Introductory/State Visits to Sweden, Norway, Faroe Islands, Greenland, Germany, Japan: 2024, 2025

I hope the German president visit Denmark, something that don't happens since 2002, when Johannes Rau visited the country, or am I wrong, please?

I remember when the embassy complex was opened 25 years ago.
Of course there were a lot of embassies, consulates, ministries and what not moving from Bonn to Berlin after the Reunification. Many former East German ministries and similar buildings simply weren't big enough.
In all that the Scandinavian countries decided: Let's be practical. We'll build a whole complex that would serve as both embassy but also a culture/show-case for Scandinavia - and share the costs.

It's hard to believe 1999 was 25 years ago 😯 wow.
This just makes sense, an embassy for all Scandinavian. Efficient and the collaborations can be great.

"In 1999, King Frederik's mother, Queen Margrethe, inaugurated the same embassy complex.
- Separately and yet together, said the Queen at the inauguration in Berlin."

More on the visit,
"It is huge news. The Danish minority has always had a close bond with the Royal Family, and we remember with great pleasure when HM Queen Margrethe II visited us in 2019. We are very much looking forward to the fact that we will now have the opportunity to meet the Royal Couple and that we can show them how the Danish-minded in South Schleswig hold fast to and cultivate Danish language, culture and identity here in the region where it has historically always belonged. The visit will undoubtedly strengthen the bond between us and Denmark", says SSF chairman Gitte Hougaard-Werner.

I thought it was the Nordic countries who got together, not just the Scandinavian?

Yes, the Nordic countries. Therefore the Presidents of Iceland and Finland will also attend the 25th jubilee of the Nordic embassy complex.

As usual, jampacked two days of events for their majesties. I know they're calling it an ascension visit
..seems like mostly a quasi official visit. Looking forward to seeing them in Germany again. Wonder if we will see Frederik give parts of any speech in German like he's done before!

The gala tonight!

King Frederik has delivered his speech in German
"BT was in the hall when King Frederik gave a speech in German.
From here, the assessment is that it went quite well.
The king seemed reasonably familiar with the German language, and several times he made the audience laugh. "

"King Frederik spoke both about his childhood memories in Germany, the fall of the Berlin Wall and about the song 99 Luftballons.
A German connoisseur among the press says that it was a really nice speech and well delivered in German. "

Love the photo of the entire group! Billed Bladet has stated they had not joined for a group photo - seems they just took the photo inside instead of outside.

love these! Thanks for posting these. They look fantastic!

Yep, his speech was in German. and as before he was praised for his German by the German press.
Always helps to be multilingual.
Would German be his 4th language? Danish, French and English the first 3?

That's great! Lovely to hear. I would think it might be his fourth learned. The photos/videos of the dinner are great! Love seeing all the Nordic Heads of State/Heirs together at an event like this! It appears to have been a great first day of the official visit! Oh and I loved seeing Gustav and Carina there as well!!

As a german I can testify that his german is very good. I don´t know, of course, if he could follow a discussion, but delivering a speech from a note, as a foreigner, was no problem for him.

It's nice to hear Frederik's German is good. Considering his first cousin Gustav of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg who I believe he is close with is German, Frederik must have had plenty of opportunity to use his German over the years. In fact Prince Gustav and his wife Carina were present in Berlin for the Nordic Embassy events.

Not sure this is the case.... Normally, when the Sayn-Wittgensteins are invited for some danish festivities, they speak english!

I wondered if they used English, it makes sense. Although, I was thinking more when Frederik spent time in Germany, when he was much younger and also during the annual hunts in Germany that Frederik attends. I personally marvel at those with the ability to speak more than one language, i.e. a polyglot.

Alexander Stubb, the President of Finland, told today at his press conference in Germany that he and his wife, Victoria and Daniel, Haakon and Mette-Marit and the Presidential couple of Iceland went yesterday evening after the Federal President's dinner to Frederik and Mary's hotel and had an afterparty there.

He did get some good feedback on his speech last night.
Day 2 has been wonderful! Mary looks gorgeous, the crowd was happy to see them both.

It's nice to see that the Royal Run was also mentioned during this visit. To say that it has been a hit would be an understatement!
"A final question to the King was:
- Will the Royal Run come to the Danish minority?
To which the reply from King Frederik sounded laughing:
- You are not the first to ask about it. It was also talked about up here. But yes, next year you have to drive to Ribe, he replied. "

from last night
Day 2, focusing on the energy sector

Love hearing that! I love the closeness not only of the Scandinavian royals but of the Nordic countries as a whole. Hope they had a great time. Having these connections is so important and the continental royals have always fostered these relationships on not just a diplomatic level but on a friendship and familial level as well! Bodies well for the future of these monarchies and royal families imo.

That is great to hear. The President of Finland had just finished their state visit to Norway, and The President of Iceland their state visit to Denmark earlier. May the friendship and relationships continue!

What a great reception they have received
"BT asks King Frederik what he says about today's great reception.
- I am very honored. I think it's great to see so many Danish flags and children and adults who speak a little Danish down here, says the King."

and of course an Australian Flag is always present.
https://content.invisioncic.com/r38...80.jpeg.8e4d30008937678f29e273c51970faba.jpeg

What a great comment from the King! Yes, from the photos, lots of Danish flags, happy people waiting to meet them! It seems they spent alot of time meeting and shaking with people, especially Queen Mary - she always takes time shaking hand and making eye contact with as many people as possible, almost forgetting they are on a schedule. I think King Frederik had to at one point remind her of that!

And love seeing the Australian Flag. I love that the public still acknowledge her background and where she comes from after more than two decades in Denmark! I think Australia still consider her theirs...their Mary as I've heard many say - like they have their own personal connection to royalty! :):daneflag2::ausflag2:

Indeed, Queen Mary is very much still considered the foremost ambassador for Australia in DK, even though we very much consider her one of us.
It is of course also the old idea of the DRF always marrying foreigners, forging ties between countries. Nice to see that it can work today as well.

King Frederik and Queen Mary has been universally praised in the DK press for their conduct and regal behavior as well as focusing so much on the DK minority in Germany. King Frederik in particular has been praised for speaking German. As the traders of second-hand horses we Danes basically are as a people, we know perfectly well what difference such a little detail matters in regards to PR and ultimately trade and commerce. Every little trick to get ahead of the competition matters.
Such praise is not common here! Usually segments of the press and experts can always find something, however trivial, to criticize - and that is probably a good thing, overall, it keeps the DRF on their toes.

King Frederik does indeed speak fluent German. I don't know to what level though. But certainly enough to have at least a not to advanced conversation. But his generation was taught German at school and basically being bi-lingual, perhaps rather tri-lingual if you count English, would certainly have helped.
Apart from Danish, English, French and German it is almost certain that he would know some Swedish, Norwegian and Greenlandic as well. Perhaps even some Russian, because he did study and teach about the security situation in the Baltic countries back in the 90s.

So from a Danish perspective this visit has been a success.

It may not have been headline in Germany, at all, but one drop at a time and eventually you end up with a full bucket.

Another article on Frederik's German recently.

Always a great skill to have

"
Royal encounter with the Danish minority!
The royal couple were on a special visit to the Danish minority in South Schleswig.
Ten different clubs had the honor to introduce themselves and showcase their unique work. The Danish minority plays a central role as a vivid symbol of the friendship between Denmark and Germany.
Among other things, they also visited Danevirke wo S. M King Frederik sets the first footprint for the new Danevirke Museum. The historic Danish wall plant "Danewerk" is a unique symbol of Danish history and identity, and this museum will be preserved and made accessible to future generations. The new Museum is supposed to acknowledge the importance of this historic border fortification and further strengthen the cultural connection between Denmark and Germany."

It is! People sometimes forget, IMO, that King Frederik is fluent in 4 languages. I believe that all of the continental royals (including the younger generation) speak at least 2 languages. Thanks for posting the article.
