how you use a foundation to make a true impact on kids and their development!

All the photos and videos have been fantastic so far!

Throughout the day, King Frederik X and Queen Mary and Princess Josephine visited several places on Suøuroy, which is the southernmost island of the Faroe Islands.
The King and Queen and Princess Josephine visited the town of Vágur, the village of Fámjin and Tvøroyri.

There have been many tender moments between the Regent Couple (and of course Josephine) so far. Something you tend to only display when you feel at ease. So, based on that I suspect the general mood and interaction between the Regent Couple and the islanders have been very warm and friendly.

It has been lovely to see all the interactions during the events. I agree, the royal couple seems very relaxed and chill. They are clearly enjoying themselves meeting everyone and engaging all the locals. It is the same when they are in Greenland. The formality is pretty much not there and it is just a joyful experience with everyone.

The final day of the wonderful visit has come.

Another live-blog to follow today:

What a sweet moment! King Frederik and Queen Mary were doing a walk-a-about when a cute little girl handed the King a small flower. The King proceeded to attach the flower to the lapel of his uniform. In the last photo here, you can see a close up of the flower, which turns out to coincidentally be a little daisy. Cute!!

Yes, the Australian flag is always a nice touch which I feel they both appreciate.

Lots of videos and photos

I'll point out that Frederik changed uniforms. From gala to formal (not sure i got the names right).
He did indeed. He changed from full dress to dress uniform. The gala uniform is the one he wears say at the Grand New Year Court.

That link you posted is a goldmine! The coverage is very detailed indeed. And fortunately I can understand the the gist of written Faeroese.

There is this sweet video of the flowergirl. According to the headline she was to greet Queen with a mix of an Australian and Danish greeting: G'day og velkommen ( I think you can guess what velkommen means.) However listening to the girl it sounded more like she intended to say: Goddag og velkommen, which is a wholly Danish formal greeting.

We need to go into details about that. As I think we all know, a very common Australian greeting is G'day. Derived from good day of course.
In Danish Goddag (good day) is usually a formal greeting or at least a more polite greeting. It becomes informal/semi-informal by saying G'dag, or 'dag (depending what time of day it is.) The same applies to Good Evening = Godaften = 'aften. Good Morning = Godmorgen = 'morn/'morgen. Good Night = Godnat = 'nat.
We have quite a few informal greetings in Danish, not to mention those we also have in dialects, but the absolute most common is: Hej = Hi. And pronounced in almost the same way.
So greeting-wise Queen Mary would have felt quite a home, when she first arrived.

Beautiful pictures, the visit looks like a great success, and all looking so relaxed and happy.
Plus an incredibly beautiful, spectacular landscape! First time for me to learn something about those islands.

Is there an English translation of the speeches anywhere?
